Example and Question....Should MA put a warning on the Client Loader in big letters about current scam info? Specifically at this time the "upgrading armour" scam.!

I realize in most cases MA would rather players discover things for themselves, but I dont think serious scams should fall under this catagory.!!

Its all fine and good that they are sending in Mods to combat the problem  , but lets be realistic...they already have all the chat/trade/etc records of what happens and who does it, so what else do they need? Newer players are scammed by this on a daily basis. And this has been going on for awhile now.

i think they should, or at the very least have a scam prevention guide somewhere within easy reach from the client-loader/main PE website that lists the most common scams.
So that new players have a place right there right away to know how to avoid getting ripped off in the most common ways.
like the armor/weapon upgrade scam, the resale of tt items, the skill-less GSI scam and so on.

They'll have to take a more proactive stance on scamming so as to appear that they are a concerned company / entertainment provider that has the customers best interestes at hand. Scamming of all sorts hurts any business and when its online it has a harsher effect on that companies rep, if MA waits to long or doesnt do anything at all it can be the start of a public relations issue if they arent careful.

who voted NO?.....oh and i think its a good idea :)

oh yea and +rep dnt think itll happen but someone has to say it :::)

Shame to all scammers... even IRL

selling Ped TT + 1...
Upgrading armour for 2 ped per piece...
repair you weapon without going back to town...

Just hand over your wallet and I wont shoot you...

Theft is against the law in every county I have ever been to, why does MA continue to let the scammers get away with it. ownership of an item should not be possesion of the same item. there must be a way of getting my bravo / scope/ amp / sight back from the friend who I lend it to and who has not come back. I know she will I just want it to be sooner than later...

Others are not as lucky as I ... I am sure I will get mine back ...

Great idea +Rep

every one coming into pe should be told this..

One of the first things I tell new players I see and disciples is possible scams.. I may not know everything but I tell them ......

also note an few things too:

You can never con (scam) an honest person...

If it seems to good ,, it is!

If you walked into stock brokers office - with the intention of giving him/her $1000 dollars - and a sign was on the desk that said, 'FYI - Last year 1 million dollars was embezzled by members of this firm.'

Would you still give them your money?

MA will not put 'scammer' information on the client loader because it would negatively influence depositers.

hint hint : would also be a very good thing to add to certian forums menu sidebars or headers. :wise:

That is not the same thing. You make it sound like MA is saying that their people are running the listed scams.

Announcements of commonly attempted scams would be more like public service announcements of disreputibal buisnesses listed by the Better Buisness Beuro(sp). They can't always tell you the names but the can let you know what to look out for. For example after severe storms knock down trees some people offer to clean the mess up and repair the damage for cash in advance then leave without doing anything.

Marco recently posted in another thread the MA keep a record of everything.

I find it strange then that when people give them evidence of people out and out lying to scam (the upgrade or repair scams for example) they do nothing. Other scams may be more subtle and difficult to prove as scams rather than poor judgement but this is a clear cut confidence trick - a crime in most legal systems.

At least to cover themselves they should put some effort into making people aware of scams.

If they want to win the confidence of players they should be nailing some people at least and returning goods to the scammed. Account locks before the money can be taken out might put scammers off

Agreed. Pehaps my example was not good. Maybe this one is better.

Do you think a bank would post notice outside of every branch saying, "It is important for you to know that 10,000 banks are robbed every year."

Would you still walk in with your money?

I know that your money is insured. But would you be as willing to walk in those doors?

MA wants people to deposit. They will never put anything on the main page which would make people think twice.

me :tongue2:

even if they put up a list of the latest scams/scammers then ppl would just find new ways to do things. the list could end up getting unmanagable. for example the scammers thread in this forum. its got soo many pages that unless you do a proper search or spend 30 mins to an hour reading it you wont be any wiser to whats going on at the moment.

another good reason (which is a bit similar to what thoreau said) is for totally new players. imagine how the shine would be taken off it all if the first time they load the client loader they see a list of scams/scammers. im pretty sure i would be put off.

my finalist reason is "who decideds whats a scam and whos a scammer and what/who isnt?". theres plenty of he said she said threads in the forum. ok so some scams are blatant but others may be misunderstandings etc. if the info they put in the clientloader isnt uptodate though as their waiting to ensure whether it was a true scam then the data will be pointless. i spose it might be kind of neat to see your name in the client loader "Beware of Tann San, thats one bad-ass player" :D

Yes they should.

IRL, the police pass massages to the press:

Look out for XX persons, looking like "mug shots" who just stole £40 Million from "place" by kidnapping wife and son of manager, using this method...

A bit like this.

Edit.
It has gone from 15, to 25, to 40, and now it seems like £50million....
A lot of peds....

but this little snippet says it all:

"... were arrested in the Maidstone area on Saturday on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery"

how would you like your name associated with some unproven scam? The police dont officially release the names until their positive their the culprit.

Um, I think MA decides that...are you being serious here?

Some people may concider someone a scammer, when someone buys Genetic Skill chips off auction then turn arounds and list them at current Generic buyouts...hopeing to trick someone. Thank goodness MA finally put a stop to that and put Generics in their own listing catagory. So I suppose it is MA that decides what people are doing is right or not. I only use this example for easier understanding since it is something one of your soc mates did very often.

so yes, some are outright FRAUD (armour upgrades) and some are just people trying to trick people, or "misunderstanding" as some seem to prefer.

well yer obviously its always going to be MA who make ultimate decisions. but what will they base those off. you saying that x scammed you?

maybe you sent them a nice screenshot where it appears you were scammed and that person then gets put on the evil scammers list in the CL. but that would be MA acting without looking at the context.

that happened recently where someone got their account locked for swearing at someone when the other person apparantly started it first but chose to take a screenshot where it looks like the locked account person did. clearly that didnt stop MA from locking their account so i dont see why it wouldn't also apply to them putting avatar x's name on the scammers list. and for sure you cant say something like "they can look at the logs to see what happened", you would have to be joking if you did

Like has been stated , theft is illegal in every country, but it happens in every country, I say that MA needs to let it happen but should devise or set up for a profesion for players , the ability to police the game, i feel people should be able to pk anywhere in the game but with a consequence if they do it in any of the ereas other than the already pvp.. murder and theft is a part of life, it should be apart of the game, infact , theft should be a skill.... now so you all will understand I do not like the scammers and feel for those who get scammed,, and I too wish there was a way to get even with them.. I want the scammers and others who prey on the noobs to be brought to justice, but not just giving back the stolen items, more like the theif loses most or all his/her items.. I think it could add anew flare to the game thatmight make it even more fun.. and profitable...

Hmm,There could be several reasons MA doesnt put a anti scamming guide on the site or client loader. The fact that they might be worried that people might not deposit when new people/people discover the harsh reality of PE.I think PE should put a scamming prevention guide or something like that on the website/client loader , cause they will earn more in the long run since people quit from games when they get scammed, and espicially since theres real money involved they should warn people.
Thats my two pecs :twocents:

Well I believe they could take advantage of the new information system and have a message popup when you enter that gives the daily news on the latest scams. I reported a scam once and they said this reflect the real world but if they want to use that arguement then in the real world there are cops and jails for scammers. So it would only make sense since PE reflects real world that scams get banned just as they would if they scammed in the real world.

I think avatars caught scamming (with proof like screenshots) should just be deleted with no refund whatsoever.
And don`t tell me if someone wants to upgrade my armor or sell me a settler armor for tt+5 it's just a misunderstanding ;)
Why leave them alone and just warn people ?
If i was MA i would have one of my employees run around in PE with a newbie avatar, identify the scammers and just delete them...

The idea behind PE is to be as close to real life as possible, from what I understand,.. scamming and theft is a part of life, it has every right to be a part of the game,, but there should be a penalty for those who do it.. MA could set up a policing for everything, they could add one more terminal for reporting scams or theft, make it so the game records and shows your last however many deals with people, so if you get scammed you can file a complaint then be compensated after a formal trial, wether it be by getting the items back plus a little more or whatever.. I think it could make an interesting twist to the game.. and help crack down on scammers,

Yup and just like in real life there is police , aswell as criminals etc. :)

**bump**

especially since there now seems to be a new policy...

"We believe that even though the damage was done by other participants, those affected should receive something for their frustration. "

yep, and like in RL we have a government that can make bad people disapear without a trace.

***bump***

And why can't PE have the same? It would be gret if theft was another skill, sas long as there was a skill for policing.. would be fun

as much as i dont like scams, deleting accounts would do little to stop scamming. A scammer would just maintain a "clean" avatar to channel the armour/items/ped to, while creating a new scammer alt each time one was busted.

MA has the power to prevent scams, thats the solution.

death to all :sniper: scammers
