Actually this would take you quite a while when you consider that the decay on the 8a is significantly better due to the (L) status. Unless something has changed when the VU changed armor decay.

Don't forget that if you buy a 5B set you still have the plates to sell later and get your money back (if not more). With the 8A(L) plates they are gone once they fully decay.
