So why limited items?

Ok when I started, I knew what limited meant, and I didn't like it, it meant constant depo and hoping you made enough to buy it again or depo more money to replace it. Well I said to myself let's try it, and I was right I couldn't even make enough to replace it.. the nice thing about it was all I had to repair was my armor =) so why the limited items, now if you say for the SiB, then I guess that's what it is "for some" and we can't rely on the loot, so how do u even really benefit from using limited items.. I know there's alot of myths but show the proof as far as most us know there is none.. all my weapons are UL.. my pvp guns are Limited. That's it.. id rather spend 1.2k on a good UL weapon then to go threw 1.2k ped keeping and replacing the same L gun... now I understand why some items are limited but with weapons and armor being limited it just looks more and more like a casino.. So someone help me out with this..

Sounds to me that you are saying

"I'm buying a UL gun because I do not have to replace its TT value"

Isn't that exactly what you do when you repair?
See every new (L) gun you buy as a "repair" session... Instead of repair it right after the hunt, you repair it zero to maximum at auction instead ;)... I also "tell myself" that the extra few peds over the TT value (known as MU) is what I pay in order to be at 10/10 hit instead of 5/10 hit or w/e you got atm :) the MU "wasted" when buying a (L) item for my part is "re-won" when hunting with it, as long as the MU isn't fucked up.... Having 10/10 in a weapon really does help :)
On a side note I must say that my globals "feels" bigger when I am using a UL gun that I have not maxed.. I got no proof for it, but it surely feels bigger.. Maybe that's a way for MA to pay back a bit of the "loss" when shooting with a non maxed gun? :D
Oh, and even if the globals are bigger, some hunts doesn't even make it back to "break even" with the bigger globals... Imagine without it! :D

The only downside of a UL non sib gun is that you can't max it until level 100... Which takes a lot of willpower and money to reach...

I personally love the (L) system, but I do regularly use UL guns as well.. They do give some sort of feeling that it is... "my gun" and it will always be there when you need it :)

that's... all I got to say for now, probably pops up a few more ideas right after I hit "Submit Reply" :scratch2:

Just give me a damn opalo sga and a amp and let me go...

So why limited items?

In some cases they are good, or more precisely a must, at least on medium level. To a degree because of the general choke of drops of repairable items that happend back in about 2005 (when people from MA said "All items still drop").

In some cases (L) items, together (maybe) with changed mineral drops, have caused some oldschool items like EK2600 to go down in price to an affordable leve. And polaris armguards probably fill the gap in a few Viking armor sets that lacks the armguards.

In some cases (L) weaons with skill bonus are said to be cheaper to use then the non-sib counterparts. CB19(L)+Beast for instance, or P4(L)+A104 weapon amp (not sure about the amp). And Apis(L) is pretty good if you're lucky enough to have a Dante weapon amp. Also, there are a few melee weapons that's realtively cheap to use (ie markup below 110%).

So, yes, there are useful (L) items; but not in all areas.

And the future on Calypso seems to belong to the people who got decent repairable SIB weapons where they get the best of the both worlds, skill bonus/dmg sec and economy/availibility, and in some areas have oldschool items where there isn't any commonly dropping (L) counterpart. (Check Gauss rifle section in auction and you'll see what I mean. Or, notice the fact there isn't any ES600(L) scanner.)

UL Sib weapons are the way to go. That way you CAN reach the 10/10 and not have to constantly be looking for a crafter or looted L gun that gets you that. Old school stuff that's non-sib and UL is only good in rare usage, for PVP, for a 'danger weapon', etc.

The main disadvantage is that they cost quite a bit, where one part is the minimum TT and the other part is the markup, which keeps them for being a solution for everyone. Compare the purchase price of Sulfury with Determination (was going to check price for sulfury, but unfortunately the seller of the sulfury sword edited away the start bid in his selling thread). I think it was something in the neighbourhood of 20k PED ped in markup, and Repairable plasma handgun (above snable level) TT+20k ped.

Edit: I found collateral value in the renting thread:
Hello. I know how hard to find good UL longblade to skill up with... So I`m offering Genesis Sulfury longblade for rent! It is tier 2.9 atm so U already can use enhancer.

25ped/day for 1-3 days, 20ped/day if u renting it longer then 3 days. Collateral for blade should be tt+20k PED.

Questions, offers post here or PM me.

One of the reasons for (L) items instead of UL items is so that crafters will be able to sell their stuff, else the playerbase would have to grow with the same speed that crafters makes new items or the items the crafters makes would become useless.

The idea would work if there weren't already enough of repairable SIB stuff out there. Consider these player levels:
1) Beginners/TT level users.
2) Low-mid level users (Korss level)
3) High-mid level users, without good SIB weapon
4) High-mid level users, with repairable SIB weapon
5) Ubers, using oldschool weapons like imk2 and mm with good efficiency

Basically, it's only one of the above groups, group (3) who pay the most of the parts. (1) buys from trade terminal, (2) can find cheap weapons at or below korss level, group (3) will have to compete on the market against everyone else and pay 150%-200% for decent shotguns, and groups 4-5 have their weapon problem solved for a long time.

With regen mobs, mid level weapons have more or less been divided into two major classes: One that can kill a a big HP regen mob (think spider young), and the lower class that does too little damage/sec. (If you use a too small weapon on a mob, the risk the mob will give a crit goes up...)

At some point in time group (3) gets tired of being a cashcow for groups 4+5, just depositing, depositing and getting at the most one useful (L) weapon (at their level) once each third month in loot window.
And when it comes to melee, the current melee system doesn't seem to fit well with crafting: It's either high markup (150% for Katana(L)?) , or the weapon has a high TT (probably to be able to reduce the relative cost of the base materials that carries higher markup than residue).

So your UL guns have 0 decay? :D L weapons in most cases are more eco than UL weapons even with the fact that you cannot repair them and you also spend markup for the gun.

damn, 1.2k thats gotta be the best weapon in EU for sure.

Also considering melee weaons?

One weapon that has was about to skyrocket but has gone down is maddox iv+beast. Though it's not the best weapon around considering the SIB options, it's still a fun weapon to have when there is an event and you want to have access to firepower.

And what's the cost of Gauss weapons? Last time I checked, there has all the time only been one Gauss(L) rifle in auction, posted by a reseller at roughly 700%. For the select people who have one, it's probably more fun to play around with the HMVR, and for the Rich to have gotten one of those TT+75k ped repairable crafted SIB rifles.

ofc there are exceptions to my statement, thats why i said "in most cases".

I am not a fan of limited weapons. THe ul sib guns I am though. ALthough the cost is to great for me! I still use the mk2 plus 104 let's me take down mobs I would not be able to. I have been tracking my costs and I can not spot anything different. SO do not get this eco rumor !
