MA/EU/CE2 in german geek press

Hi,
Does it make sense to start a huge add-campaign in germany for MA? Granted, Leipzig is indead the bulls eye of europe and there are a lot of german speaking ppl in almost all of the neighbouring countries.
Huge Add-campaign? Who asked for it?

But, as you say, Leipzig games convention is the game convention for at least the German speaking countries, and not getting any mentioning in the vast amount of reports from there must have been quite hard work.

Dunno if you ever visited, but as on all of these more important fairs there's a whole lot of media ppl running all over the place, searching desperately for something to report about - usually it doesn't need more to get some mentioning in the media but to have a booth not completely hidden, and not running away in panic if a microphone or a camera enters the horizon ...

MA had some interesting things to brawl with - one of the very few RCE's, the CryEngine2 upcoming, quite some insaniacs like our big investors - this should be stuff enough to get swarmed by reporters!

I have done quite some trade fairs for customers with way less interesting products, and it was very easy to get some attention from the media. Completely for free, not a Cent spent more then booth fees!

The fact that MA wasn't mentioned at all during LGC can only mean they did want it this way. And my question is "Why doesn't want MA new participants?". Not more, not less.

[...] + especially in bavaria, you have bavarian rules for bavarians, never forget that. Did you ever asked the question whats needed for a nonbavarian-german to become bavarian + what the advantage to be one in bavaria? Go check that out.
I am a born Bavarian (Munich), and during the last 15 years I have lived quite some time of my life in rural areas of Baden-Wuerttemberg (at the edge of the known word, with unemployment rates of over 30%), and NRW (Sauerland, not rich, too). I have also spent a lot of time in Portugal, Russia & Czechia.

It is not of my knowledge that there are any special rules for Bavarians, and that being a Bavarian would give you any advantages there - after all, Bavarians are a minority in at least Munich, already ... So what?
And you cannot "become Bavarian" - how would you do? You are, or you aren't. How could I "become" Saxon? No chance in hell.

But it doesn't matter anyway, there's yet a considerable majority of not-Bavarians in any of the major Bavarian industrial centers. The problem to get there is just getting a job there first, then being able to pay the insane costs of housing - every German & its Grandma, dog & bird wants to live in Munich, many are able to pay the high rents, so many Munich ppl are forced to move to the more remote areas.

But lemme tell you: In any area of Germany I have ever lived there's still ways more money to spent compared to Portugal, Russia & Czechia. But even there there's a vivid interest in EU, and quite a lot of people from there are actually participating!

I wouldn't agree with WoenK:
Live has not become harder anywhere on this planet, people only tend to whine if they can not afford their third car anymore or are unable to spend as much money as they would like to spend.
Only thing that changed is that people simply are not made happy easily anymore. If you give them a bockwurst for free every day, they will want a Schnitzel for free within a week :D
Live has become very much harder, IMHO, I know a lot of ppl whose income was converted to EUR correctly, but that now suffer that meanwhile the prices are equal in absolute numbers. Example:

A person well known to me had a salary of about 5.5K DM when the change occurred, now she has about 3K EUR. Salary rises have been abysmal in the past years ...
But the price of pork escalope, for instance, was about 5.99 DM before change, now is 6.99 EUR - and very similar for all food!
The price for rent (including the drastically risen prices for energy, water, waste disposal etc.) has nearly doubled since, so she now pays slightly less in EUR then she payed before in DM (in absolute numbers). Similar the prices to maintain a car, for local traffic, for clothes/ shoes, cinema, theater etc.

So actually this person was quite well suited some years ago, had not only one "holiday in the sun" every year, but today it means to save up and to scrooge to be able to afford even a one-week holiday at a cheap Italian beach. Bye-bye, nice places!

But she could easily afford to play EU on a considerable limit - a lot of things formerly possible have become obsolete, out-of-sight, and thus EU would be an alternative ...

Not sure, but we will see the outcome anyway.
:( No disclosure.

Well, you know. Being actually the only Virtual Universe at a consumer electronics fair, the luck does have it quite easy to find you ;)
And for sure it had to be quite some hard work prohibiting to get found by the legions of media vultures hungry to report about such uniqueness ...

MA has always been different and it worked. Sometimes its easier and much more effective to approach the market in a different way than everybody else does.
Right, MA doesn't suffer of declining numbers of try-outs (as their quarterly report states), and they don't suffer from most low rates of participants that actually do a second deposit, and they don't suffer from the emigration from many mid-class and even some high-end participants.

MA is happy to get new business partners that pay huge sums to enter the casino, MA is happy to have an obsolete bank in Atlas (huge initial pay has arrived), MA is more happy to recruit one "big spender" then huge numbers of members of the "unwashed masses" - after all it's less work.

But we, the EU participants, suffer from it - markups for common hunting loots close to making it TT fodder, markups for common mining loots falling more & more, markups for common "advancing participant items" like Plate 5B & EMK 2600 going down the drain - this is no fun.

I cannot help to think that I'm not anymore in MA's plan - after years and years of depositing, and contributing in even my small possibilities to the relative success of this not-a game.

I want new participants, and I need 'em to pay for my loots, and I'm ready to give 'em help on their way, but MA seems to be on a complete other path.

Dunno if it's fun.
