If you never want to change armors then boar is still a nice choice.
Fortunately you can now create full armor sets in a single icon, which is far less of a hassle than the old "switch each part manually". switching armors is now a seamless affair and recently Mindark also deleted the much hated switch armor decay.
Also carried weight has been increased since a couple of vu's, so you can simply carry a couple of sets of armor and it doesn't matter much. For miners we can now simply take a shitload of vehicles and stash ores and enmatters in them, leaving them in the field, meaning we can pack more gear with us.
there's really no reason why you shouldn't pack a couple of specialised armours.
for close protection of cut/stab/impact there are now cheaper options, like the almost tt-food jarhead(c) which has 55 close protection vs the 51 the boar offers. the durability on jarhead isn't as good, but it simply offers more protection. And if you value your durability, get liakon which offers 60 close protection and has 3k durability for the same price as boar is valued today.
for bot protection (28 for boar) there are better choices, like mah'ketta (32 protection), or cheaper options like the current tt-fodder vigilante. If you're a mentor then you will have quite some hunter me parts which also offer more protection than boar, and you get those for free as a mentor gift.
for feffoids, tt-fodder like kobold or koroma work well with feffoids, or if you want to hunt bigger and want to have good imp/cut/stab + cold then liakon wins hands down from boar and costs about the same.
Finally the looks:
mah'ketta and koroma look very nice compared to the pale yellow boar.
to sum it up:
dirt cheap better protection: jarhead 55close vs 51 boar/mah'ketta 32 firearms vs 28 boar/kobold sga 13 cold vs 12 boar
a bit more punch for almost the same price: liakon 60 close vs 51 boar/ mah'ketta 32 firearms vs 28 boar/ liakon 31! cold vs 12 boar
if you want to wear only one armour then boar is still a very good all round armor. But if you create some armor sets for different mobs, then you can buy cheaper and be better protected in all areas.
So in my view boar is overrated due to all of the above and I wouldn't pay more than tt+250 per part ( because I can get jarhead for tt+100 and mah'ketta for tt+60 and kobold sga for tt+20 per part)
so full boar should be tt+1750
