Im pretty sure we won't "see" a ship descending and actually crash. This just seems to be fluff. like how a meteor crashed into hades or something. Just a thingy to explain the change they wanted to make.

Tho if we can see it, and be there, that'd be major league cool.

IIRC we did have some ships animations in the atmosphere before a major update and it lasted for days.

We've also had flocks of birds as animations in the past. Maybe this crash will be 'relived' every hour or something, or on a repeat loop even more often?

Will this mean another huge crater with rotating gravity defying rocks that make you go dizzy if you stare at them long enough.
