How to prepare yourself for VU 10.0

This will probably be the biggest VU we have seen since Project Entropia was released. With this release, there will be unforseen issues. That is to be expected with any large software release/upgrade. So, the question is how do we prepare ourselves mentally for such an eventuality? One of the first things you should do, is take all the guessing and conjecture with a grain of salt. In other words, if the person speaking doesn't have first hand experience with the issue, you may not want to give their opinion too much weight. There are a lot of people guessing what is going to happen in the next VU and there is another group of people getting upset about it. Just calm down, take a breath, and wait to see for yourself what happens.

Get the client installed and working such that you can get to the login screen. If you get errors, you can search Entropia Forum to get help. Here is one of many posts that help with issues:

After we are able to log in, prepare yourself for bugs. There will be bugs in the new VU. Here is what you do about them. Take a screenshot where applicable. Screenshot should include time/date stamp (press c) and position (press p). You should be polite when sending the support issue in and be as descriptive as possible about what you were doing when the bug occurred, what the bug did or didn't do, etc. Sending in a support case saying "my rifle doesn't work right" will only clog the system and slow things down. If you can recreate the bug, send a step by step description of how to do this so that support can recreate it and find out how to resolve it. Don't expect someone else to turn in the bug. Marco has stated before that if more people complain about an issue it tends to get a quicker response then just one person complaining about it.

Not everything is going to work when the VU first starts. Once again, read the posts to find out if it is supposed to be broke. For instance, we will not be able to use our TP chips right away. While this is a major whining point for me, there is no reason to send a support case in since it is not supposed to be working. I don't need to come to the forum and whine about it, because it is not supposed to work.

Realize, there will probably be a lot of initial updates as bugs are being repaired. We may get kicked off a lot and have to download a lot of patches. Such is life, get over it. There are going to be some bumps and bruises as we explore this new world. If you prepare yourself mentally for that, it shouldn't be a big deal. If you log in to VU 10 thinking everything is going to work great, you are going to be an unhappy person.

Get ready for some pain, but in the end, get ready for a lot of fun. Please add to this any insights you may have on making the "initial shock" a little more bearable for other colonists. Hope to see you all ingame soon. :D

This should be filtered a bit (for sake of those most impatient and lost) and stickied IMO
