So a semi-noob player hits 592k ATH on the slot machines with EP2 recycle BPs. Meanwhile the top echelon of hunters/miners/grinders seem to never get rewarded the same way and have to spend thousands of dollars and years of grinding to acquire the skills to "cycle" the same click/bet size as some yolo crafters with zero skills and no barrier to entry.

The more of these hits that occur I always stop and ask myself how the "it's not gambling" argument is defensible when there is zero barrier to entry to click 20tt+ at the slot machine every 4 seconds.

the similar scenario applied to huntiung would be putting lp100s, mod mercs, and lvl 13 amps in the TT and making their skill requirements virtually zero. I don't think the issue is "who" hit the ATH, but rather "How" it was hit. It rubs me the wrong way and i'm sure it does the same to the lot of you, but feel free to explain in the replies.

The argument that "better gear and better skills = success" is weakened by these events
The argument that EU "isn't gambling" is further weakened by each of these events

I don't think i would feel the same way if it was some eomon stalker or something that hit for 500k, but that simply will never happen.

Not really. I disagree.
There are many ways to play this game. One of the ways is gambling and that's totally random.
Some of us don't gamble.
Gambling rewards 1 person out of 1000.
Hard work pays off every time, in the long run... well, most of the times, but the success rate is much higher...
If you have the gambling virus in your blood and whatever you do in this game you dream of the big one, then chances are that you'll never be happy.

GZ to amale, huge stack of PEDs there, hope it makes him happy.

Success is a matter of perspective. Success is the accomplishment of an aim, not the size of the highest personal single loot, for non-gamblers.

Leaving the pros and cons debate aside, we have been guessing for a long time if we would ever see a 1M ATH. If nothing else, this event moves up the bar by a lot, after so many years, and we can say that we are halfway there :)

The impact of skills is more an illusion than anything else, that's not new.
It's mostly a cover.

GZ to amale! I don't know him, but what an amazing hit! 😲 I think its cool to see these uber loots are still a possibility in 2021. Now, let's see a 200k+ hunting uber before 2021 is over, MA 😉

Well, judging on reactions like this (no pun intended),

... I would say, yeah, I also think that you can't really say that EU isn't gambling.

Don't we all want to hof big?
Isn't this the drive for most?

Let's be real, most here are swirl addicts, not all perhaps, but at least a lot!

And yeah, Evey, you're mostly right, there for sure are other ways to reach success, but that doesn't negate the fact/impression/feeling that EU is a big casino.

It is gambling if you can't cycle enough stabilize return at expected value...

:p

lol, good point.

But, in the that case I would just call it "work" and no longer "gambling".

So, conclusion, either you "work" your ass of here to gain few ped, or you just "gamble" and (hope) to get lucky.

Well... a multiplier of 1,000 on the Sand King would result in a 2,400,000 PED return, wouldn′t it (roughly). :dunno:

I can, and have said that a lot of times: EU IS NOT INHERENTLY GAMBLING, EU is a platform in which gambling is possible, but not every interaction is a vessel for gambling. I don´t gamble in this game (I have in the past, and occasionally I splurge and do stuff for fun, knowing full and well that I likely will end up slowing down my goals significantly while doing it.)

Sure, getting the big hofs is fun. But the only hof i really, truly enjoy is the rare loot one. That is where the potential is.

If anyone out there still regards EU as a pure casino, you should (IMHO) take a step back, scale down a bit, analyze what is going on. Because honestly, the game is very very predictable. Scaling down makes it easier to see.

Also, as a side note: If I was to do what Evey does, I´d consider it gambling. But what Every does, does not ( to me) constitute gambling. There is a difference in our avatars and equipment (and most likely bankroll) that makes up the difference.

years ago new players were taking a 20k or even more like 1 per 1-2week and nobody was happy, now they give one every 1-2 year and same story

I have said it before and i will say it again, the dumbest thing MA has EVER done (castle included) was to introduce EP and with that the EP recycle in to the game. It totally fucks the loot up for so many ppl.

it's not a slot machine when most hof board members (not saying this one in particular) could very well be Mindark or PP avatar under cover...

It is a slot machine if the casino operaters weren't playing the one arm bandits sitting next to the regulars but they are...

David Simmonds has stated that Entropia is not gambling at 14:40 onwards.

Its entropia. We love and hate this at the same time. On a side note I dislike crafting nowadays. At most I would craft due to needing a necessary item or similar.

They did manage to sell the castle (at a loss)

Compet was a disaster and many players got burnt - total write off. So I would rate that as the dumbest thing they did (that can remain on this forum without being deleted. 🤞)

If you would be to describe... life. Would you say it's one big casino? Or would you get a big feeling of casino because one person can win few mil with a lottery ticket, someone can buy some crypto and a few weeks later sell and get a house ... even if thousands of people play lottery very often, even if many are hardcore gamblers, life is not a casino. Some people choose to live like being in one...

lol, good point.

But, in the that case I would just call it "work" and no longer "gambling".

So, conclusion, either you "work" your ass of here to gain few ped, or you just "gamble" and (hope) to get luck

When you get to a point where you know you can get to the same value while doing something fun, but it takes a bit longer... what do you choose? One click (or few) clicks ) hoping for the big win or roll up the sleeves and go for the win directly? This is where the lazy people and less fortunate with the IQ can never be convinced that hard & consistent work gets you great results. See above retard suggestion to stop all work because one person won lottery....

So conclusion, it's a fucking open world, whether you think you can have success or not, you're right! It's all up to you.

I like how you have to start out by qualifying that Amale is a "semi-noob" player. the dude has Tough HP, is in one of the highest skill socs in game, and that qualifies him as a semi-noob?

Stop your ignorance. Just because you don't know him doesn't mean you can make assumptions. He has played since 2006.

Huge GZ to my friend, I couldn't be happy seeing it go to another player.

if you kept reading my problem isn't with "who" hits these ATHs but rather "how" they are hit.....

if crafters can click/cycle 20tt every 4 seconds for TT cost then i want to be able to do the same as a hunter or a miner. give me my TT mod merc and lvl 13 amps plz.

Entropia isn’t gambling to just enough of an extent to satisfy their legal department.
Smart gameplay and skills just better your odds, and dumb gameplay is a nice rake for the house.
Just like counting cards at a casino, this is just skill based gambling.

we're all playing against the same house and gamblers get to cycle hundreds of thousands of ped every week. even if their EV is massively red long term, being able to bet that big and turn over that much ped with little barrier to entry is a bad model imo
