Tezlapods have a pretty far roaming range. One probably just hit you without you noticing.

I unlocked a codex when I scanned someone's pet the other day. Interaction seems to facilitate unlocks in some way.

May be it was real Tezlapod. Seems Tezlapod are near robots.

they should add all pets to the codex itself. Quite a few don't have codex entries.
