Sorry to all if this seems a silly question. Although I've heard a little bit about space in Entropia on the open chat here and there, I don't know how you actually get into space. Do you need a purpose built spacecraft and where do you get those?

You can use a sleipnir or the quad, but the Sleipnir is much slower than the quad when in space and distances are pretty vast, so it can take quite a while to get to another planet. Maybe start out with a quick trip to Calypsos asteroids (FOMA and Crystal Palace).
Both vehicles will need to be fitted with a thruster (note they are L items and will need replacing every so often). The thruster is needed for getting into and out of planetary atmosphere.
Oil is needed as the fuel for travel in space and therefore you will need that also, I recommend a minimum of 10 ped of oil, which depending on where you go will last for a few journeys, there is nothing so awkward or embarrassing as running out of fuel in space and having to ask for rescue.

Note much of space is lootable PVP and may be inhabited by pirates, therefore never fly in a straight line to your destination planet, and remember space is 3D, so fly high or low to help evade pirates. Also remember to use the align horizontal function, from action library, once you have achieved preferred elevation (last 3 digits of your pos) Never put this /pos in a space channel or local chat as that would tell pirate where you are, instead use a pm to a friend, or perhaps a soc chat.

Sleipnir are cheaper then a quadwing but also slower to travel whith
So only sleipnirs and quadwings can get you into space, or are there other crafts available?

Lots of useful info here, thanks! So I should zigzag instead of going in a straight line, but this would take longer to get there, right?

Sleipnir + truster is all you need but its very slow

Quad wing + truster goes way fester

Only stackables also there is stuff that is lootable but not stackable , make shure to read the description

Stackables in your Containers located in your inventory are also lootable , example when you put your materials into the quadwing container

Skip flying crazy routes if your empty it just takes you more time to travle, go for a straight line

When you Travle in space you will notice a bump in your Screen that sets you back a littlebit, thats when you cross the Server border

You culd skip the travle time if you log out after crossing the Server border this will force a respawn in the nerest space station thats usualy in the mid of the New Server (if you do it right you skip 50% of time)

In space there are also hunting grunds and a wave spawn Event with Boss , the Boss is hard and requires a mothership or privateer in order to finish him
Buy a kismet light laser if you want to hunt , kosmik horrors got a short range you can hunt them wirhout geting hit if you Fly back while Shooting

If a mob kills you you dont Lose loot

Quest giver for the wave spawn is located @ crystall place

My tip is : buy a quad , truster and kismet and have some funn exploring, Pirates are overrated there are maybe 3 active if it comes up dont forget a repairtool and some weldingwires 10 ped oil will least you a while

Re Vehicles : the only vehicles that can transition from planet to space, when fitted with thruster, are Sleipnirs and Quads and ofc the rather more expensive warp capable quads such as the Equus and Firebird.

Re Lootables : Items which are placed in the inventory tabs 'Materials' and 'Mined Resources' are lootable whether stackable or not. This includes items inside boxes, vases, cases or vehicle inventories, that would normally appear in these tabs, so always double and triple check what you are carrying, and scroll right to the bottom of each tab as sometimes MA slides things down the page.

Re Travel in space: It is not necessary to zig-zag across space. It is however advisable to leave the area at the spacestation with caution in case you are observed by a pirate or their helper. Set off in a direction at variance with your intended destination, then once out of sight you change direction and elevation. Once you have achieved the elevation you require use the 'align horizontal' icon to ensure you do not continue to climb/dive, as space is 3D but in a box, and if you hit top/bottom/sides you will get the message 'Cannot enter deep space' If this happens back off, level out and turn back onto required direction.

and yes as stated above.: don't forget to carry a repair tool RK-0 and at least 5 ped TT of welding wire so you can repair ship if you are blown up by a pirate or a space mob.

Space mobs (yes they are huntable but tough), as you travel more you will encounter these, and most are in specific locations which are known as training grounds, the locations of these will appear on your space map only after first visit to each location. http://kronan-ms.info/space-entities/

Buy Vehicle RK-0 repair tool.
Buy 5k-10k Welding wire.
Buy Quad-Wing (they are cheap right now and faster than a Sleipnir).
Buy about 1k Fuel.
Put 1k Fuel into Quad.
Buy "Space Thruster".
Put Space Thruster on Quad. (Much the same as putting an Armor Plate on armor, drag and drop).
Right click on Quad.
Open Vehicle Inventory. (This has to be EMPTY or you can't go into space. It stops you accidently flying into space with tons of loot in your Vehicle/Container).
Check your Materials and Mined Resources/Ore tabs. (These two areas need to be empty as this is the stuff that will be transferred to a Pirates inventory if they kill you).
Put other containers/Vehicles into Storage.
***Make sure you don't have containers with any Material or Mined Resources in carried containers... OR "SOME" PILLS in containers or on you. This goes for shrapnel too but not ammo. So theoretically you can take shrapnel and convert it before you die, but the way you will be flapping about as you got shot makes it inadvisable.***
Go outside.
Spawn Quad.
Enter Quad.
Fly Directly up.
After a while (just keep going up) you will get a prompt asking you if you want to go into space.
Click yes.
You will spawn in space.
Stay close to the Space Station (Long thin thing). As long as you remain pretty close to it you cannot be shot as it is a safe zone.
(If you leave this area and enter the PVP zone and then return, there will be a cooldown between PVP and being safe. You CAN be shot while in this state).
Fly towards the long thin thing and in the middle you will see what looks like a door(Kind of Hexagonal thing)..
Fly at the door. (It takes a while sometimes for it to pick you up so go out and come back in).
You will be transported into the Space Station. (The screen will freeze momentarily).
Land Quad.
Exit Quad.
Taunt Pirates.
Re-enter Quad.
Fly Away from the area with the Teleporters/Terminals.
The screen will again freeze and you will be transported back outside of the Space Station.
Press "M".
Create a waypoint on one of the 2 small blue circles that are near your small blue circle. (Try pressing the "C" or "A" in the top left of the map).
Fly in a straight line to one of the circles.
Welcome to F.O.M.A./Crystal Palace.
Get shot by Pirate you taunted earlier.
Respawn in one of the space stations.
Spawn blown up Quad.
Equip RK5.
Repair Quad.
Curse at Pirates.

You are now ready for space. See how many of these things you forget in the next few years... One big bit of advice..
If the "Game" won't let you into space, it is probably because...
1. Your SPACE THRUSTER has no tt. (it uses 10 pec for each exit/re-entry).
2. You have items in your Quads' storage space..
99% of the time it won't be the game, although you will still think it is.

Pressing "P" much like the way it does on a planet gives your position.. But the last 3-4 digits are you depth. I belive it ranges from +4k about down to -4k about. You will spawn near to the 0 plane give or take a hundred or three.

Using the "Contacts" tab and selecting "Nearby" will show you who is lurking in a space station area waiting for you to leave.. This stops working when you leave.. Because that just wouldn't be very fair now would it?

If you zoom all the way into being sat in the cockpit, the left hand "Circle" shows your fuel amount "Fuel" and the righthand "Circle" shows the Structural Integrity. So full circles = all full.

Athena Spaceport on Calypso is the best place to enter space from on Calypso. It is very high and requires only a few seconds of flying up before you get the "Travel into space" prompt.

Don't even worry about pirates.

As long as you never fly with loot, have enough oil to account for any setbacks (oil in fuel tanks is safe from pirates), and always have the equipment needed to repair your ship, at most a pirate will take 10 minutes off your day, and you would of gotten a few skills such as Spaceship PIlot, among others. This skill has quite the markup if you were to chip it out.

Yes your ship does decay a little bit, and you will use up a little bit of welding wire, but honestly we are talking about only a few pecs, meanwhile the pirates just spend 5 ped or so to kill you and (as long as you had no loot) got back nothing for his trouble. Who is really the worse one off here?

As long as you don't abuse or complain to your attacker, he most likely will not shoot you down again on that trip, he won't waste another 5 ped on you after knowing that it won't pay off for him. But if you tick him off he might just camp your respawn for fun and ruin your night. Be nice.

This is great :) I love the step by step guide!

Just a couple of things I would add. Check that you have space and your destination fully downloaded before you set off. Map the align horizontal button, as space is a box and you want to be sure you are flying straight. Also check out the space maps - https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/forum/index.php?threads/space-mob-locations.234068/

OK. so sleipnir or quad it is then, thankyou. And I'll make sure to put anything lootable is psu, although I'm not planning to go into space right now, maybe a weeks time or so.

I read every line :) Athena Spaceport sounds right. I could TP there and then take a televator to the top of one of those dome topped towers and lift-off from there.

I only thought I should zigzag as someone said I shouldn't go in a straight line... I'll def remember to get a vrk and welding wire. Does it matter which vrk or will any do? What about weapons, mining eqpmt, attachments? Are they lootable, because in some pvp areas on caly they're not.
Weapons, tools, PED, Blueprints, Armor, etc are all safe.

For it to be lootable, it must meet both of the following criteria.
1. Occupy the Materials, or Mined Resource tab.
2. Be a tradeable item.

If you are unsure on if it is lootable or not. bring up the info screen, on the first page, it will say "Warning: This item can be looted in PVP areas!" If it doesnt say that, you are good.

As Granny said before, check your vehicles cargo hold for any loot you may of put in there, that can still be looted as normal if it meets the aforementioned conditions. You cant enter space with anything in the cargo hold of your active vehicle, but any vehicles in your inventory can have items in them, so be careful.

Does it matter which vrk or will any do? What about weapons, mining eqpmt, attachments? Are they lootable, because in some pvp areas on caly they're not.
Only items in Materials and Mined resources tabs (or that normally belong there) can be looted, so tools, weapons and Armour, vehicles tec cannot be looted. The only exception to this rule is oil, which if in a fuel tank becomes non-lootable.
RK repair tools : always choose one where the number matches or is lower than your skills in Vehicle repair, as that number indicates the level at which you can start to use it in SIB

That was how to perfectly fly your Quad Wing into space.

Pirates are out there but they are not the main problem. Space mobs are as they can damage your ship. Don't fly in the middle of a 'training ground' if you can help it. Luckily they stay inside of their little spawn bubbles most of the time if they aren't chewing on your tail.

There's a pretty good space map over at https://space.entropialink.com/

In a quad it takes about 20 or 25 minutes or so to straight shot from Calypso to Arkadia or so. There are some oddities in the map. For instance to get to Toulan you have to fly straight north of the space base even though it looks otherwise. Monria is the only 'planet' (moon) that won't incur thruster decay costs since you can tp back up from the moon for free. Lucklily planet atmosphere entry cost got removed a while ago. If you go planet hopping around Christmas time to get all the 'free' gifts planet partners give out be sure to have plenty of fuel and repair tools. Also I'd suggest buying at least one estate before doing that much. Traditionally the gift rule is something like one gift for everyone, a second for those that deposited over a certain amount since the beginning of time, and the third for those that own estate.

It's fine to fly straight if you avoid the mob spawns. Zig zag around them. In all my years of hopping between planets I think pirates only hit me 3 times all together, and I wasn't carrying loot any of those times. Also it was mainly my fault for laggy internet or distractions in real world at the times that happened.

if you hire a mothership the pilot can beam you up like star trek sort of.

If you fly to foma it's 'up' a bit on the z axis from Calypso Space Station. Similarly Crystal Palace is 'down' a bit on the Z axis. Both are very close to space station though so you should be able to get inside them fairly easily.

Try to keep 'planet specific' stuff on the planet they belong on. For example the Arkadian Alpha Core Cards have no use outside of Arkadia. Asclarius Power Core has no use outside of Next Island, etc.

Thx, I'll check in auction which vrk I'm skilled enough to use, which will prob be the cheapest or slowest as I have no vehicle repair skills atm.

Thanks for all the useful pointers, and the space map link. Just copied the link into my 'Useful EU Info' doc.

Sorry to all if this seems a silly question. Although I've heard a little bit about space in Entropia on the open chat here and there, I don't know how you actually get into space. Do you need a purpose built spacecraft and where do you get those?
