Oil Rig - The Newbies Dream

Greetings!

Just curious about this oil rig. I have read about it in quite a few posts and what I gather is:

1. It is usually heald by a soc or similar group of people who defend it by force.

2. Orange jumpsuit = Free rifle practice.

3. Is quite annoying to get to.

4. Many ask about it.


So how is it really, is it a no go usually? Does Soc's "camp" it and collect the rewards themself? What gains are we talking about total for holding that place and grabbing the oil?

I think you forgot the most important poll option:

"Don't do there because I ctd sooner or later every single time due to the PvP bug"

Before anyone says it I'm not just whinging - I'm doing my best to help support track down the exact cause as I hope all PvPers are :wise:
 
I wouldn't bother...I've tried like 100+ attempts and never made it to the rig (In mostly vigi/shogun). The troxies are thick and I suppose when you reach the rig there's always someone to say hello with their DOA :cool:

As for gains isn't it like 500-1500 barrels of crude oil?

I send crash reports all the time and update support case often enough.
Still they don't fix a damn thing about it!

People camp there often to get all the oil and noobs are used for target practice.
Everything you heard is true :D

if tried 3 times to get to the rig i faild the first time but the 2 and 3 time i made it to the rig only prob ther others there 2 and i got shot

so realy hard to get to for a noob
 
On all my trips to the rig I only ever managed to get oil once but I did sweat alot of atrox there :) at one time

Yes the 'RIG' is a great place to hang out. If your wondering what it's like there check out the video theres a link on my signature! Swazer and co are always on hand dishing out Huuuge cuddles and kisses to all that visit! It's a must visit place easily reached from nymphtown , don't mind the troxies they don't usually bother anyone quite pleasant creatures and you can get tons of sweat from them! Get down there today! It's a must visit place for all!! Tons and tons of fun. Usually soc's hold the rig just so newbs can have a visit they really are all a nice bunch! lol

I've just improved my speed, and was thinking an adventure to the rig would be great fun. I don't expect to get oil, but Atrox sweat would be great :)

I've always had a great time when out at the rig. The usual folks there are actually quite pleasant, as long as you don't make a weed of yourself.

Oil? Don't bother. I never even consider grabbing oil when I'm there. It's not mine. I'm not the one wasting my ammo putting high-end troxies and whatnot in graves. I just help out by fapping. It's theirs by might and theirs by right. After that, we get back to bullshitting and having fun.

Sure occasionally, one of them gives me the ole' penetration/burn tickle. When I revive, I have 2 choices:

1. Head back to the rig
2. Head back to Twin

If you don't have a TP chip (as n00bs usually don't) getting back to the rig from the revive is about 10-15 minutes. Heading back to Twin takes about an hour. (Both times assume you avoid being troxie chowder)

Please plan your day accordingly and have fun.
 
The best time, IMO, to go there is from 2am to 5am MA time. Before 2am, there are usually pk happy ubers there who will use you for target practice. After 5am, Liana usually goes there and closes to get oil for crafting. From 2am to 5am there are usually the fewest people, and "usually" very few trox at the rig itself (however there are usually a lot of them just NE of the rig).

Don't try to get to the rig from nymph if you're running, it's almost impossible. Find a way to get to the outpost SW of the rig (run east from twin or swim from troy), then simply run NE and avoid the red dots. If you can afford a lesser tp chip, then getting to the rig is trivial, just three jumps from the SW outpost.

Now, once you manage to get there, say "hi" and don't go any further than the hills surrounding the rig. You can also try standing behind those bunkers so you wont be such an easy target to whoever is at the rig. Unless you're very very lucky, you will usually get pk'd on your first visit there because nobody there will know you. This is where you basically tp or run back, have a pleasant attitude (no whining or cursing the guy out who pk'd you) and try it again.

Most of the time, whoever is at the rig will not keep pking you over and over and over. They may pk you two or three times, but then if you keep going back and have a good attitude then they'll let you stand on the hills, and MAY even invite you down to the rig to grab oil.

There are, obviously, exceptions to this rule. Sometimes people who haven't played the game very long but have uber gear will just keep pk'ing you over and over. In this case it's best to log off and try again in an hour or so because these people usually get bored quickly and leave.

I dont think anyone mentioned not to ask questions, or try to trade anyone it can sometimes get you killed. GL, a smart noob can profit at the rig, or at least when the trox didnt run at you until your body materialzed from tping... not sure if its still this way tho probly got nerfed..
 
I will have to visit the place soon I think. I am counting on beeing cannon fodder for some pvp:ers. but c'est la vie.

Maybe I can convince them that poor Derid :broke: will not disturb them much and only grab a barrel or two here and there. That will prolly bring out the macho cowboy pvp guys tho And they will not like Derid taking oil.

Hello,

I would have liked a combined response - been there a few times and not worth the effort.

You get there in your nice bright orange jammys and it just makes you stand out against the terrain. BLAM - back to the outpost again.

On the possative side - it did give me alot of personal skill (not ava skill) in navigating terrain, avoiding mobs and getting from point a - point b without becomming MOB food too often.

Never even saw a barrel of oil though. Didn't live long enough when I got there.

Well, for the most part I was referring to 1 week old helpless OJ's without a gun and fap. Obviously if there is an actual conflict between two people there then expect endless pk'ing to ensue. ;)

That conflict was solved for me weeks ago, apparently not for the other side :)
 
OO, just make sure that the next event of opening a wormhole for the noobs to the rig is not the same time as the FoF.
I wanna go tooo the rig !!! never been there, never met swazer, snowflake, gimmi or any of the others.

going in with that attitude would get you killed. ;)

There isnt a 'barrel or two here and there'. There's ONE stack of barrels (looks like one barrel) every 20-ish minutes.

Never go to the rig expecting to be able to get oil, unless you've got a big gun and better armor.

The rig....

is a very bi challenge to get to... if the troxies dont eat ya ya gota hide form the pk'ers....

these are my trials and triobulations at the rig....

havnt been able to get more photos ause I keep getting eaten by troxies. If ya come from the twin way (swim from twin to the outpost then run north east) you will see a square mountain this is the best way to go I find... from nymph its full of wya to many troxies... and whilst ya ava is swimming from twin ya can go away from ya comp.
alos ya can climb up the square mountain and it takes awhile for the troxies to get up and eat you.
