how to compare weapons..

hi all,

alot changed since weapon-selection was as easy as taking opalo + the biggest amp you could get..
the amp-nerf now allows only for adding max. 50% the gun's max-dmg.
and, (L)-weapons start to get into the system more and more.
so i decided, to write a new guide on ranged weapons...

please note: this post is not about Korss 400 vs FreanD Delta vs Mk2!!! it is about comparing guns ;) please also note, that i guessed the % of missed shots depending on HA on my own experience. you might have other guesses.. ;)

MOST IMPORTANT GUN CHARACTERISTICS:
power: how much dmg a gun deals in a given time (dmg/sec)
eco: how much it costs to do damage. more exactly, how much dmg does the gun inflict per 1 pec cost (dmg/pec)
HA: hit-ability: shows, how often you'll miss (imo: HA 1.0: ~25% misses, HA 10.0: <10% misses)
range: range, important for tagging mobs..


WHY AVARAGE DAMAGE?
when comparing weapons, compare them for YOU (your skills)!!! that means, don't take the max-dmg for calculation. take the arithmetic avarage between min-dmg and max-dmg. why? because the min-dmg is influenced by YOUR skills, and so the avarage-dmg will show you how much dmg/shot you ACTUALLY inflict.

example:
let's compare some guns: the FreanD Delta, the Korss H400 (L) and the good ol' Justifier Mk2:
i'll take my own skills for this example.

FreanD Delta:

power:
mindmg:12, maxdmg:44 -> avgdmg:28
28 dmg x 67 attacks / 60 -> 31.26 dmg/sec
my HA on it: 1.2 (~22% misses): 31.26 - 22% -> 24.38 dmg/sec

eco:
costs per shot: 7 pec ammo + 3.5 pec decay = 10.5 pec
28/10.5 = 2.66 dmg/pec
22% misses: -> 2.08 dmg/pec

Korss H400 (L):

power:
mindmg: 18.5, maxdmg:37 -> avgdmg: 27.75
27.75 dmg x 57 attacks / 60 -> 26.36 dmg/sec
my HA on it: 10.0 (~10% misses): 26.36 - 10% -> 23.74 dmg/sec

eco: (!!! this is a (L)-gun, so you have to multiply it's decay with the typical markup (200%)!!!)
costs per shot: 8 pec ammo + 0.92 pec x 200% markup decay = 9.84 pec
27.75/9.84 = 2.82 dmg/pec
10% misses: -> 2.53 dmg/pec

Justifier Mk2:

power:
mindmg:12.8, maxdmg:43 -> avgdmg:27.9
27.9 dmg x 40 attacks / 60 -> 18.6 dmg/sec
my HA on it: 2.3 (~16% misses): 18.6 - 16% -> 15.62 dmg/sec

eco:
costs per shot: 10 pec ammo + 0.46 pec decay = 10.46 pec
27.9/10.46 = 2.67 dmg/pec
16% misses: -> 2.24 dmg/pec

.. now let's mount some amps:

FreanD Delta + Fi/Ca/Ro Beast:

power:
mindmg:17.2, maxdmg:63 -> avgdmg:40.1
40.1 dmg x 67 attacks / 60 -> 44.77 dmg/sec
my HA on it: 1.2 (~22% misses): 44.77 - 22% -> 35.82 dmg/sec

eco:
costs per shot: 7 pec ammo gun + 2 pec ammo amp + 3.5 pec decay gun + 2.36 decay amp = 14.86 pec
40.1/14.86 = 2.70 dmg/pec
22% misses: -> 2.10 dmg/pec

Korss H400 (L) + Omegaton A105:

power:
mindmg: 26.5, maxdmg:53 -> avgdmg: 39.75
39.75 dmg x 57 attacks / 60 -> 37.76 dmg/sec
my HA on it: 10.0 (~10% misses): 37.76 - 10% -> 33.99 dmg/sec

eco: (!!! this is a (L)-gun, so you have to multiply it's decay with the typical markup (200%)!!!)
costs per shot: 8 pec ammo gun + 1 pec ammo amp + 0.92 pec x 200% markup decay gun + 2.74 pec decay amp = 13.58 pec
39.75/13.58 = 2.93 dmg/pec
10% misses: -> 2.63 dmg/pec

Justifier Mk2 + A105:

power:
mindmg:17.5, maxdmg:59 -> avgdmg:38.25
38.25 dmg x 40 attacks / 60 -> 25.5 dmg/sec
my HA on it: 2.3 (~16% misses): 25.5 - 16% -> 21.42 dmg/sec

eco:
costs per shot: 10 pec ammo gun + 1 pec ammo amp + 0.46 pec decay gun + 2.74 decay amp = 14.2 pec
38.25/14.2 = 2.69 dmg/pec
16% misses: -> 2.26 dmg/pec



conclusion:

even though the Delta seems to be much more powerful at the first glance, the Korss 400 (L) comes pretty close to it, if you take the HA-bonus and the min-dmg-bonus into calculation.
eco-wise the korss leaves the Delta far behind. (this is only true for my skills!!! with HA 6.0 and ~33% min-dmg, Delta would be about the same eco as Korss..)
Mounting amps brings the korss even more forward.
the Mk2 seems to be outdated, it will be tt-food soon i think..


..what else should you keep in mind?

(L)-guns: though (L)-guns often seem to be weak and unpracticable (not repairable), they often offer a very good eco, because of the HA 10.0 and 50% min-dmg. be aware that the last 3.5% of a (L)-weapon's tt-value CANNOT be used. this can bring 'effective' costs up when buying low-tt-ones!

amps: since VU8.7 amps can add max. 50% of the weapon's max-dmg. if you use a bigger amp, you will simply 'waste' its power. usually amps boost the eco of a gun. that means, the bigger the amp, the better the eco. amps have the same HA than the gun they are mounted on, so they work better with maxed guns. amps also are more powerful on fast-reload guns, as they can deliver their dmg more often.

markup: non-(L)-guns: if you plan to use the gun for a long time, markup is not relevant for eco-calculations (except very expensive guns)
(L)-guns: always multiply the gun-decay with the payed markup!

www.pe-wiki.info: here you can find most stats of most guns and items in game. but be careful: pe-wiki ALWAYS uses MAX-DMG for their calculations (which is useless, imo).
