LOL This VU is just like the PhysX VU..... But different....
Here's something to mull over in your heads.... Can you imagine what it will be like when there are 4 Planets and a VU like this hits? Especially one with deposit issues?
Well considering that the planets will all be developing their own content, I suppose they will have their own VUs, independent of Calypso... or at least I hope so. The planets will all be on different servers anyway... right?
In any case, this latest VU is just following in the long-standing tradition of its predecessors. When VU day comes, there are always some problems and bugs that appear. This seems like a huge mess at first, but MA has always been quite quick to fix things and usually everything (mostly) is up and running normally in a few days. I usually wait a couple of days after VU to play again. I do try to log in as soon as the VU is up, but after a quick look around I usually take a break until everything is fixed.
This VU was mainly a "back-end" (no pun intended
) update as stated in the content list. It is not surprising to me that there have been a few problems when you consider that it is not just a matter of adding mobs, new textures, or some Christmas trees.

This was a major infrastructure/architecture upgrade for the entire Entropia Universe platform and one of the final pieces before the realization of multi-planetary virtual universe.
I can't imagine the amount of work that it takes to implement the new graphics engine and build the infrastructure to allow our universe to expand to encompass more planets. With all the complaining about this VU, we should not forget the people at MA that are working hard to take EU to a new level, not just a small adjustment of the current state, but a whole new one. I'm sure they are just as eager to see the new EU up and running as we are.
No one can guarantee a problem free VU, no matter what method you use to test, including all the well meant suggestions over the years about how the community thinks VUs should be handled.
There will be more VUs and more bugs and more problems, but at the end of the day it is important to remember that there are two roads to the future to choose from. The first road is dark, paved in cobblestone and full of holes and obstacles the second is well lit and paved smoothly and evenly.
The second road would be the easiest to follow, keep the universe going with little effort, find a stable build and let it run its course. I would personally prefer the first road.
I tip my hat to the developers, programmers, designers, the guy that keeps their coffee mugs full (Marco?
), and all the other people who work at MindArk. Thanks for doing a great job!
Cheers
