Yeah, I've not heard of anyone being hacked with a GC in the couple of years I've been around here either (dropping the darn thing in front of the PC next to the reader with a big card stating password and login details does not quite count as my definition of 'hacked' ).

A future competition that takes into account years/months of GC membership.

Like a bit of a ty for all the n00b's that bought-in and promoted it.

Something 'tier'-related rather than PED/deposit/skill.

Something that would streach MA's minds.

...like how to cram a cheeseburger into their mouths in one go

They don't have any purpose right now. I assume the manufacturer included them for advanced programming purposes, but MA went with just the basic model.

If you press the top one while your card is inserted your garage door opens; if you press the bottom one, your stereo starts.

If you press them both at once, the person next you gets a HoF.

Very interesting this thread considering MA decided to offer the GC to people whit over 5k peds deposit.

I see it has a positive thing and a negative thing:

Positive;
Alot of good people that dedicate to EU got increased security, and I +rep (in a symbolic way ofc) MA for giving the GC free.

Negative;

If this is a way of MA help people and showing some interest in security for them and the players, ofc they (MA) will have my sincere thx and gratz for this, in a way sux for people that have GC cause they had to buy it, not me (been sacarstic again lol) cause I did got it long time ago so I really dont care about the 200ped but like mentioned here by some people, they bought the card few days ago for nothing, at least MA could advertise this in the Site before they do this and made the GC unavailable in the TT for some days.
In another way, I think I understand why they dindt did this. People that spent over 5k peds are people that enjoy EU and prob will keep playing for long time, when people that deposit very low amounts or dont even deposit at all, prob would not get that far and quit the game. So the GC has to be a option for some and a gift for others.

It would be nice to regard old and active players from time to time, that would keep the moral up and the ranks happy.
It could be something like the gifts in xmas and so on but maybe whit better cool and usefull stuff then a xmas gloves.

In the overall this action whit the GC is one of the rare ocasions that MA scored high among the player base. Oh and this is rare has a ATH over 50k peds lol.... (there i am been sacarstic again...)

Actually, this is what is really bugging me about it.

Everyone is speaking in PED.

It is $500...or £250.

Except it is more than that (allow for charges inputting credit) for an item worth (in-game) a fraction of that.

I do get the point of your post.

I think the people who paid their PED should be reimbursed.

But I paid...and I'm happy I did.

Hell...I got a cash-card sitting in my inventory waiting for activation if I 'really' need PED.

It's about securing people imho.

YES, that should be the responsibility of the game-developers; they have elected to be the recipients of our money.

But they havn't up to now...nor have they addressed scamming security properly.

You really don't understand. A gold card is not intended to fix MA's security but to fix a player's security instead. There is no system in the world that a company can design to ensure that your user name and password are not lost or stolen by a user's own poor security. Therefore, the gold card adds another layer of complexity that makes knowledge of a user name or password useless.

Your user name and password are not vulnerable at MA's servers, they are vulnerable by you typing them into your keyboard when you have a piece of spyware installed on your computer. You are responsible for your own computer's safety, not MA.

If you are going to vent, at least vent about something you know about.

If your Gold Card or Gold Card reader stops working you are entitled to a certain number of free replacements per year. However, you need to send off the inactive Gold Card or Gold Card reader to MindArk, after which they will send you the replacement. This means you will be locked out of Entropia for the time it takes for the replacement to arrive with you (unless you bought a spare reader from the TT in advance).

If you used up all your FREE replacements, then you either have to buy a replacement or ask MA to remove the gold card from your account. As removing the gold card from an account is the first thing that a hacker would try to do, you would have to prove to MA that you were the genuine owner of the account (this would mean sending them some form of ID).

However, gold cards and gold card readers do not fail very often. Some people have been unlucky enough to have one break after a few months, but most people that have commented on the subject say that their ones have lasted for at least a year (mine is about 14 months old, I think, and I have had no problems).

Last week I was standing outside CND bank in PA, and over heard an interesting conversation. Two people talking to one another.

One was reffering to loosing over 12k ped in items and assets. The other was consoling him. I had to pipe in, what someone keylogged you and got your account and all your stuff?

Yes was his response and then began to put down MA and how he had emailed etc etc and they hadn't responded in a timely manor etc. I intrupted him, they are not responsible for the security of your computer- just your account and if someone logs in using your info, that is secured- they needed your password. They got that from you off your machine not from "HACKING" MA... He continued to be trashy.

Did you have the GOLD card system? His response, no it cost 200 PED.

Well I responded with the amount of assets you claim to have 12k + properties etc etc, I would think 200 PED ($20.00 USD) is a drop in the garbage amount of money to secure 12k.

He agreed, looking at it on that level- don't learn a lesson the hard way~

I have the GOLD system- and I love it. And so does my Wife. Protect your self from KEYLOGGERS and HACKERS from atleast getting into your AVATAR,
get one and you won't be sorry....

MA is secured, the intergrity of your computer is only as secure as you know how to make it, if your an investor like myself- don't take the risk!!

Get a GOLD card, and I believe it is a free order after you have invested atleast $500 USD- I got mine for free this way...

there are indeed way to many threads with the "i got hacked" subject.
and ofcourse i do have sympathy for the peepz which do get hacked.
but in any way.. it was their decision to not spend a low ammount of peds to a gc.

and usually my answer to these topics is:

I cannot stress enough the importance of keeping your account secure, get a gold card, don't play on a user account with full (ie. Admin) access priveleges. Scan your computer for virii and spyware daily, and never ever use the same password for two different websites, or MMOs for that matter.

AVG Antivirus is a good free Antivirus and Spybot is good for well some spyware. Windows Defender is good for spyware, but with Microsofts aquisition of a known spyware company (Giant, iirc) its usefulness may be limited.

Honestly, I don't know why most MMOs don't already have this kind of thing, especially with all the hacking that goes on. I know that MMO with 11mil subs introduced a similar system recently, I just ordered one, as I was tired of getting hacked
