Suggestion: Gold rush Arkadia mining event

Going without sleep is tied to a multitude of chronic health problems once you start getting past the 24 hour mark, and on top of that you'll have a lot of mental health and emotional issues during sleep deprivation. Frustration, irritability, hallucinations, inability to focus, difficulty regulating emotions, and trouble handling basic tasks among many other things. I don't think that encouraging sleep deprivation is a good business model.

You're right that a great solution would be to have a timer that could be started daily and only lasted about 10-14 hours. This gets rid of the physical and mental health risks involved in trying to push yourself to compete through sleep deprivation over 17 days. It would also basically negate the massive advantage people who had multiples playing on one account would have (even though this should be handled by EU staff.)

Something else to add is that the world record for no sleep hovered around 12 days for a long time with a good amount of competition, and only 2 people were ever verified to beat that before Guiness stopped monitoring any record attempts because of health risks.

What I'm trying to say with the last part is, the amount of people who can stay up for 17 days straight throughout the entire world can probably be counted on one hand. So anyone who was mining for 24 hours for the entire event is nearly guaranteed to have had multiple people on their account, which is against EULA and should be grounds for disqualification from the event at a minimum.

Why not just make it mayhem ffa style. Let you trade points and turn them in. It's the person that has the deepest pockets that wins anyways. Why not just let everyone have a piece of the MU.

Mindark has described responsible gaming on their official Entropia Universe site: https://www.entropiauniverse.com/responsiblegaming

Which is something most game companies adress since there are health regulations that they need to follow to make sure their customers stay healthy using their product.

At the same time Mindark release Mayhem events with no time limit token grind with token traders with limited amount of gear. For most (addicted) hardcore gamers this will lead to a 24/7 gameplay race nonstop every mayhem seasons to obtain best gear, pushing their health to the limit over and over again.

Also Mindark approves this Planet Partner 24/7 unlimited mining grind event which is 17 days long and has no point limit. It goes without saying that the top contenders will need to play to their health limit 17 days continously to have a chance to win event prizes.

You can argue that it is every customers responsibility to play healthy, but dangling prizes worth several thousand USD in unlimited time events in front of the customers will invite them to play unhealthy, especially those that have a gaming addiction.

As a company you cannot say that you promote responsible gaming towards your customers while at the same time release events that are designed to play as much as humanly possible to have a chance to win the events and prizes.

These events that Mindark has approved and released is in my perspective as far from responsible gaming as possible and I wish that we get a official response on this matter from the developers themselves. Where they describe how responsible gaming was a factor when creating these events.

Better events can only happen if community and devs work together. Due to the RCE aspect, devs can't make events players propose, they can only propose events from their perspective and collect valuable feedback from the players. Keep the constructive criticism coming and remember it was a very long time since last mining gold rush, a lot of things changed and they cannot actually know how hard players go adn they went hard!

I am happy to see a form of competitive event for elite where dedication can make such a big difference. Hope to see more of these Gold Rush events for all professions and hope devs find a good balance and make it as little gambling / RNG as possible :d

Totally agree, this event should go for a week-two max and with threshold of 10 hours a day limit. We have families, jobs, and need to sleep.

devs want maximum cycle possible no matter the cost who is surprised, last couple years nearly all PP updates have been aimed at getting 24/7 cyclers to their planet

mindarks job is to offer a competitive RCE

not to take care of anyones mental health

if you have addiction issues that make you put your health second to the game, get help.

dont put the blame on mindark

addiction is a real problem and taking accountability is the first step towards a better future

how about you show your avatar name?

last comment on this thread, but heres the definition of addiction according to wikipedia:

Addiction is a neuropsychological disorder characterized by a persistent and intense urge to use a drug or engage in a behaviour that produces natural reward, despite substantial harm and other negative consequences.

so again, if you feel you have to go without sleep, get help. no one's forcing you. not mindark, only you force yourself to compete. just dont if you dont think you can handle it.

competitions like this are supposed to be hardcore point blank. normies are not supposed to be on the same playing field as the most dedicated players.

Imagine playing for that long each day and still not even get a placement, that must be the worst feeling ever.

You can offer competitive RCE events while not making it necessary to go 24/7 in order to "secure" a placement, gold rush hunting is the perfect example.
