German nursing home finds missing elderly patients at heavy metal festival
A nursing home in Germany contacted the police last weekend because two elderly residents were missing. They weren’t drinking a cup of coffee somewhere or walking outside. No, the police found them at one of the largest metal festivals in the world.
The two elderly men broke out of their nursing home on Friday to attend the Wacken Open Air metal festival. After the German nursing home alerted police of their disappearance, police found the men at 3 a.m. at the festival.
“The two gentlemen had clearly enjoyed their Friday evening outing”, reports spokeswoman Merle Neufeld for the Schleswig-Holstein police to the German NDR Radio 1.
“They obviously liked the metal festival,” she added. And while they were “disorientated and dazed” when they were found, the geriatric metal heads really didn’t want to leave the festival.
The oldies were not allowed to feast all weekend on Wacken Open Air. The staff of the nursing home sent a van to bring the older men to the house. Because they were ‘ reluctant ‘ to go along, the van got an escort from the police.
Wacken Open Air is organised annually in the small town of Wacken, near Hamburg. This year was the 29th edition. With 70,000 visitors it is one of the largest metal festivals in the world.
