Just a few questions:

Is there any kind of item one can obtain or mark, such that it is reasonable to assume your the ONLY person with it?
For example, can a crafted item have my name permanently on it or something of that sort?

If so, what is the cheapest such item.


Second question: if you drop something on the ground, how long does it remain there?

When you drop something on the ground it disappears when the server resets, so if you go back the next day to where you dropped the item, it'll be gone.

Everything with a Unique tag you can assume you are the only one with it.
Beyond that there are some other item with only one existing copy some of those with ancient in their name will probably stay unique.
There might be other stuff out there but if its useful its expensive for sure and without the unique in the name you can't be sure if there maybe more of it out there in inactive but not yet deleted accounts and will reappear.

Unless you win an event, MA/FPC really likes you or your name happens to coincide with some sort of naming scheme they have for their items you can't get your name on anything.

No idea what is the cheapest unique item probably some low level item with an ancient tag in its name or maybe a piece of clothing.

Actually that isn't the case. If it was then all those decoys placed in the trade center in Port Atlantis wouldn't still be there. And all the stuck pecs from before VU10.
 
the easiest way to get your name on an item is by buying a add screen and put some custom design on it Photoshop your name in a jpg file and upload to the MA server and put it on your screen.
 
I am guessing you want to drop something on the ground and make some sort of a contest to see who finds it. If that is correct you could request for specific coordinates where the item was.

Other than that you can create an event and buy all the tickets. (the tickets will have what you write on the event description (I think, never done that). This could be expensive.

Or craft a repairable, low level, cheap item like a pall stool and repair it to a certain amount of TT that only you know.

With the newly introduce Tier Up systen, all guns or mining gears are unique now

Their tier up rates are all different , much like our DNA profiel.

I havent found any dublicated Tier Up rate for the same type of gear now.

These three items are the only 3 equippable Unique items with the Unique tag so far, accessible by players (contra a few more for MA staff only).

No names on them though. And the first one is the only good one too. The other two have crap eco.

You could always buy a TP, there's naming rights that you can buy for those I believe.
