It doesn´t matter who is compiling the list, untill we the older players with better knowledge about comunity and EU history give the needed information.

Imho, most of the real famous EU participants are already mentioned in this thread, only thing OP has to do is reading all the posts and update the list.

Few names that came up without thinking long about it;

Dan Dan Petrov - Insane skills
Joda VVV MG - Insane skills
Auktuma - one of the best crafters ingame and did great things like giveaways and such
Buzz Erik Lightyear - one of the best crafters ingame, owner of CP
Jenna Star Mercury - Insane skills, maybe the "best" hunter in EU
Neverdie - first buyer of CND, did a lot of promotion for the game
Deathifier - owner of TI
Alice - best and most "famous" mentor
McCormick - made great and very funny videos
Paris Dub Hilton - Ruga....

Nostrop & HunterZ - famous for obvious reason

Sooo many names though the next ones didn't have that great impact as the above ones (imo)

Skam, Skalman, Stryker, Starman, Skippie, Blackhawk, Lykke, YourMom, Neomaven, Akoz (Qetesh), Squall .... just too much.....

The Nukems got banned for their scam plain and simple. They do not play the game anymore because they have "interests" elsewhere..that was their reply when asked via pm (excluding the ban part of course ;))

People are famous when you meet them or know them,
saddly the player's hall of fame is composed of a lot of people who left the game.

Morbaax (who was clearly the most skilled player in mindforce at his time)

I see this trend too. It's natural in any MMO to have this happen, and one can hope we see some of these folks back in the future.

Perhaps we should split the list:

All time Famous People and Currently Active Famous Players.

If you need a reason, then that guy - or any other guy - does not deserve to be on the list. If is famous, most people know. If is not... who cares.

Like someone said before many of the old timers do play as much, but they had a huge influence on the next generation. It like in anything take football (soccer) for exsample if you was around in the eighties they would have heros that every one new, but twenty years later the people who watch it now willl not know them. I have only been playing since Feb this year so many names from the last few post i have never heard of, but that dose not make them any less famous, becuase most players who have been playing two years have. This is why i think a old school player would be better at doing this list.
