The EBN call center have been flooded with reports of large, spiny beasts that have been sighted on Calypso. While descriptions are vague they don't entirely fit any known animal. Wildlife expert Lys Magsun says that the sightings “can be explained by disease or radiation-induced disfigurement in known fauna.”

EBN has tried to contact the Calypso Defense Force for a statement, but their spokesperson has refused to comment on the matter. Meanwhile, the Imperial Zoological Scouts released a statement saying they will make an official announcement regarding the situation tomorrow.

I think they resemble the "new breed" of Argonauts pretty well.

Spines on back=hair, for instance.

New breed argonaut:

Forward lending walk, hands with 3 fingers (used to be more)
Slightly "older" argonaut, with hair on the back:

I'd say it's likely that the spikes has evolved from the back hair on the argonauts.

Also it looks like they fight simularily to argonauts.

But, of course, it can also be a mix. Legs as powerful as Hogglo legs, part of head simular to Daspletor. (Probably not mainly related to daspletor as the legs seem to be at the end of the back rather than the middle - the tail is not retained). Maybe head resebles slightly of Hogglo to.
