Liverpool Meet Up

Hi Hi Hi!!!

Well after the massive success of the London meet-up, it has already got some of us thinking about the next one!!! So this post is really just to generate some interest, see who is wanting to come to the next one etc.

The theory behind having the next meet-up in Liverpool is that this way, many more of the northern england and Scottish players will be able to make it this time (absolutely nothing to do with the fact I live here now and the underground in london scared the bejeezus outta me after Grr had gone and we had to fend for ourselves )

So the main purpose of this post is not to make any concrete arrangements but just to see if anyone is interested, take some suggestions, and generally see if you guys are up for it! I am thinking the first or second week in June at the latest and I dont mind orgainising stuff, finding cheap hotels, spanky events etc!! Just lemme know if you are interested!!!

Woot! I am getting excited at the thought of another one already!!!


UPDATE - The date all this takes place will be Saturday May the 19th - and for all the peeps coming to the theme park then also Sunday the 20th!!

Ok, here is the plan

Saturday 19th May 2007

1pm(ish) - Meet for an alcohol fuelled meet and greet to get to know everyone and go thru the strange and bizarre experience of introducing yourself as your avatar. We are meeting at the Crown Pub which is right next to liverpool Lime Street Station On the Corner

4pm - Laserquest/Bowling/Sightseeing with moonfish! - O have the names of the 14 peeps who are in the laserquest team! It will cost £10 + maybe a few quid for the transport there! It will be one game of quaser then 1 game of bowling! There is also a fully licenced bar and arcade there so plenty to do! The folk that dont wanna come along moonfish is gonna show you the sights of the pool!

Then time for a break for some scran and a clean up

9/9.30(ish) Head to Matthew Street for a bar/club crawl (we can either stay in one bar or pop into a few up the strip - for all you beatles fans - The Cavern Club is also on this strip so i will find out what band is playing that night and post some info later!


Sunday 20th May (for those staying)

10am(ish) - Meet somewhere for breakfast/lunch and as there will only be a few of us I was thinking of getting the train thru to Blackpool for the day! Plenty to do there and if the hangover aint too bad then the pleasure beach will be open for all the thrill seekers! Think alot of ppl will be leaving on the sunday morning but I dont mind what we do so if you wanna go, just say!

I think the next major one will be in a country other than England. Liverpool isn't really a capital and the airport there is not as well connected and London's Five (Heathrow/Gatwick/Stanstead/Luton/City).

It would be nice to see one in Sweden or some other European country.

wudnt mind a trip to prague, pretty central but i wonder if many people know it

Well either way I'm only in this area of theplanet until the end of June, which time I will have to try and get some of our American folks together instead!

Im up for going for another meeting, don't mind....err somewhere relatively affordable? How much does it cost to sweden?

ooooh, prague, cheap drink and the flights aint to bad either! that would be pretty cool! Yeah, Liverpool/Manchester area was just a suggestion - I kinda know that it wouldnt be as big as the london one, i was just thinking about my fellow scots! I have met so many ingame but because of the distance they couldnt make it to london! If we are talking capital Cities then Edinburgh?? I just feel like there are so many more peeps from the UK who would love a chance to have a meet closer to home then maybe have another big one the same time next year?? So this would be like a sub-meeting!

Oh and the airport thing! Liverpools John Lennon airport has connections to most european cities and if you cant get one to liverpool, manchester is less than an hour away, so it is easy accessable!

i would love to join again, and hopefully be able to stay abit longer.
but first i have to save up some peds >.<

im not so sure about liverpool tho. i have never been there, and its not the easiest place to get to. what do people do in liverpool.... besides football?

Paris is a bad idea imo, Way to expensive, and french often dont speak english.... Berlin isnt really exciting either imo.

Well I love the idea of a Liverpool Meet up - European City of Culture 2008 (I think)...

Well Liverpool is full on & a very exciting place these days.... Trains & planes are no problem really. The city is all in Walking distance & not expensive at all.

Its possible that alot of European meet up's can be expensive for us all, Prague is well nice, Liverpool is a bit differnt alot more going on than Prague, although I do love Prague, wonderful Organic beers there. The people there too, are wonderful...

Wasn't the titanic built in liverpool, there is a monument on the Mersey - & yes it did sink, but what a film that was, 3 hours long, Jesus my bum was numb after that film

Being in the UK, for me I carnt afford to go to Europe, London was expensive enough, I broke the bank...

Maybe an option, for an annual meet up in Europe or another place & a UK meet up as well, just an idea,

About travelling to Liverpool:

For me it would be more expencive to fly there then to London. Usually you can get pretty cheap prices to London like most of the big world cities, campaigns and such, more departures so more prices to choose from.

To liverpool... well I checked, and SAS (Scandinavian Airline Something) which is the largest airline in Scandinavia I think, doesnt even fly to Liverpool. They do to Manchester tho.
The ideal would be to cut the travel as short as possible, having as few stops as possible. Direct flights are the best.

hmm liverpool for a meet up, interesting, if i could get the money togetehr id be up for that, just missed out on the london meet up due to unforeseen circumstances...

i hear liverpool is a good night out and its even better cos of the loud music (dont have to listen to the accent ) lol, spent new years eve in sum club in chester, was quite good

Well sorry I didn't made it to the first But, if I may be so bold to comment anyways: Liverpool indeed doesn't sound like a good idea as it's "hard" to reach with a direct connection. Think these meetings should be pretty much limited to capitols.

Anyoo, Prague is really cool, been there a few times, everything is cheap there (though like 5 times more expensive than 6 years ago or so), but it's also pretty much out of the way for everybody In either case, I ofcourse would vote Amsterdam, for obviously selfish reasons It has a decent enough airport, it's pretty central too. Scandinavia sounds good too... maybe it's a plan to crash MindArk's place (no clue if thats close to Stockholm). I'd also be against Paris for it being ludicrously expensive and ze French don't speak English, and if they do, pretend not to.

Maybe a poll with European capitols?

LOL, I am glad someone gets what i am trying to say. This isnt the next big meet up - the annual one is a spiffing idea - this is just something that isnt in the south of england for all out more central and northern players who couldnt attend the london one. Liverpool is doing big things atm because of the "City of Culture" thingy going on and like people have said it is a FANTASIC night out! There are plenty of daytime bars for the original meet and greet - then when it comes to the night time shindig there is a whole strip of bars to keep us occupied so there are about 15 - 20 clubs all next door to each other!!!

As for the travelling issues - there are several companies that do flights into liverpool John Lennon - but if not flights into Manchester would be just as good as there is a train directly from Manchester airport to Liverpool Lime street and it only takes 45mins so its not a bum numbing journey! )

Buuuuut....at the end of the day, if liverpool is getting the shove - there is also Edinburgh. More expensive - and as confusing as london when it comes to hotels but it it up to the majority i guess

Im in london for 2 weeks in may, and then I got to stockholm, spain and paris

Since I live in Australia this is basically my only oportunity to go to a meet up, so would be super sweet if we did something around that time

well dude - if we get enuf peeps to come along - and u give me the exact dates you will be in the UK, then I dont see why we couldnt do it in May as long as everyone else is cool with it!!!

On another note i have just had a spiffing idea - In London there were loadsa folk who stayed for the sunday aswell and were kinda at a loss of things to do - if this does go ahead, and there are people doing that again, i am thinking a little trip to Alton Towers (theme park for you non-brits) might be called for on the sunday?? It takes 90 mins to get there from Liverpool - but it is totally worth the journey!!!!

again, if you are intrested PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP - If nothing else - Moonfish needs more dancing buddies!!! He is like the duracell bunny so we need plenty of people to work the dancing on a shift basis so he is not alone!

hell yeah...alton towers, only ride i aint been on is air and thats cos its closed everytime ...rita the queen of speed, oblivion - dont look down and nemesis, muwahahaha gotta love that...i was planning on going down that ish time then anyway so im real up for it...do what i did last time, big nite out in newcastle on the friday, 1 hours kip then leave at 6am on sat morn, 4 ish hours drive down, alton towers daytime, then the pool for the nite, sounds good i think (when i did it last year wen tto manchester for the sat nite)...anyway went a bit crazy there i did but yeh u mite of guessed im up for that

Skammy - I had a quick peek at some flights and it looks like there are more regular flights to manchester thats true - but a plus point is that if you google "cheap flights from Norway to Manchester" you will get a link - I looked at flights in mid may for arguements sake and saw them for £10!!!! I may well come to norway later if thats the case!

Also Total twist - looked at some flights from Belfast too (for a totally unrelated reason) and there are return flights with easy jet from £3.99 each way, so woot!!!

Ok, I have been doing some snooping around on the net to see if we can make this meet-up as cost efficiant as possible (coz i spend a bloody fortune in London ) Now - as things stand I have looked at a few hotels, and the best priced one I have found is the Travelodge in the city centre. It is 10 minutes walk from the main station where you will be arriving if you are travelling by train and it cost £65 per room - BUT as the fee is per room and not per person, and you are all up for bunking in (max 3 to a room) with soc mates and/or friends then thats only just over £20 per person per night! So if you wanna check it out just log on to www.travelodge.co.uk and type in Liverpool Central in the "find a hotel" section. If i find some more spanky deals I will let you all know!

I will attend this for sure if it is in Liverpool.

Btw, for some reason scottish people like to fight with me.....

I arrive in London the 12th may and leave the 26th of may, so sometime in the middle would be my preference
