I know that we cannot wallpaper our walls or paint our ceilings, but we can actually change our flooring. We can cover it with stuff. What would be an economical way of doing this?
For example, we can use boards, but it would require an awful lot of them, probably more than allowed in an apt. We can use basic filters (cheap!) but again, probably more than allowed in an apt, and not that inspiring. Perhaps large carpets, but that starts to get expensive. Anyone have some other ideas? Basically something large, cheap and reasonably nice looking. If anyone has already done this perhaps a piccy would be in order.

I have seen folks use textures...cheap and can be colorful!

use veneers instead, they're longer, cheaper and better looking imo

...but I still doubt you could do a whole room with them

even if you did there wouldn't be enough points left to put anything else in there

That's the awfull truth, it would just take out too much item points in your apt. :(

I suggest waiting for CE2. We may see many more options for wall and floorcoverings.

My CND apt has a wood floor made of Short Midastree Boards. Id post a pic but im at CP atm.... I think there would be enough item points to cover the majority of the apartment, I just have it partially covered.

Next time I craft some textures I might just try that. I mudt admit I've never seen veneers - anyone have a picture of what the floor looks like after covering it with them?

or lay kaldon or spohur textures on the ground to make it look like a marble floor? that could be nice..

I managed to borrow some wood veneer and textures. The veneer wasn't too bad (the difference between veneer and texture is that the texture is much thicker), and could be used to cover a decent amount of floor. However, I noticed that you cannot put anything on top of the veneer, which makes it less useful as a floor covering. (Well actually, that's not completely true. You can adjust chairs and carpets - and presumably other things - so that they slightly overlap, but it is a tricky business). It could best be used to cover a section of the floor where there was nothing standing.

It works just fine for me.

I lay two veneers then place my furniture on top then lay the rest of the veneers no problem.

It's the same as everything in EU, once you know the way to do it it's easy peasy lemon squeezy

:)

(for non-native-English-speakers: it's a doddle ;) )

That looks nice. I could ask you what the secret is, but I have a sneaking suspicion you'll suggest I play around with it for myself. I think I might just make my own veneer (or buy some) and lay it in a part of my apartment. This brings me back to another question of how to partition an apartment. I still haven't found a satisfactory answer to that.

Thanks to the comments in this thread I have now put down some veneer in my apartment: see the attached photo.

I think that looks great. I love the look of wood in these aprtments for flooring. But then again, we have all these great new testures. It would be cool to see someone use like the Blu texture or the Exi leather texture to floor their apartment ;)

Wow, ideas ideas ideas :yay::D :yay::wtg:

As you may have noticed by the strategic placement of explosives in my apartment, the veneer does not cover the floor completely - we need triangular veneer as well!

Aren't textures the wrong shape? I don't think they are flat are they?

Might be a bit off topic, but why do we have gray ceilings?:scratch2:

Btw, think the "wooden" floors looks great :wtg: , now let's just hope that MA allows that kind of decoration without using up item points in the future VU's.

Ya know, I don't know. I mean they look flat in the info window, but I haven't tried putting them down on the ground or on a floor yet....

Hmmm... I might wanna do that just to see what it looks like.

hmm...

waiting for someone to fill an apartment with sweat bottles. In theory, since it's free, anyone should be able to drop stuff there, I think... Would be neat to have a private apartment that is litterally filled from top to bottom with sweat... with 1 sweat bottles everywhere, stacked about 12-15 high from floor to ceiling. You would have to probably leave it private unless you don't care if anyone takes some... maybe it could become like a special place like a bubble gum tree on some university campuses, where people drop off chewed gum and just keep adding to the pile. Probably would not work in EU with all the greed out there, but you never know.

Textures can be used for flooring just like veneers.

I have basic leather and frigulite as a floor for my DJ decks (well as close to DJ decks as i could create using in game materials anyway :D ).
They cover a fair area but to do a whole apartment would take up a lot of your item points.

TI Bronze 15D if you want to take a look ( i think the rent is payed :scratch2: )

Unfortunately since a couple of VUs back this is no longer "possible". You cannot drop something with a tt of less than 1 pec so if you want to put sweat down you have to but it down in piles of 1000. That's not much of a problem, but it also means that you cannot put fruit down anymore which is rather annoying. A few fruit on a table used to look very nice but now you have to put down 1000 at a time, and the yall have to be of the same sort.
Jod, I'll have to check out your apt, it's not far from mine (I live at TI Gold 4D, but I think my rent has just run out).

Just checked out your apartment jod - I see that the textures look pretty much like floor tiles. If we could fix leather textures to the walls then we could have padded cells ;)

The marble was nice.

This is a total noob question. How do you guys place items on top of textures? I couldn't place a couch on top...

Any help would be great.

I love your guys ideas btw.

I'm not sure about the sofas but the trick with the chairs is to lay 2 textures first then put the chair on the edge and then to lay the final 2 textures and slide them underneath, so with the sofa I expect you'd need to lay 3-4 first (length of sofa??) then the others after dropping it.

It might take you a couple of goes at first but you'll get it.

:)

Some things (like rugs, carpets etc) can be placed over empty spaces so that it looks as though they are on top of textures or veneers. This also decreases the number of items in the apartment. SOmetiems you just have to play around moving things backwards and forwards until it just fits.

Items on floor no problem you just need the right apt. There are a few apts in game that have an unlimited item count. I know of 3 of them and heard rumors of a forth. not sure if they will survive the new VU, Hope they do because they looked cool :)
