Lately I been talking to old friends, new friends and old gaming buddies about Entropia. And I find myself quite lacking as I am a nub in the game on how to market it nicely. Usually I end up with telling them that if you deposit the same as you would do for a p2play game per month that you can have some fun etc and helps you keep away from the sweating etc.

I was chocked when friends did not see my gamestyle of sweating day and night was not appealing!! :silly2:

I otherwise mention:

A lot of different professions to work in, hunting, mining and crafting etc. That the world is huge and a lot to explore and a lot of good people who are playing. I also try to mention that it can be a harsh environment and that people need to understand that you wont "make money" from playing the game etc.

After that, well, I don't know what more to say really to people who don't play.

What do you guys say?

And d00msayers are not wanted with comments like: "Don't play" etc.

Just some constructive comments please.

I think one of the appealing aspects of this game is that you actually have to do some research outside of the game itself. On the forums for example. Maybe that's just me though

idk... i just show em my pedcard and explain that 10ped = 1 usd..
that usually does the trick ^^

Aye, that is a good point. Just need to warn ppl ahead of time for all the negative ppl and doomsayers that are around on the forums.

I have told a few that it's worth trying out, yeah it's expensive and flawed, like much in life though; unfortunately too few people find out about it to tell them anything.

I certainly do not slag off the game... which would make me wonder why I play it:confused:

Right on the money. Id say many enjoy the complexity and challenge EU poses.

For the stats and numbers people, id show them entropedia. Good for the strategists too.

I tell them what is EU about, and when the general theme does appeal them i say they should create an account and try it out.

When they did and still are interested i tell them to watch out and play according to their budget and teach them how that can be obtained.

Usually that works, but often point 1 already has the result they don'T want to play ( i know many Tetris style gamer or no gamer at all )

Tell them it's sort of like online gambling meets Second Life, but the cash will go a little ways longer than in a real casino if they don't blow it all and think a little before they spend.

However, realistically, the few people that do ask me about it, I typically have to tell them to stay as far away as possible because there's too many bugs and exploits, too many scammers - many of which are using alt avatars, too much copy/paste from support, support tickets that get ignored for months, and a lot of promises from the companies that are behind the scenes that have never been kept for years and/or are blatent lies because the companies behind the scenes consider anything said in the forums, to reporters, or in advertising as just a bunch of hype and rumors they don't have to stand behind.

I ask them why would they want to chat in facebook for hours, when then can take it too another level, create an avatar, then use a few emotes to make their chats more interesting. Then if they wanted to engage in the activities available in world they could do so. It's all optional.

In game i tell newbies you can have loads of fun with an opalo rifle and $10 of ammo. I rememember I didn't deposit for a good month when i first started. l survived on peds for sweating, but sweat was 6-7 peds per k then.

I first deposited when I "wanted" too and not when I felt like I was "forced" too, to start enjoying the Eu world more. Everyone is different, however if I hadn't been eased in at the start, I wonder if i would still be here now 6 years later.

I think noobs need to earn a few ped a little easier. Worth it in the long run. but they need to earn it themselves not beg for peds.

Sweat needs a new use urgently in my opinion, to help newbies on their way to a fulfilling EU life.

I give them pure facts.

It's a game for ppl who have spare time and money.
Most expensive MMORPG with RCE incorporating multiple planetary system.. and yet could be free.
and tell about the huge hof, space motherships piracy etc.

only a few created account. 2 playing on and off!

You can say things like:

Been going 10 years+
No subscription
CryEngine 2 graphics
Real Cash Economy
No level cap
Continual development
No need to pay for expansion packs
Chance to loot rare valuable items

I stopped talking other ppl into playing EU.. :scratch2:

i dont advertise or recommend it to others in general and i dont try to find arguements for others to play it.
its too hard to do as the type of gameplay depends very strong on the player attending.

beside that i am still defending my thought that its alone the companies job to design and promote their game in a way it reaches a propper audience and stays alive in a reasonable way.

if they want me to talk it to others they can implement a "customer adverts to customer" programm.
each time you have adverted someone to the game you can sent him a email invitation via a ingame-function with a number-code.

if the woman or man download the client then he can register and enter the code which was in the email he or she got from me.
the system recognizes that someone registered with my number and waits then until the new player sends in a copy of his passport via support case or post/fax to MA.

As soon that new account has been validated as "real person" account i get 500 ped gifted for getting a new player in as soon as the new player deposited over 500 ped total. also i get 100 point in the promoter skill.

as soon i have 5000 points in promoter i get a small extra item. and every 5k points another.

i would promote it then. but not for a hunter harness mentor editon...

like it is now i help people inside but wont get new players in.

=) would that be good thing?

A selling point is that the player base is relatively old.

I, for one, feel very uncomfortable in games where players are maybe 40 years younger than me. Feel that I should be earning grooming skills.

I don't tell or ask anyone to play the game. They ask me what I am doing I say playing EU, they ask what it is I give them link to download and let them make up their own minds. If they ask why I like it I pretty much tell them great way to waste time and money when I'm not doing much anything else, not to mention the constant controversy of every little thing in the game is interesting to be a part of. Game is continually changing so kind of interesting to see what happens as EU goes on. Other games change but man EU makes drastic 90 degree turns it seems at times and catches everyone off guard.

A guy who has been doing some work for me is an addicted gambler. By that I mean he has lost a lot of money, attended Gamb. Anon. meetings, is incapable of keeping any winnings and almost hopes that he loses because he knows that the next bet will double.

So I showed him EU. :scared::bomb:

This game can cost a lot or a little. It's up to you. When I first started I thought it was gambling but now I know the truth this universe is much easier to live with. MA needs there poundvof flesh, te trick is to get other people to pay your pound for you :broke:

Nah, I resorted back to "dating" mentality and just grab the closest microphone and sing this one.

Either they start playing or I get PEDs for either spend the night with them or to stop me from sining more.

Everytime I bring up EU to gamer friends they have already looked into it and they begin grillin me about my mental condition for playing in a digital pyramid scam. Or they have actually tried it seriously and I got one time as I quote..."Unless you can throw money at the game it is like an exercise in masturbation that you never get to finish"

some just leave it at "are you fucking goofy?"

I tell em I have been here for 5 years and after playing here not many other games can hold my attention. MMORPG's are all the same now..They start out great then the nerfs come and then all the "skilling aids" and in 6 months you can be best in game wondering why you are so bored. Here there is ALWAYS something different to try, or find, or see.

I see MA heading down that same road recently making it too generic and not unique like it used to be and handing out far to easy skilling mechanics which will require continual nerfing like every other game out there.

Basicly as of late there isnt much to really tell people about EU to seperate it from other games. I dont even bother with the RCE concept of it as that is only for the privleged class not the avg player. Its a non issue for normal gamers.

I guess you mean that most players don't take money out of the game while active. Yes, in that respect for most RCE isn't important.

But you do have an asset that can eventually be converted back into rl cash.

I got into machinima, filming. It's a great way to save ped when I'm broke and takes endless hours of shooting, mixing and cutting. When I see someone at my house, I always have my latest creation to show them and they ALL THINK I'm A BIT MAD LOL
Boo.
ps. it's the 30 second buffer - you record 30 seconds before you hit record that has me hooked in, it's an artform.

I tell them...

"If you like to play games you dump money into, play Entropia! You will get something back for what you put in, unlike a lot of other games you can dump money into and not get much (if anything) back from!... I was playing a game before Entropia that was free, but could be made more fun by putting money into, though I could never get anything back out of it except for the fun I had playing it!... One day when I quit playing Entropia, I'll be able to cash out!... I won't get all I spent, but I will get quite a large sum instead of nothing, or next to nothing!"

I haven't been able to convince anybody to depo more than $100 USD, or stay longer than a year!...
Most people I tell about Entropia can't even comprehend spending what I have on a game...
(I relate to that when I think of players like Star & Skippie and such others in comparison to myself)

Entropia is right up my alley, because I like to mainly focus on 1 game all the time, and play 1 or 2 others every now and then just to take a break from my main game... Plus I love dumping money into games I play (based on game-play cost, not monthly subscription), and the opportunity to get cash-value back at the same time! I don't know of any other game that's similar to Entropia and on the same scale! (either cash-wise or level of involvement... & of course, both combined)

all the ppl I know who do play computer games already play EU.. the others who dont play games think Im a little wierd I guess.

like one of my best mates who is a body builder.. he spends about 2000 SEK buying chicken and canned tuna every week.. thats around 280-290 US$ a week on special food that makes his muscles bigger.. but he is hardcore and understand completly why some ppl spend alot of time and money on a hobby. the other ones just think me and my body builder freind is nuts..

oh shit.

we'll start rebuilding those defences in East Anglia.
 :D

I'd honestly tell them to "stay the hell away!".

I am disallowed from elaborating, else this post would be erased.

I tell them there's better, more fun, more TANGIBLE ways to blow a small fortune.

I tell them that it is a challenge, that I've been successful and that I think most people won't be successful in it. Just like poker.

another thing I like to do to kinda trick people into being interested...

when people stop by my house while I'm playing and ask what game it is, I explain vaguely about the main activities (hunting, mining, crafting), and the $$$-PED 1/10 ratio, then open up the HoF board!...

"look, this guy made $500 with one kill, this guy made a $200 pair of shoes" - they go "that's crazy" - I tell them the HoF board looks like that every day, then I switch it over to All Time HoFs and their eyes really bulge!...

I find it's the best way to peak someone's interest when they show skepticism!
