Im not sure if somthing like this has been suggested.
And the idea I have might be considderd "Dated" compared to other technology on Calypso,

But with the implementation of vehicles,
Why not add GPS,

A simple hand held that you can select a route, or create and log a route, say for instance a mining route, (personal to the holder of the GPS unit ofc)

And usefull for Vehicle Drivers,

I think it could be a nice little addition,
But please if you do take this idea,
Don't have the annoying "Please turn left" voice...
Becuase if I had it.. id just TT it if it did that :p

Let me know what you think.

Andy.

Not a totally bad idea :D

We got the current map, with out global position and coordinates...

You just want something to print a path of your choice on the map?

imo kinda useless... as it is now we can make our own road just by looking at the map where we want to go and where we are...

the "GPS" is already here, Global Positioning System :)

Imo don't give em ideas until they got the old systems back...

BBB!

Navigational aids and other GUI improvements are far from useless...

And they can add some decay to the loot pool.

Instead of implementing a new device they could update
the map so that you can set waypoints and plot courses.

Yeh they could update the current map to work like that no problem,

all you would do like for miners for instance,
Or perhapse somthing like entropia tour agancy,
Where you could plot a course with pin point accuracy,

It would also help with more accurate TP's using mind force chips,

for instance. you find the exact cordinate you want to go to,
and then you can store that location, and go back.

you can also setup your own points of intrest.

I agree, that the Dev's have alot of work and that implenting new things wont be on the highest point of their agenda right now,
Getting everything working will be of course.

But it is an idea for later.

I think it could be usefull.

Perhapse with some extra dynamics too.

Like having the map detach from the UI somehow and having it in a handheld form,
or putting it on an ore seeker, it gives more of an immersive feel to the navigation, you can just glance at your ore seeker as you run, rather than having a large map clutter up your view.

But thanks for the feedback anyways.

Andy.

As a miner what I would actually find more useful is a way on the radar to lock one's running to an exact cardinal point of the compass. Even a thin guideline line on the radar would help.

At the moment, I can count pretty accurately an exact 100 metres while running, but I usually have to shuffle sideways to get to an exact coordinate (yeah, I know, being quite so accurate is completely pointless, but that's how I mine!).

Well thats basically what I mean,

alot of miners have a route that they stick to right?

would it be nice to pin point that location in a GPS unit and just TP to it, (using TP Chip I mean)
And then follow your route,

You could also show like a temp history of where you have been,

It would be usefull in tracking certain mobs, or globals with it for instance.
For statistical purposes it could be quite nice,

As well as that it could also display how many people are in each area.

Finding the most populated areas could be benifitial to other players such as traders.

I understand that could be annoying to others too lol,

I think it could be a very usefull tool in the long run anyway.

And I would have thought relativly simple to implement.

I could be wrong of course.

Anyone from FPC or MA care to comment on the idea?

Andy.

quick key p = position.

That aside, sounds like you want an autopilot that does more then just drive in straight line like autorun does. That does sound like an interesting idea... both for vehicles and avatars.

For me, it's the fact that the autorun doesn't start one pointing in an exact direction. After running 100 metres, even a very slight kick off true N,S,E,W ends up with a pace or two to right or left.

So my chat log is full of little time-consuming jiggles like this:

:eyecrazy::silly2:

Come to think of it, I might be happy to spend a pec in mindforce to take me to an exact point once I'm within a fraction of it as above - as part of my finder. :loco:

No not so much auto pilot,
It needs to be as manual as possible, or whats the point.

you can just press R in flight in a VTOl and it goes in a line, same with running,
etc etc.

But more of a journy planner,
or a logbook of journys.
places of intrest.

Think of how the GPS worked in Farcry2,
If you played it you will see how map was in a GPS reciver form,
thats kind of what I mean.
Only slightly more immersive, where you can actually input data to it.

Like make routes..
If you really wanted to get cleaver about it,
you could also have an option on it that displays the map gradiants,
So you could show higher and lower points and colour code them,

doint this way you could go from A to B,
Knowing how steep a hill is or if there is a mountain in the way is a big help becuase your GPS could just tell you that it would be quicker, or more efficiant going around the left hand side of the mountain or the right handside,
or in some cases, right over it.

It sounds like alot.
But it isnt,
And I don't think it's too much to ask in a world that is so technelogically advanced.

I mean you cant tell me we have masterd space travel and planet colonisation, but not GPS.

Just a side note, if you do develop it,
Call it somthing like the Omegaton Killmore GPS Reciver,

Pushing my luck?

lol

I was recently sent an internet journey planner from someone who is about to drive from the east to west coasts of the USA. Four pages :D

I absolutely love the idea of places of interest [+rep]. Think I might send an expanded idea on to General Discussion.
