Is there a chat log or something similar, like sticky notes, that you can enable?
 
Yes, there is. Have a look around in options. To enable/disable.
 
Man you been playing for few years in a lie if you understand what i mean lol. For instance i have the private chat log enable and when someone contacts me and I dont remember how i meet them I usually do a search and see when they interacted for first time with me. Chat log is a bit messy and you need a bit stronger programs to open it so i usually delete it after a while.
 
Look for chat.log and private_chat.log in an Entropia Universe folder somewhere. It's pretty useful! I think you may be able to change the location of where it is kept too. Textpad is a good option for opening it if it is mega large. The log tracks most stuff, not just chat. Looks like mine goes back 12 years, seems I was exploring New Switzerland at the time :D

About two years to be exact, not three... How do you enable private chat log? Couldn't find anything in options.

Thanks Wistrel for mentioning chat,log and private_chat.log, tbh I didn't know I had those ;) In case you're wondering btw, reason for my messages in our in-game chit-chat, is I was using it as a kind of log as I couldn't see a way of enabling the in-game chat log.
 
ah you were logging your journey! Got it. That makes more sense now

Right, so I looked again and you're absolutely right in that both the chat log and private chat log can be enabled under INTERFACE in the options panel.

I'm also aware of the 'custom notes' feature in the message centre/panel, but how do you actually enter a custom note?

Try Sublime Text, my private_chat.log alone is over 120mb and ST opens it instantly.
Also heard that Notepad++ is good at opening big files but never tried that one.

Press the orange button in the top left of the message center. "Create new message", it gives you an option of Mail and Sticky Note, you want the latter. Max size of a note is 4096 characters and you can store items' links and clickable coordinates there (note that they occupy much more space in the note than their visible length, so rename your coordinates on the map before copying to save space on comments). Technically there is no limit of how many notes you can have but after 30 or so you stop seeing older ones in the list until you delete something. If you delete a note there is no way to restore it, so be careful with "X" buttons on the notes, can be a tragedy to delete some carefully selected collection (you can copy the raw text of the notes and backup somewhere but links don't carry over).
 
Normally every 6 months I just title my chats from start to end date. it automatically makes a new one

Thanks Svarog. The Sticky Note option more or less does what I was looking for, although imho it's not obvious that you have to click on that orange rectangle/square button. Copying whatever is in a Sticky Note into a text file was fairly easy playing in windowed mode, so very useful.

Notepad++ is good yeh.
