Greetings from planet Rocktropia!

I am embarking on a monumental survey of minerals on Rocktropia. The purpose of this survey is to:

First: Help the mining community gain knowledge of what exactly lies underneath the Rock N Roll Haven known as Rocktropia.

Second: Produce a quality map of where these resources are.

Third: Attract miners to the mineral bounty that is Rocktropia.

Fourth: Make lots of peds!

I will log my journey into Quadrant 1 of the musical planet here. Not only will I eventually produce a complete map of what I have found, I will also give coordinates for your maps. I will also update you on hazards you may encounter along the way.

There is money in them thar rocks on Rocktropia. I intend to show you where!

This map is provided courtesy of Rokctropia, Neverdie, and the fine avatars that make up our community of Rocktropians.

Rock On!

So how many players on rock world at peak hours?
How do you get there?
Is there mining taxes on this planet?
is this a noob friendy planet or for pro's?
Is it better as you find more becons or bigger ore amounts?

1. time will tell, he just started !!
2. enter a tp of your choice and chose rocktropia, pay 40ped, arrive, travel back by chosing calypso, pay 40ped, voila
3. yes and no. no taxes like we are used on landareas, but some kind of hidden tax is everywhere (as in average return <100%) else MA and ND would starve
4. depends on area i guess (mob wise). not comfortable for noobs i'd say since supply of (L) items of all kinds should be kinda low yet until traders established there. so you have to bring most items you use incl. replacements from calypso.
5. time will tell, he just started !! neighter nor i guess. from global chat i'd say it's the calypso loot script, not the cnd one. @beacons: not implemented yet after 10.0

@op: gl and thx for the project

good luck

Day 1

Most of the time today was spent in preparation for the task at hand.

Safety First: :nurse:

For many of the beach areas on Rocktropia, no armor or light armor is needed. I picked up Ghost as it is readily available to all mid level avatars at an affordable price. This will not match up to all of the baddies on Rocktropia, but it will suffice for task at hand. 2A plate should be adequate for now.

I am armed with an opalo, should light pulling duties be required and a lowly Jasonich AP for my main weapon.

Mining Equipment::hammer:

Most mid level miners can go out on Rocktropia with the standard OF105. I kicked mine up a couple notches with Depth I and II enhancers. A 104 is perfect for excavating. Due to the sheer volume of bombs I will be dropping, no amps will be used during any of this survey.

Test Run:

As you know, I am going to survey the NW Quadrant of Rocktropia, or Quad 1. I started my run at 123420, 97282. 250 bombs later, I ended at 123828, 97250. The method I used was pretty much contour line, straight as possible, strip mining. This type of mining does not account for skill gains, rather it is drop, run, count, repeat. I used 20 second intervals which made for approximately 100m between drops. I also double bombed all claims.

There were 53 claims in all ranging from class 2 to class 14. (Towards the middle of the runs, I will post coordinates of each and every hit.) Most notable on the list of ores was, well Lyst. It is the predominant mineral on Rocktropia, Calypso, and CND. I was pleased to find some hits of Alferix and Narc early in this quad. Of particular note was Erionite in the area. It seemed to be well represented and hit with large quantities per claim including a class 14 for a 79 ped global  . There were also trace amounts of Blausarium. A class 12 Narc hit  was quite a welcome claim as well.

Dangers: :sniper: So far, the worst mob I have run into is young to guardian lone wolves. Most people can handle this size in Pixie.

Coordinates: I will post those when I get them situated in my database. I will arrange coords by ore, so that you can get a general idea where everything is. A map will be forthcoming with target areas for different ores. If this project is successful, it may be expanded to enmats.

Day 2 Log

Another day deep in the wilds of Rocktropia...

Day two of the mineral survey of Rocktropia has come and gone. Today, I dropped 450 bombs for a total of 700 bombs over the two day period. The bottom line everyone wants to hear about is: How much did you bring in? TT value of ores to date is 793 ped, which I think should dispell the myth that Rocktropia has no minerals.

Day 2 Stats: :lam:

Starting Coords: 123900, 97250. Ending Coords: 125150, 94000.
450 Bombs were dropped in the mentioned area for 102 claims. The largest claim was a class 14 Gaz hit:yay:. Ores hit included Lyst (and lyst and lyst and lyst), Erion, Erdo, Blaus, and Gaz.

Dangers: :rocket:

Just lone wolves from young to provider with very rare guardians and dominant. Ghost armor with 2A plate absorbed most everything.

Miner's notes: :deal:

The farther to the east I traveled, the more lone wolves I met. Not quite enough to make mining difficult but just enough to be damned annoying. Bring your ammo with and some armor. If you use ghost, a fap shouldnt even be needed. These lone wolves are small, low looting animals, so don't expect much more than an annoyance. Remember, stay on task and mine....don't go postal on the doggies! (I had a hard time reminding myself of that!)

I was pleased to see gaz start to show up on the map. Gaz started showing up east of 124200 and I was still hitting it at 125000. If you are looking for gaz, I would say definately east of 124200 and south of 96000. I do not know the southern most reach of the gaz since I have been cutting off at 94000. Erdo was hitting in decent quantities in the target area as well. I have been pleasantly surprised by the finds thus far and am profitable on the mining side of this expedition. In mining Rocktropia for awhile now I have noticed that short runs are hit and miss, but serious mining trips of 200+ bombs seem to be well rewarded. This planet is perfect for the mid level miner.

As I stated in the previous log, I am using the strip mine method. Bear in mind, there are some mountains that you simply cannot go over. I suggest bombing around them and getting back on your line after you have passed the mountain. There will be many high areas or cliffs that are simply too difficult to mine and you will want to try and efficiently pass those. Always be prepared with a tp chip, just in case you have to hop over a mountain or two.

I have 155 coordinate sets for all my claims recorded and I will release those coordinate sets as I complete more of this quest.

It is a shame that more people don't try out the planet. At first, when the VU was young on Rocktropia--I was getting next to nothing. As the planet has been maturing, the minerals have settled into their places. The planet has a bad rep among miners because of the early VU, and I am hopefully going to change the collective minds of those miners and bring them back to try the Rock once again.

An ATH would go a long way towards that goal...(are you listening MA? LOL)

Day 3 intermediate update:

A cosmic ion storm of an enormous magnitude disrupted much of today's mining. Equipment outages and crashes caused for lack-luster mining. In English and without the sugar coating...

MA is having some issues today. I believe it has totally affected mining. Today I found 84 claims thus far and every single claim, save one, was Lyst. :scratch2: There was one single claim of Iolite. Iolite????? Really? I am going to chalk this up to MA, and keep mining.

Personal note to miners: Quadrant 1 (NW quarter of Rocktropia) is mineral rich, but east of approximately 128000 and north of 95000 (in that quadrant only) is rugged terrain with more hassle to mine than you want to deal with. I will log a few more claims in that area before I pack up and head back SW to smoother lands. Professional miners like smooth terrain in general anyhow, so I am sure most will not attempt to mine these areas. I want to concentrate resources on areas that are miner friendly. Rocktropia has many large, open areas to mine and I want to highlight those.

Also of note: There is a creek at 127500 approx that has high cliffs and Lemmy Dragons. Unless you are armored to the teeth or have evade like an SOB, I would mine other areas of Rocktropia.

For me ore mining in rocktropia has been 60% TT back and most of it is Lyst.

I am really trying to see a reason to stay in here but right now I can't. I might try a couple of runs more before accepting defeat and coming back home.

Gratz on your good luck in the rock. :yay:

P.D. I really, really, REALLY hate those freaking lone wolves. They are more anoyng than the merps.

If I may offer advice before you give up.....I have found some nice diversity in the NW from about 123400 to 125500 and from 94000 to 96500. So if you use those coordinates to draw a box, try that area out. There is still a high % lyst, but I got some nice hits of narc, gaz, erion, erd, and alf. The wolves out there are small for the most part.

Here is the first set of data. More to come as I have time to put it in my db.

Day 3--A day interrupted

Mining was difficult, to say the least. As I stated in my interim report, there were many problems with the computer interface and equipment. In English, MA screwed the pooch somewhere. I extended my mining day to make up for down time.

On to important details:

I posted the first chunk of data. Digest with glee!

The numbers may be slightly skewed because of the MA errors. It seems for a long time before the eventual server down time I was hitting only lyst with one single hit of Iolite. I believe these statistics to be an anomoly caused by the problems with the server. My usual % of lyst is around 50-60%. Not that I dislike lyst; Peds are peds!

The numbers: 700 bombs for 151 hits. After the server came back up, I started hitting other ores besides lyst. Newcomers to the list include Niks, Belk, Iolite, and Frig. Although there were no globals mining during this period, I did hit many 8-11s. For those 1400 total bombs and decay over 3 days, I pulled in 1252 peds tt value. With markup (and counting lyst as tt), that should be slightly above even.

Miner's notes: If you are the average miner, such as myself, you prefer to prospect and not kill. As I made my way to the NE corner of the quadrant I am mining, I noticed that it was hard not to kill. If you are armored poorly, or even average...this area is to be avoided. The area from 128800-130600, 95300 is not a smooth mining area. Mobs of note in this area are Motorhead Security, Lemmy's Champions, and Lemmy Dragons. My Ghost was getting chewed up by the Motorheads and Lemmy's Champs. I found that I could do those with great cost in time and ammo...not to mention decay in armor. Bear in mind, the loot was good off the motorheads and champions, but that is not what we are here for! On a side topic, I did pull a 109 ped global off a motorhead. I got a Legendary Rock N Roll Axe and a ZK 4 off that global and an electric chip off another. As for the Lemmy Dragons....do not approach unless you have much better armor than ghost. I was cooked for a mean 130 points in my ghost and 2A.

The rugged terrain combined with the skill level of the mobs in the area makes mining a difficult task. I did drop a few bombs in the area to get samples of what is around that area, and all I pulled up was lyst in small quantities. I returned to the west coast and continued my survey south of 94000 down to around 90000 and strip mined to about 123800. The mineral density was pretty good and there was a good variety of minerals to be found. I suggest any new miners on Rocktropa start with that area. Again, I am using an OF 105 with I and II depth enhancers, so get yer gear on!

Good luck with your project - I'm curious about the final results.

Just 1 question for you - will you also test a better finders on RT, cause the ammount of lyst you're getting is just scarry... If there are so many pure lyst fields, then it's not a suprise than miners are not really fond of RT

I am trying to stick with a middle of the road finder that most average miners can use. The amount of lyst is quite high, there can be no doubt of that and I am getting it at depths down to 800m+. I don't view them as lyst fields, per se, rather the entire planet is a ball of lyst with veins of other remarkable ores. Knowing where the other ores are is key to mining success on the planet.

I am finding that the west coast about 300 meters in from the coast and on in for about another 1200m is pretty good for a lot of things.

I just love this sense of humour

When choosing area to mine the first thing I look at is (what a suprise ) average markup. So I guess atm I dont have balls to explore that ball of lyst with better finder ;)

Just for kicks, the next couple of days I am gonna go in there with a tik120 and enhance it at every opportunity. Lets see what comes up.

Day 4....short run

Well folks, almost every miner has a little woman who makes him bomb the shit out of planets. Mine wanted to go out, so the run was short.

Changes: Ok, I have received some input from a few miners asking me to kick it up a notch with depth....because they were pyst at the lyst! Originally, I was gonna kick it up to a tik120 but...I got some Emeril spice in me and BAM! I went with a tik220 with 3 tiers of depth enhancement.

The numbers: This was a mere 200 bomb run. There were 49 hits with one class 15 global for 160 peds (Frig). Most notable, the lyst % was down to less than 20%!!!!! There were 10 hits of lyst out of the 49 claims. New on the list of ores to show up: Iron and Igni. The tale of the tape is 1800 total bombs laid out for 1663peds tt. With markup, there should be profit!

Notes: I found a sweet little fishing hole for ores just north of the Stadium Parking TP. That is found at 128191, 93157. This roundish valley between the mountains yielded a nice amount of iron, igni, narc, and belk. The only annoyance was the low level wolfies. They are pretty easy to wack, and one looted a ZK3. I also mined the coast on the eastern side of the quad. This is the coastal are to the east of the afore mentioned mountains surrounding the sweet fishing valley. The coast was good for Lyst to the north end of it and Niks, Iolite, and Belk. The lyst zone was north of 93000 on that coast and the rest of the ores were south of 93000. Mine all the way to the mountainsides on that coast and go down as far as about 91000.

good luck with it!

Same here, too much Lyst definitely is not good for miners. Good thing the Lyst % decreased with a higher finder. The density of mobs also seem a bit annoying.

The other thing that worries a lot of people are traders. If there's no traders there, then you can't sell your stuff :(

The rewards will come...

(I don't want this to sound negative against Werzoth, because it is not meant to be that...it is just a friendly reminder why to come to Rocktropia)

I understand the frustration, and I was about to give up myself at one time, but...

...you know, many folks had the same complaints when Calypso was young. Mobs are too hard, minerals are too deep, crafting costs way too much. This is a newborn planet with many things to be discovered and many challenges to overcome. The depth at which lyst becomes a minority mineral is one of those challenges. For those of us willing to explore and invest the time and energy into exploration and finding sweet spots--the rewards will come...

Let's think back to newborn calypso for a moment. The days when Buzz Lightyear, Warants, Neverdie, Stryker, Neomaven, Star....etc etc blazed trails on that new planet; back when these folks were mere mortals. They all invested time, money, skills, and sweat into taking advantage of the opportunity to grow up with a new planet--a new game.

This, my friends, is Rocktropia. Unlearn what you have learned on Calypso. This is a new ballgame. There are new things to find, new techniques for mining that reward you as you go deeper, harder, faster (much like your woman rewards you on a Friday night, no?).

...so, when I see the complaints--I understand. We have all gotten used to the easy life on Calypso and many have never endured what it was like in the begining; when life itself was a struggle on the planet.

I am in on the ground floor, baby and the line for the next in game immortals list starts behind me.

With all that being said:

Traders-- If you build it, they will come. I understand the frustration, believe me I do, but...if hunters and miners say "screw it" and doesn't come because there are no traders--traders will not come because there are no hunters and miners. If miners refuse to go deep, then they will never find the diversity under that rich soil.

Mob Density-- Yup, in some spots there is a wicked density of mobs. In other spots, I haven't spotted a single life form for 200 drops. I wouldn't mine in those densities, just like most folks won't mine certain domes on CND, or certain LAs on Calypso...pick your spot and mine away.

No worries Stackman ;)

I'm sorry if I sounded so negative. It would be nice if Rocktropia would thrive, more options for us out there. Hopefully you can prove me wrong on my negative points :D

...you know, many folks had the same complaints when Calypso was young.

They all invested time, money, skills, and sweat into taking advantage of the opportunity to grow up with a new planet--a new game.

ok when they remove the evade nerf and the skill[&atribute] gain nerf for Rocktropia the quote will be true... otherwise it is not. For miners the good old "veins" would have to be reintroduced and for hunters they would have to put the nice UL items back into the loot tabel.
As long as it doesn`t happen Rock is a big LA of calypso which is taxed with the fixed rate of 80PED for hangar owners and an unknown %rate for ND studios.
Well that`s my humble opinion and I don`t hunt much on LAs. :ahh:

Day Off

Even a miner has to attend to his wife, kids, and poker night with friends. LOL. The next mining day will resume soon. I seriously miss NRF!!!!! Map-making is hard ass work without it.

Charts, graphics, etc as of day 4

Ok, I have been crunching the numbers and stats. There are conclusions I have come to:

1. No one else is plotting exact claims, so I will furnish the plots only on request.

2. Deeper is better!

3. I still have some work to do in the quad, but I am running under budget. This is because there is a bit of terrain and places where mob density only allows an extremely small sample. This is true of all places throughout the game, so we can't blame Rocktropia to be sure. Example: you might not want to bomb falx hell or the middle of 3T swarms nor would you want to bomb the top of a steep mountain. You couldn't mine effectively in these places no matter what planet or resort.

4. I will provide exact locations of individual minerals after I collect more data. Right now, I am still working on it! The info will become more focused as I work it.

5. This is a survey. It is not meant to find every single mineral on the planet, but it is meant to give you a specific area to search for specific minerals (coming soon!)

And here is the data thus far that is worth mentioning

Some of the blank areas are due to terrain or mob density. Other areas that are blank...well I just haven't gotten there yet!!! Hold your horses!

This is with the OF105 and tier II enhancements. Lyst is king!

This is with the Tik 220. There is a better variety with more depth.

Final Day and maps of ores in quadrant 1

Ok folks....this is what you have been waiting for: The money shot!

I knocked out the rest of the quadrant today and I have completed the ore survey of Quadrant 1 of Rocktropia. I hit a another sweet spot around the stages in the middle of the quad. (see main stage, beer garden etc) Before you say, "Mob density," and make me have to jack slap you into next week...the wolves were annoying but lighter than some areas and the vamp chicks and vixens were almost completely pacifist. I walked right past those biotches and most of them didn't wanna break a nail on me. They must have heard about my rep as a bad ass SOB eh? Don't wanna mess with the Uberhoffer....ooooooooooooh.

Ok, back to reality... The maps. Remember, this is just quadrant 1.
