Did your charachter used to be male? I didn't know they had implemented that yet. I always wondered though... if your charachter changes, none of your armor would fit anymore... but I suppose if you can afford the "Genetic Transformation", you can afford new armor... ha ha!

What about using a skill chip for melee combat?

I'm a laser sniper but it seems that melee combat is the skill that helps most to increase your health. Is it ok to chip for the extra health, or do I need to change my way of hunting to a way I do not enjoy?

depends on who you talk to... I don't think there's anything wrong with chipping anything... that's what it's there for. If I were to think back to when I first started, and all the money I spent on ammo, I could probably have purchased chips cheaper than the cost to get to the levels I'm at today... If you feel guilty... then maybe you should go to confession and do it anyways...
