:yay: Germanies linguistic research is finally worth its money!

A jury of german linguists nominated the word "shitstorm" as the anglicism of the year 2011 and explained its importance is so high because theres no direct german translation to it. Öffentliche Entrüstung?
Scheissesturm sounds a bit vulgar and awkward dont you think? Yes! Probably! Thats why the english word shitstorm is a way better way to describe the public outrages on social platforms of all kinds. They also nominated "stresstest" for second rank because hmmm yeah ... well i know the word stresstest since Kit from Knight Rider got destroyed the first time and rebuilt by Devons superdupe crew of car pimpers. Of course the upgrades needed a stresstest. NOTE: I always looked at the car, i never looked at Michael! Stresstest is a very common expression here in germany and its funny in this case because if you ask me its a real stresstest to nominate shitstorm for the anglicism of the year 2011. When i think about the well over three thousand posts i made in this forum i can pat my back because i think i havent raised too many shitstorms, still i stresstested many people many times.

Well another article about german language was one hell of a stresstest for me. But i am over it this is the latest shit! Another german linguist specialist analyzed the slang of kids in Berlin Kreuzberg. She said expressions like "Isch mach Dich Messer!" directy translated its "I make you knife!" ...."Du Muschi!" are useful additions to the german language. This is a stresstest for me because 10 years rulership of Berlins HipHop left an impact crater landscape in the german HipHop scene and obviously in the german linguistic scene as well and ten years before it was like the black hole of german HipHop. "I make you knife... i make you knife, i make you knife, i make you knife...Du Muschi!" is am hookline with a far spread acceptance now! I can´t believe it!

Already too deep in the shitstorm of brainfart rock´n roll my mission is clear! No worries, i unlocked shitstorm gaze back in 2006! Since then i had a shit load of green lines and i am on a good way to get a master in what i am doing.
<--fagt! Yeah shit and i am broke, so i pass my freetime with writing some stuff. How is the weather in EU?

omg do i smell subculture here?

+rep for showing me the sentence of the day!;)

I find this quite interesting for two reasons: (1) I've not come across the expression before, maybe because of age; and (2) the definitions from German and English sources seem to differ.

The Urban Dictionary seems to define this as I (being English) instinctively understand the word: a situation in which there's a huge amount of trouble/disaster flying around, prompted by some specific event. This seems to me to derive directly from the expression 'the shit hits the fan', which has been part of British consciousness for 20 years or more.

However, |'The “Anglicism of the Year” jury defined Shitstorm as a public outcry, primarily on the internet, in which arguments mix with threats and insults to reach a critical mass, forcing a reaction|

but the latter seems to me a somewhat different scenario.

yes indeed "when the shit hits the fan" was my first thought too when ive read this. But i think the change of meaning comes with a change of self-perception or attitude to "Here comes troubles" meaning i twitter my life on twitter or fb and everybody can give an opinion about what i do and how i see and handle things and life is troublesome so am i. The more troublesome the better, it makes me prominent because of the shitstorm. The shitstorm even makes a better person out of me, because the shit is the content of my own confessions made public. I give ppl stuff to talk about, i bring the shit, people bring the storm. A very self-centered way to lessen the bore of paradise just like a new kind of entertainment, so to say a shitstorm entertainment.

So a shitstorm is when the fans [friends, followers] hit the shit ....
