Question: is sweating only free source of ingame income?

No, you can also search for fruits/stones/dung thats laying on the ground.
Tho sweating is faster in my opion
Oh and search for free events that give away free stuff, stand around swamp camp and wait until somebody spread some love with giving away stuff

from time to time jobs are offered by players who need promoters or helpers for landareas, events and so. just such jobs are scarce and don't pop up very often. just keep an eye on the "services" or "landareas" subforums. if you have certain skills e.g. graphics, you may offer a service to create banners for ingame/forum ads etc.

I will just add to this too. Not really free, but more fun than sweating is swunting. Swunting is where you hunt and sweat at the same time. If you have the nea's TP you can join a team that sweat a ambu dry and then they kill it. That way you can add some spice to sweating.
If you decide to go searching for dung/stones/fruit make sure you are walking. You will not find them if you are running around. Treasure island is a great place to walk around and look for ...hmmm err shit
