EU marriage and babies!

Interesting ... funny that I never got that impression from you from our chats or communication. Also (IMO), anyone with this type of mindset has either had bad relationship experiences, or is engaging in some stereotypical thinking. Successful relationships require mutual respect and effective (open) communication, and sadly, both are pretty much missing in today's society. I know, it's a bit more complicated than that because of all the variables that come into play, but then you have to ask yourself ... are you doing your part, or just blaming your partner when things don't go your way? :dunno:

OR...
Some people just don't want to be in a relationship and have kids?
:naughty:

hmmm...

George, I think you should seriously send your resume to all the planet partners in need of a good storyline writer! :) ;)

Imagine Babyland... It's Calypso with even more candycane weapons and stuff. A true Candyland. Maybe the Wily Wonka Chocolate Factory takes on the role of the evil cathedral there or something?

How about a new pvp zone called "Divorce Court" where participants battle over who gets to take what assets over that they both used to jointly have custody over or own.

i think EU marriage is a great idea, in some games i´ve played have already marriage system were avatars win some extra skills and can TP themselves next to each other. isnt love great? or is it convenience ... still... a good idea except for the baby part, id prefer the extra skill and TPs

This is true :D ... people find their fun and pleasures in many ways, and it doesn't always require a relationship.

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh: ... 5-star laugh ... now that would be a rather interesting spectator sport. :D

So.. you're gonna use the baby as storage or as a trader? :D.

Concerning unions and babies, i vote for RL ;).

I bet the decay will be horrible on those baby avatars... especially when they start wanting to take your car out...

Actually I was poking fun at the stereotypical thinking. :D Foxypilot got that one...thanks for the +rep!

Well ... that just goes to prove the theory about how we only communicate (according to research) 7% with words , 38% with tone of voice, and 55% with body language ... and ... leaves the written word open to subjective interpretation, which is totally understandable, but ... since I'm actually (and currently) on Skype with you chatting about this, it's a full-on chuckle.

We often tend to skimp out on words to clarify when typing too since it requires, well, more typing. Then look at me, all I did was make myself have to type more! LOL

As for marriage in EU...why not if people would be into it. I`m all for as immersive experience as we can get. Though I was never keen on the idea of having to eat in EU. Sounds about as much fun as waiting for ones healthbar to come back to full.

good question perhaps more drama and arguments:)

I think it's a human need to socialise this is one form of socialising ...

Sitting infront of a computer with a bag of cheetos hanging out with your virtual wife and annoying virtual baby is hardly socializing. Getting away from EU and actually meeting someone in Rl is socializing. Stuff like this takes the "fun" out of gaming.

Exactly ... thanks for the chat, it was fun as always my friend. :)

When people make a post on EF about marriage, the next word I think about is: Half!!! :D

I have a buddy who play's another game an they allow player's to get married with a big wedding party.

nice idea for some players with out no life xD...JK..i think if that thing add to this game it would be same to play sims..personally i would not add it ..

mmmm and same sex marriages? would it be allowed and if so, can they adopt a baby? but if they can adopt a baby that would mean the not same sex marriages could have more than one baby

That's why i said 2 avatars ;)

Also depending on how far people are willing to go, could have marriages involving multiple partners! What may be unacceptable in real life may not be the case in virtual life. That's not to say that i personally condone multiple just wondering if something like that could work in virtual life.

Also raises interesting situations say a husband and wife play this game and have avatars based on the opposite sex e.g. male has female avatar and female a male avatar. I wonder if that would help them understand each other better in real life? not sure as this is so different from real life then again some things stay the same and peoples ideas and opinions translate equally well to virtual life and vice versa maybe ?

I read it carefully, but still...

I think you just want access to cheap 3D porn :D

Lol.
Sure, let's have babies run around and the rest of us are gonna shoot them up with out weapons :p

I don't think it would be a horrible idea to have more festival related items in game...

If people wanted to have a wedding, a birthday party, a christmas party, a black mass, etc...

Sure, why not:)

I would, however, really be opposed to any kind of official marriage function in EU... especially if it affected gameplay...

One of the reasons I like EU is that it's quite easy to avoid BS interpersonal drama, and for the most part people act more mature than in other games,

adding something so conducive to sexual undertones would really ruin this. Not to mention if there was any competitive advantage, It would essentially become mandatory.

That makes it quite interesting then why we MEN yes MEN have come up with about 96000 words we hardly ever use for any functional stuff.. other than trying to hook a woman lol :p And yes it's true, there is roughly 96000 words we dont use in normal day to day speech ie work etc but they are purely made to lure a woman in :p

The study Ms9 was referring to has been recognised to be flawed. Everyone refers to that study but are not usually aware it was made on singles looking for an opposite partner. I'm sure if such a study was made under "normal" circumstances the figures wouldn't be so acute

Edit:my mistake what ms9 refers to is probably albert mehrabians research http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-verbal_communication. However it's still flawed. Surprisingly i didn't find any refernces to modern research in this area that may cover the subject in a more universal manner.

Yes ... you guys are a crafty lot! ;) Oh, but here's the kicker ... we are counter crafty in letting you think you lured us, when it is WE who know how to lure ... you guys are just too weak when it comes to women  ... but we love ya anyway ... and the benefits are nice. ;)

Sorry if already posted. Creative thinking but I have a dim recolection we discussed this one at length before. I think it suffers from the old too little benefit for too much effort issue.

Still always fun to talk of ideas and their effects

Hmmm ... I gave the link to Albert's research, and I know exactly what it's about, but ... allow me to put this into perspective if you will. Let's just drop the percentages and consider each of the components ... printed word, tone of voice, and body language.

First ... when we communicate with words only, there's a higher risk that the recipient may misinterpret what we meant ... it happens at this forum all the time, but ... it doesn't mean that something in print without benefit of tone of voice or body language can't properly convey a message. Perhaps we've all had the experience at one time or another either here or in emails, or instant messages, or even texts where someone totally misunderstood us because of our word choices.

Second ... when you add tone of voice into the mix, like on the phone or in internet voice chat, the recipient of your communication now has the added benefit of your voice inflection, and the percentage of success in your communication increases.

Third ... now add body language which can tell a story in and of itself, and you have an even greater level of potential success in your communications.

Bottom-line ... whatever percentages you want to use, whether it's 7/38/55, or whatever ... interpretation is subjective, and with each added component, you will have a higher degree of success that your message is more clear. That's not to say that you can't get your message across in print ... writers do it all the time ... and some people just have a brilliant way with words that paint a canvas so clearly, you don't need anything else. :D

Besides ... not sure the marriage or baby thing would work well in EU because men and women are totally hardwired differently ... see for yourself. :silly2:

*Definitely plays to stereotypical thinking!*

Edit:

I JUST had to ... remember THIS ONE Legion? If we end up with marriages in EU, we just may get more than we bargained for.

I don't think those diagrams are accurate. Personally i suspect the female brain thinks more about sex than the male brain. In a lot of ways male and female brains are not too dissimilar.

However, there are many urban myths about. Like the one about a man thinks about sex i dunno million times a day or something. If a man thought about sex every second he would go insane and would be inable to function in real life.

I think these old misconceptions arose in the past from how men and women were "expected" to behave.

My dear friend ... those diagrams are for fun, and speak to ways in which we might stereotype gender. Interesting thing is ... I draw a blank diagram of a male and female brain on the board for my students, who range in age from 18 and into the 60's, and have the girls go first and give me some stereotypical thinking about men, and then have the men go next.

I find ... that what they throw out there is absolutely not far from what you see in those diagrams I posted, and many exactly what you see, but ... what I find more interesting is the perspective of the different age groups and how we perpetuate certain aspects of male/female socializing from one generation to the next.

I do agree though ... that some research can be faulty based on the criteria used, however, the brains of men and women are absolutely physiologically different, and plays very much into our biological behavior. There's an evolutionary process in play here as well that lends credence to certain and specific gender behaviors. Our collective unconscious houses evolutionary imprints that speak to us as inheritors of our prehistoric legacy, and as such, a predisposition to behave in ways that promote survival and reproduction. I don't think that's what we think about when we're getting it on though. However, we still have expectations with regard to how men and women behave, and it's not as antiquated or outdated as you think it is. ;)

Thing is (and according to research) ... it seems that women have a more relational approach to sex, while men have a more recreational approach. However ... the principle seems to be that the natural selection process incorporates behaviors that increase the likelihood of extending our genes into the future, and that we (both males and females) are similarly predisposed to act in ways of our ancestors in order to carry on the legacy. Again, I'm sure it's not what we think of when we're getting it on. :D

Back on-topic ... I don't think EU needs to go the way of full-on family, but perhaps something that might speak to couples and their growth together within our universe, don't know. I doubt MA would consider creating baby avatars, it just doesn't fit as far as I'm concerned. This is an adult colony (role-playing here) ... select people from Earth chosen to develop a planet ... it's an adult playground, and I would venture to think that perhaps most would like it that way better. It's anyone's guess, but I think you have something to work with here, including the many additional suggestions that people have posted. It might bring a nice addition to game-play for couples.

Hehe totally true, but it's also you women who has made us men into what we are today. In a as you mention in the post after this as i dont quote evolution plays a part. The thing here is that you women know what you look for in a man, and if we dont have that you wont let us stick our thing into your thing so no new puppies will be made so to speak. Not until you found what you want. This then leads to that more of that type get's produced, ie more nice words etc etc.. What i DONT get though is WHY you ladies seem to have breed us men into being arses who treat you ladies like shit?!?!? Or atleast a whole lot of us, atleast if you go by my girl friends boyfrineds and exes. I'd have to say about 90% of them all are a bunch of retards who dont know how to treat a woman :p

So...
1. You made us speak a lot of meaningless words
2. you made more of guys who misstreat you.
3. You girls cant be very smart

Yes last one was a JOKE!!! i guess i had to type that cause someone would missunderstand it :p
