inspired by George Skywalker, i think there is another pressing question: why isnt Calypso being marketed? where are the new players supposed to be coming from? i dont think i've seen anything that wasnt revolving around a big price sale for years, and not even that for a few months. when will there be a proper broad ranged marketing campaign aimed at mainstream gamers, or even non-mainstream, that focuses on the game play itself?

They did have a banner campaign not THAT long ago with some banners on different websites...

I think that there's no real payoff for marketing entropia

RCE games are a niche, like it or not that's the way it is and that's the way it will stay.
And no amount of marketing is going to change that.

Look at it this way :

Ever seen an add on tv regarding escort services?
Or for my own country exclusively : an add regarding coffeeshops(yes, the MJ piss-in-ur face kind)?

Disclaimer : I don't hold the examples equal to EU, it's just to make a point

too many bugs... once those get fixed, it might be worth advertising more.

i think that was from a Jon Jacobs press release. i think it has worked in the past however i dont recall, other than planet partners, any press that wasn't about the money. there's more to Calypso, right?

Was wondering same thing myself, why there`s no marketing. Makes no sense for SSE to buy FPC for millions $ if they don`t intend to do anything with it. Unless... they`ve bought FPC for the userbase only and they hope playerbase will move to Planet Micheal or the Universal Monsters planet.

Think however we should wait before drawing conclusions. FPC might be in transition mode atm.

I have Alot of respect for what Jon (Neverdie) has achieved, produced and Created (Yes, let's be fair... Created), but I'm not sure that drawing a comparison between EU and Facebook Farmville is entirely fair...

But, like the OP, I do find myself wondering why I don't see more marketing for my beloved on-line universe.

I was lucky. I got a personal invite. So here I am.

I admit I don't spend my "spare" time trawling the web for mmorpg references, but surely i can't be alone in that regard...

I feel certain that EU IS being marketed, but if it IS, it's in publication to which I don't subscribe...

I'd be interested to learn more about EU's marketing "strategy"...

Now there's an interesting thought!

I would like to see advertising too, there has been small amounts eg.

I almost fell backwards off my chair a couple of months ago when I was searching isohunt and instead of the normal Evony ads I was confronted by a "Planet Calypso: The Colonist MMO" ad.

The ad looked good, genuinly interesting, but only saw it for a week or so and never again.

it's simple SEE and FPC are in cahootz when Planet Michael is launched they'll make an invisible warp tunnel which sends unsuspecting players from planet michael to Calypso!

I can just imagine it some noobs dancing away and wham they suddenly land on top of a falx

I suppose they have had least made steps to integrate with Facebook, this must bring them some exposure.

Because the game is too good and don't need any advertising.
And more and more players start making youtube videos, logs, trading sites, soc sites, forums....
Those bussinessmens behind EU looks like masters of taking more for free.

Well, it should change when the new owner really takes over all the functions etc.

No they will be landing on the wishing tree

PS dont you think Cartman looks like someone we know :)

He he you can do everything and space pirates too :)

Advertizing is one thing... and yes MA or FPC do none of it....

On the other hand, the biggest advertizing is word of mouth... and this is not happening anymore. A lot of people feel reluctant to recommend this money drain. The game is simply not appealing ennough to be recommended to people. I for instance would not want to convince my friends to loose big bucks on this if they can play other MMORPGs for 10 $ ...

That is so true. I used to recomend this game for many of my friends, and some joined... tho they are all gone now.
Havent recomended this game to anyone in years, because I know WoW is a much better game.

Knowing the addictive nature of EU I couldn't live with myself if I got someone else into it now.

Well back up to the start of PE and what has evolved since.. MA has a REALLY bad rep in the gaming world from all the bad press and word of mouth. The only advertisingthey did was the free to play...10 ped per US Dollar exchange....you could make maoney here type hype.

From there they devolved to showing extreme purchase's and then on to promotional events where they gave away super loots to "Special" players to show that miracules things can happen while invited press were watching.

They split off FPC so that Calypso is not visually associated with MA now... FPC has buckled under the pressure of crawling from under MA's bad rep..Now it is sold to See and FPC will not bother advertising as their only interest is to bilk as much ped from the planet as humanly possible before the sale.

What SEE will do to advertise is anyones guess.. keep in mind that advertising costs money and it is we the active players that will suffer the wrath of that bill to do so.

Again I shall state becareful what you ask for as history dictates in EU it will only hurt in the end for us lowly customers.

or.... if you have a small town. With two resturants where one is located in center and one on the way into town. Now when the resturant in center have a big advert campain, in nearby citys. 20-30% of the custumers affected by his advertiments went to the resturant located on the way into town, because they had never been here before, and didnt know there where two resturants here... Im guessing this strategy is what MA/FPC is counting on.

In my town it worked :)

Yeah but what if McDonald said we'll give you a discount for KFC meals then people from McDonalds may go to KFC ;)

Same here. I don't know if I would say WOW is better or worse (after all, I quit playing it), but I don't try to get my friends to come here either.

Same here... actually the longer these estate bugs go on, the more videos I'll put out on youtube that discourage people from participating, and you can bet your bottom dollar I'll be doing likewise IRL and in other social networks like Facebook... FIX THE BUGS, BRING BACK THE OLD SYSTEMS and that sort of thing will likely turn around for me and many others... Grapevine word of mouth advertising can be great IF what you offer is great. A bug filled piece of software and cliffhangers that are never ended (ahh, the egg) is not a great thing... :eyecrazy:

I don't do negative postings outside this forum, and I annoy ppl sometimes with my stories about cool deals inside EU. But I wouldn't recommend this game to annyone these days, as I am sure, they would lose 20 US$ before they understand how to play it... and I don#t want to be the guy who told them to spend their money.

The big problem is that when there is a big influx of new players it gets too laggy. Events like the vehicle give aways, new Port Atlantis, Harbinger etc, means that when more than 20 players are in the same spot the lag is awful. Why would a new player stay in a laggy game, I would not have stayed if I joined in the last few months
Pre-VU10 I loved how everything was, it worked!
I don't quite get what happened with Harbinger? A few cool unlimited weapons dropped, the storyline went nowhere and the event just stopped with no conclusion. Which brings me to the Book of the Machine.......what happens now?

Not enough time spent on storyline, too much time on plants and complex architecture! I just hope the next update has the old systems back!

Maybe it'll be continued later in the year, I couldn't imagine FPC spending all that time modelling a new creature / weapons just for it to never appear again....

we are still geting creature that was designed during beta , 8 years ago like steelbird...

That seems like a poor business decision. Like McDonalds would give people an incentive to visit their competitor, at the risk of their customer really liking KFC and never going to McDonalds again?

Now if you had said Taco Bell giving a discount for KFC, then you might be on to something...

If you own both it makes no difference to you which one they go to. You profit either way.
