So how do us mid-level players get a faint chance at getting OUR money back exactly?
We do not have 250 HP. We do not own full Shadow/Eon/RJ ME/Whateverbuttfuckingweaponubersmanagetopullatus.
In other words, you are saying: Unless you dropped 20k+ USD into the game, OR started playing from the beginning and didn't deposit a dime, we do not stand a chance?
I REALLY would love to see an official MA answer on this particular question.
We cannot loot adj/imp/mod FAP. Mod MErc, imp mk2, and pretty much all the other uber weapons ceased to drop. We cannot skill as fast, nor exploit the same bugs the current ubers could.
HOW. DO. YOU. EXPECT. US. TO. COMPETE?
While I agree with the points you make, I am curious as to why it took you so long? I saw you mention this in your diary, and I felt for you, but I figured this out in my second month. Maybe you started before the new skilling system and maybe IMk2s were cheaper when you started. But someone has been trying to get an IMk2 for about a month, and his 70k bid wasn't cutting it. Someone else is selling out and stands to make about $100k usd. You know he didn't put that much in. A Modified Fap sold a while ago for 110k peds. I've seen people leave and the price that a full suit of angel will cost. This is not new. It didn't just start with the Land Grab. The skilling system has gotten more difficult. People used to auto-fap for defensive skills, which we can't do. They could buy a Mod Fap for tt+500. You say you could have purchased an IMk2 when you started playing. So, then it would be me talking about people like you who were able to get it for a "reasonable" price 10 months ago.
The best I can do is the best I can do. I made peace with the fact that I will not be uber the way others are: they had advantages that MA has taken from those who came after them.
On the other hand, I saw something that really had an effect on me today: While the ubers were discussing the snafu of the LG with Marco, demanding compensation, killing mid-level players (that were only curious about the game they love and wanted to see what Marco had to say), and threatening to quit, I saw Starman get a global on an Atrox.
We may never be able to compete in Land Grabs, and may not beat these people in a stand-up fight--MA has stacked the cards against us--but that doesn't prevent us from skilling as best as we can and having fun playing the way we want. So long as "the way we want" doesn't include PvP against veterans.
It does seem that MA is working very hard at making this a game for the uber rich--or those who started early enough to gain wealth from this game. However, as people leave, only so many people will be able to buy the uber equipment because it has stopped dropping and only the wealthiest have the kind of disposable income required to pay at least $20,000 usd on a virtual gun.
MA wants their virtual reality to reflect reality and they have succeeded in creating a class system. They have manipulated the markets (by manipulating supply) so that those in the upper classes stay there. It's not just the hunting equipment and defensive skills. With the new skilling system, will there be another Sarah, NZR, or Auktuma? And though these people have paid a lot to gain those skills, have they paid even half as much as someone would have to not to gain the same skills in the same amount of time? I can't say because I don't know how much they've spent, but I doubt it. 3000 clicks on filters gave me 26 engineering lvls. If hunting skills progressed like that, there would be as few hunters as there are crafters.
These are all things I have seen. What amazes me is people leaving because things aren't the way they used to be--bad loots, slow skill progression, etc.. Maybe they're honestly bored with the content (or lack thereof) and taking making it difficult to reach higher levels takes the fun out of it--since it is one of the quantifiably obtainable goals in this virtual universe.
Whatever the reasons, "we" are not "them," and probably never will be. The new "them" will be people who haven't played as long but who have the money to buy the skills and equipment left behind.
This is a reality that many of us who started in November face every time we log in. Maybe those who started in May had it a bit better and the dreams we've never been able to have looked more obtainable back then.
How do they expect you to compete with the veterans? They don't. Welcome to the harsh reality of PE-VU 8.1.3
