Anyone creating a new community forum?

Let me know pls :)

Just out of curiosity 711, what are your plans for EF?

Rgds

Ace

I hope he's thinking about creating a fresh forum

If he does the PCF will have few users and will be very easy to maintain

I addressed the question of what will happen here on EntropiaForum.com in the opening post of this thread:

What becomes of EntropiaForum.com?
It should be made clear that FPC has not acquired the EntropiaForum.com website or domain name, only the forum database and content. Two to three weeks after the PCF transition, EntropiaForum.com will be relaunched as an entirely new EU community focused on all of the current, planned and future Planet Partners within EntropiaUniverse. Once relaunched, re-registration will be required to participate as a member of the newly refocused and redesigned EntropiaForum.com.

So if the ToU said, i must wake up at 5 m to pray to Neo, I would have to do it? Coz its written in the ToU?

You agreed to them.

How do you know? And who will choose new ones?

It has been mentioned in this thread.
And there are no new ones from what I've read (entire thread), just the current ones were asked if they want to Moderate PCF.

oooh can't we at least keep our old join date? :(

The forum is my responsibility, not theirs.

Hello Hanne
my loot is a shit since ever, 5 years just 800ped lysterium, can you pls tell me if you plan to re-built your loot system?????

Thx Hanne in advance for YOUR answer.

You have the ability to delete all of your private messages before the forum database is transferred to PCF.

Deleting the PMs will not remove the PM texts from the vB database... it will just mark them to "no longer list them in XXXs inbox/outbox" ;)

That is not true. Please do not spread inaccurate information that could potentially alarm members for no reason.

By default, vBulletin runs an hourly maintenance task which deletes any "orphaned" pmtext table entries that are no longer associated with PMs in a member's inbox.

I suppose you only looked at the section of code in the private.php file related to PM deletion, and were not aware of the code in the hourly ./includes/cron/cleanup2.php file. ;)

Since this forum is closing, can I have all you EDF 711? :wtg:

btw if you need any help in the new forum let me know

As long as the PMtext is used in a PM (means if the recipient is still having a copy in his inbox or you have a copy in your outbox) a PM is not considered "orphaned" and will therefor not be deleted, so simply clearing your PM box will not guarantee that the PMs are no longer available.

And, ofc you have to RUN that cleanup cron job - "by default" means nothing, really - nobody will notice when the cron is disabled behind he stages and deletion of "orphaned" PMs is delayed until they were "reviewed".

So, what "inaccurate" information am i spreading here now? :scratch2:

Disclaimer:
(I am not saying that 711 or the new forum admins haved done any of the things said above or would ever do - this is just a purely academical objection based on a hypothetical scenario)

And, maybe not the right place to state this, but i happen to know for a fact that at least 2 vBulletin based EU forums (not EF!) had admins who were reading others PMs... and no, im not talking about reported PMs (for whatever reason) here.

That's what I meant by "default": the cleanup cron job runs automatically by default on vBulletin; there is no need to manually run it.

For an active forum like EF, disabling those hourly and daily maintenance tasks would very quickly result in a huge amount of database clutter, which would ultimately negatively impact site performance.

This is a lot of words to avoid a clear statement like "I do run it" or "No, i don't run it"... all you do is telling us that it would be beneficial to do so... ;)

And if not, i hope you run it at least once before you hand over the data to FPC.
(and we both know that the negative impact on the forum performance will hardly be thaaaat huge if you run it only once a week...)

But this is going too far here anyway, all i wanted to say is this:

"Deleting everyhting in your PM inbox/outbox or it's subfolders" is no 100% sure way that the new owners can't read what you wrote - which is, still, an absolutely accurate statement.

Ah, page 31!! Now *that's* Entropiaforum!! LOL

Well, if I have an offer for a great job and my boss lets me sign
"you shall not become pregnant within the next 5 years or you must have an abortion"
I can happily sign it without having to have an abortion and can still keep my job ;)

Let the boss sue me: " but you signed it!!!"

You seem to have an unusual idea of the term "employee". Would you consider the people who work at the ISP that provides the internet connection for Entropia to be MindArk employees? (they also are paid for services by MA). Are the people who work at FPC's public relations firm also FPC employees?

Well, if someone playing in the casino all day would be responsible for the transport of the money to the bank or lets say for the mainanance of the slot mashines I would be seriously wondering...still he is playing private and he might have a company that maintains ( however you spell it ) slot mashines

That would not necessarily erase them from the database and actually I don't want to erase them...would you want to throw away all the mail you ever got coz u need to move and your new landlord has a key to your house and you don't know if he enters your flat and reads your post?

Hanne|FPC addressed these questions in the official announcement on Entropia Gateway:

I didn't read that, thank you for pointing me.

Anyway, I am not even talking about me here, I am just wondering.

( I just hope to get a bigger mailbox!!)

I prefer small boxes myself.

I'm curious about what ND and the other planet partners feel about this.

In a way, FPC is "sniping" the main user forum for themselves.

In particular, I wonder what Rocktropia players will think when they come onto the forum and discover they have been registered for a Planet Calypso forum.

I imagine there would be madness if ND purchased EF and suddenly everyone was part of a Rocktropia forum - heh.

(obviously it's not as such large an issue due to population differences, but the principle remains the same).

Looks like you "sniped" the strategy here ;)

Let's play deja vu. I looked back at the thread announcing when this forum was sold to 711. Skipping the identity issue that was the main focal point, here's some of the main concerns folks had about he site being sold.

Remember, these were all said back in 2006. See how many of them you recognize from this thread.

Also sad to not know who reads your private messages and can check your IP adress.

5: What prevents 711 to make a script to extract *all* email adresses, IP's used and even private messages?

Also regarding the privacy concerns people have raised:

Anybody with database access can view individual private messages as they are stored in plain text. It takes a some effort to dig through the DB manually however with some practice or by finding the appropriate admin addons for your forum the process becomes quite easy.

Thus if there is a conversation you don't want stored in the EF vaults, hold it elsewhere :)

Seriously though, the only thing I'm worried about is that the new owner now knows my rl identity, paypal account, and ip addresses that i use. All things that are quite personal.

The only thing in this change of ownership that really concerns me, (unless drastic changes occur), would be the possible security issues that could arise from this. My ip and email addy are now in the hands of someone whom I did not agree to give them to

I find the unauthorized sale of our personal information to be a violation personally.

711 is not THE GAME but an user. The different is huge, and u well know it.

Hanne isn't the game either. Hanne will be Admin, not FPC, Hanne.

1 minute over time!

YA I want to fuck somebody (before my account dies)

lol just passed my 1000's post :)

every minitue of over time equals 1 hour on top of the original 12 hours

Usual MA time, eh? :silly2:

Let us now end this era with a movie quote:

I remember that for 100 years we have fought these machines.
I remember that for 100 years they have sent their armies to destroy us, and after a century of war I remember that which matters most...
We are still here!
