You are able to answer 2 questions. Please use one vote for the first 4 choices and 1 vote on the last 3 choices. If you vote NO you will not attend a LAN event, place your second vote in the final choice.

I want to put together a LAN event for those of us in the USA. Whether MA shows up in person or joins us on stream would be nice but not required. It is so that players on this side of the pond can meet up, knock back some beers, for those old enough to drink, play some EU, and just have a bunch of fun and build on the community.

Since I would be putting it together and I live in Florida, it would most likely be held in Tampa, or Fort Myers, as they both have an international airport for easy access from anyone outside of the country and stateside.

I would like to get a gauge on how many people would be interested in attending. I am thinking a 3-day event would be ideal. Arrive Thursday night/Friday. Do a pub crawl of sorts. Events and panels on Saturday leave on Sunday.
Given the proximity to theme parks, it could possibly contain/add a 1-day trip to Busch Gardens or Disney or the like to the itinerary, that way spouses and children can come for those that want to make a vacation out of it with their family. And would make for some great memories for long time soc mates or friends.
Ticket price would be based on the scope of what we try to achieve, cost of renting space/computers, and with enough RSVP's get a discount at a hotel for event attendees.

Please comment with feedback, suggestions, and constructive criticism.

Thank you and have a great day!

I think a major deciding factor for many people would be Mindarks commitment on attending, even virtually, and the details of their involvement. I assume you have already contacted them?

No I have not contacted them. It is a lot of work organizing such events, I want to see if its something even worth putting the effort to make happen for the players, but first I want to know if its something they would even want. It would be a lot easier getting mindarks commitment if there was a bunch of people willing to attend or we were having an event regardless of mindarks involvement and just making it for fun's sake and for people who have made friends over the past 20 years entropia has been around. Because lets face it, its not the money or mindark that keeps us playing, its the people we play with, thats what matters.

Also if the players can't even follow simple instructions on how to use the poll I created, how can we expect mindarks commitment to something if the players don't take it seriously.

Edit: At the time of this edit there are currently 10 voters including me. Which means there should be 10 votes in the top 4 choices combined and 10 votes in the botttum 2 choices combined. It is two seperate polls in one since the system won't let us make more than 1 poll per thread, and I did not want to make a separate post just to ask whether I should look towards incorporating family friendly activities like theme parks. And it would help with hotel booking options by getting a block rate for the event.

Edit#2: Added 3rd option to place second vote if you answered NO in the first 4 options to avoid misrepresentation of votes. Credit to Chalmers for bringing this to my attention.

You need a third option in the polls second question block to accomodate a no vote, because I voted no, and answering the current 2 choices wouldn’t make a lot of sense because both of them assume a yes vote.

Bump so this shows up in the sidebar on homepage. PLEASE read the instructions on the poll so I can get accurate information. Also leave a comment about what you think what you would want ideas and suggestions needed.

Aside from LAN events being cringe imo... I wouldn't wanna be physically near most people here, which is the real nail in the coffin for me. I love EU enough to consider it, but I'm not that excited about the majority of people here, on the forum at least.

I don't see it being a fun time.

I know forums typically bring out the best/worst of people being the vocal few over the mass majority, so if I really did go through with putting an event together I would try and target as many players that I can. Its a bit easier for them to do these things in sweden where everyone is only a few hours or a train ride or something away compared to the USA. And it might not necessarily be a "LAN" event, maybe more of a gathering of the community to make new friends, meet friends you have only ever talked to.
I went to an EVE event in Vegas one year, met with friends, went to the different panels etc. But the most fun part was the time outside of the EVE panels hanging with my friends going to shows and trying out a casino etc. So that is the reason I think holding it close to theme parks would be a good idea. So there are fun things to do unrelated to EU, outside of the LAN.
This game isnt like EVE or like League of Legends or other games where a LAN would have a major change on the gameplay experience, but a coming together of the community would be if done properly.

Xan, you might see about reaching out to some of the larger in-game societies to see if they would have interest? in a lot of ways, i'd have more interest in getting together with some of my socmates, if the socs could be convinced to attend they'd bring a lot of people with them.

Ok. So ask your Soc mates, have someone respond to me with an approximate of how many would want to attend if everything lined up right. I can start getting some numbers of how many people to possibly expect for booking purposes.
Tampa a little brutal right now maybe November - lol
I was thinking jan/feb after merry mayhem and other holidays when people are not with their families but it is still cool down here.

Asked the soc to see their response

Aside from that to elaborate I voted not to bring my family....I don't think my family really understands what EU is about and they would probably get the wrong idea. I know a lot of people think of EU as a form of gambling but I don't play it that way. I never expect I'll ever cash out and don't expect to make profit. Family might not see it that way though, and I don't want the headache ;)

Ok so should we still do a theme park as part of the event or not? seems a majority of the people would attend but not bring their spouse or kids.
