Some sound effects can be found on stock DVD collections, if you own one, you can use them for anything you want. It's very popular and used a lot in free to play games. I think it's called Royalty free or something?

Yup.

I've heard mobs/global trumpets etc on heaps of TV shows and ads.
Fairly recognisable to an Entropian ear.

Same thing happens in films, there's an in joke amongst sound recordists with a particular scream which once you've heard it you can pick it out in lots of films.
