Write an EU Tutorial and win 50,000 EFDs!

EntropiaForum is looking for some talented tutorial writers to update and expand the tutorial section. These new tutorials will be a great way for all of us at EntropiaForum to welcome and assist newcomers to learn about our wonderful universe, and hopefully not get discouraged or overwhelmed in the early stages.

Once the submission period closes, the EF community will vote for the best tutorial in each category, and the winning authors will each receive 50,000 EFDs, along with the respect and appreciation of the EF and EU communities.

Tutorial Categories

  • General Interface: Movement, Controls & Keyboard Mapping Guide
  • Sweating: Crash course in animal sweating
  • Teleport Running: Best way for a new player to get all the TPs.
  • Hunting: Basic guide for new hunters: melee and ranged weapons, armors, FAPs, amps and attachments, basic strategies, etc.
  • Mining: Equipment
  • Crafting: Basic introduction to crafting and tailoring.
  • Beauty: Hairstyling & body sculpting for both buyers and sellers.
  • Trade: Auction, shopping, avatar trades, etc.
  • Estates: Apartments, shops, shopkeepers, decorating, landareas, houses
  • Mindforce: Equipment, mind essence, implants, mindforce chips and skills
  • Taming: Equipment, skills, tactics, pet tricks and interaction

Rules
A temporary subforum will be created for the submissions. All entries must be submitted by January 7th, 2007.

Polls will then be created for each category, and the EF community will choose the winning tutorials. These polls will be open for voting for 5 days, and the winners will be announced on January 16th 2007. The winning tutuorials will then be featured in various areas of EntropiaForum, including a revamped Tutorials section.

Tutorial submissions should be as clear as possible; remember that these guides are intended for newcomers to EU, so do not assume that your readers will know much about the EU interfaces or have specialized knowledge of the EntropiaUniverse. All efforts should be made to check your submissions for proper grammar and spelling. Tutorials should be written in English.

All tutorials are expected to include screenshots to help readers quickly learn how to navigate and perform basic actions in EU.

Notes and Tips
Please take a look at the existing guides for inspiration on the type of tutorials we have in mind:

Mining Guide
Crafting Guide
Hunting Guide
Professions Guide

Tips for inserting images and wrapping text:

When making your tutorial, a very useful tool is the WRAP code, it allows you to place an image in one corner with text right next to it, like this:

[wrap=left]https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/images/newspics/dung2.jpg[/wrap]This text is placed right next to the image bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla

Here is the BB Code example:

[wrap=left]https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/images/newspics/dung2.jpg[/wrap]bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla

BB Code FAQ
Then there all the other normal BB codes, such as align, size, color, etc.

Best of luck to all who enter!!

:yay:

Cool idea 711 :)

Does anyone want to bet against resident tutorial writer Alice taking all 450,000 EFD? :D

cool idea you just need to add a section:

It's very important to understand Item Types, Unlimted, Limited, and Stackable/Consumables

This would fit very well under the Hunting Tutorial in my opinion, since most of the L items relate to hunting (with the exception of mining amps, of course).

rather then learn the BB code. can we write the tutorial in pure HTM?

I just took a class on html :) and can do some cool stuff with it

For security reasons, HTML is disabled in posts on EF. Allowing HTML on a public forum is a major security risk, sorry.

so this wont work i assume?

Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
    alert("Hello world!");
//-->
</script>

and

HTML:
<img src="image.gif" alt="image" />
<a href="testing.html" target="_blank">Testing</a>

Nope. Too easy for people to insert malicious javascripts or XSS exploits.

where's the sub forum so i can post my Mining guide?

is it allowed for me to copy and paste ? :rolleyes:

Alice, the point of this contest is to update the old tutorials to incorporate all the major changes that have been made to the EU interface and such the last 3 or 4 VUs.

You can certainly choose to update any previous guides or tutorials for this competition. After all, it will be the EF community who will vote for the winning tutorials.

errr, yes
and i guess in my guide i explained it quite oki, thats why i ask
but the guide is already existing, just not here :)
if i am allowed to copy and paste it (from my guide of course :rolleyes: ) and take the pics of it, i could participate, else i won't
i spent enough time with writing 89 pages, no need to start from 0 again ;)

All tutorials must be written in English. You are free to link to a french version you may have on another website, however.

I didnt see anything about existing guides (rather than tutorials) like my Beacon Mission guide and How to make Ped guide..

Are these still going to exisit as i assume they wont be covered by the above topics... (e.g. all the stuff in the old sticky thread)

Or, should I submit those (with revisions as neccesary)? Maybe a Misc guides catagory for stuff like this with lesser EFD bonus as these sort of guides tend not to be as detailed as full tutorials...?

I would second that idea. I am going to be writing a guide to event creation, which doesn't appear to fit into the existing categories. But as I decided to write the guide before this competition was announced, I won't mind if there is no reward of EFD. ;)

Question. Am I able to use my existing taming tutorial to enter the contest?

ERM, stupid question. Didn't read full thread. Ignore lol.... ITS LATE! rofl

I think after this competition ends, and the major tutorials have been selected, we can run another competition for more specific guides, such as for the things you mention. This will help fill in the gaps.

Yay! That gives me time to collect more information for my guide. :D
I wonder if I can +rep the boss? :laugh:

If i actually get around to writing it in time, you are more than welcome to take what ever you want from it, or copy the whole thing :0)

Just make sure you include my address so everyone knows where to call! :D

hope you didnt use it while writing the tutorial :smoke:

I know mine are old now (at www.pementor.co.uk/index.htm) but if any of you want to use the pictures or info from there to update it please feel free.

As I think there is allot of existing stuff that just needs updating (not just my attempts) as a wise man once said there is no need to recreate the wheel just modify the existing one.

I would love to have a go at one of these sections so if I get the time I will see if I can put one together. Failing that good luck to everyone else who enters I am sure they will make great additions to what is an already noob friendly website.
