A couple of days ago, I was privileged to have Ido Starlit Sunrider of Quantum Interstellar invite me personally to the grand opening of his new “Gallery of Contemporary Arts.”
[wrap=left]https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/gallery/files/6/7/2/5/minipic4.gif[/wrap]Ido was one of the first to arrive on Calypso, just after the robot wars. Starting out as a trader, he soon recognized a gap in the market and became a pioneer in the then new profession of beauty, quickly rising to be one of the top skilled beauticians on Calypso (inspiring me in the process). Today, Ido becomes a pioneer in yet another new profession open to colonists of Calypso, that of gallery owner.

Inspired by the works of Japanese artist Masamune Shirow, and sketching by hand, Ido has taken advantage of the new Player Content screens to upload his own artwork for display to the public.

The gallery can be found in Billton Tower 3 Apartment 5G. Ido can be contacted here on the forum via private message for those interested in purchasing his artwork. However, on opening night, he remained focused on the art rather than a fast sale, despite several requests to purchase his work. He explained that a lack of new art appearing in the City of Culture at New Oxford inspired him to open his own gallery. Initially showing his own work, Ido plans to showcase all the different and diverse artists on the planet by displaying one new artist a month, and hopes to bring the culture back to our city and create a true gallery of the people in the process. Judging by the packed opening night, he can't possibly fail in this endeavor!

A Packed opening night!

Ido does not want to restrict the people to paintings and drawings only, and convinced there is an artist in everyone of us, Ido hopes to bring sculptures and other art forms for display in the gallery. “I want to encourage your creativity” he explains.

After seeing the beautiful sketches, I for one feel very inspired, and will break out the crayons with my daughter as soon as she gets back from nursery. If Ido can inspire me to draw, I am sure we can expect to see some more artists very soon!

Awesome + rep (also to Ido if I find him someplace in the forum).

Thats GREAT artwork.

Will only one sketch be used only once (as in tatoos), making my picture totally unique - if I buy one?

Im getting a lot of artists asking me about diplaying their art :) it is very exciting but of course all cant fit at once in the gallery :)

For this reason i decided to split the gallery into sections for artists to be able to reserve periods of time for displaying their art on :)

For now i think the callendar will be split into 2 week periods thursday oppenings and possible 2 weeks later tuesdays or wednesdays evening closings with art auction if that is the authors desire :) then another opeining the following thursday with maybe wednesday night open for the author to set up their art :)

the 3 areas are ... small area left of entrance , center room right now partialy covered with permanent exibition, and a big room with the large window :)

the areas are split into half... depending on the ammount of works the author wishes to display he can take one or 2 halfs :)

Right now the big room is reserved for a 2 week exibition from 15-28.03 :) ... if an artist wishes to make a reservation for one ofthe areas he is expected to pm/email/chat or contact me in some way ... then he has 1 week to prepare and present the collection of works he would like to display... then i will be able to judge if they need a whole room or just a half and if the art will look good in the area they intend to display it in :)

i need to find a good way to keep up a callendar of reservations online

Best Regards
Ido Sunrider

WOOT, where do we visit?!

The gallery is located at Billton Tower 3, 5G

sorry for the late anwser :)

The art displayed currently at the gallery is not limited. However i plan to create pieces limited in quantity and possibly also unique meaning only 1 such item exists...

I already recived requests to draw unique art on demand and of course i will create only 1 copy of such art...

unique and limited art is coming soon :) seing such a great response from the community makes me realy confident about the whole idea :) thank you all for the support and hope to see you at the gallery often for numerous events to come :)

My father is a very talented artist...Perhaps I will have him draw up some beautifully detailed PE related works...

+rep to you both. Nice work reporting Pinky, and great pics Ido. :)
Good luck with the gallery and future sales. :wtg:

Looks beatifull!.

I was going to come. but as preparetions to the Big WOF (hunt for your country) was starting same time at evening. i had to go for that..

I can anyhow promise i'll come by when your online so we can chat ;). got some ideas and such you might wanna hear ido.

Nice to see this creative side of you! ;)

A word of caution to budding artists...

Will only one sketch be used only once (as in tatoos), making my picture totally unique - if I buy one?

The only problem is, that currently, whenever an avatar views any piece of participant created content MindArk saves a copy of the original image to their hard drive.

I suppose that this is a future issue that the artists will have to negotiate with MA on, and discuss how best to protect their copyright and intellectual property rights (assuming that MindArk are open to such a discussion).

EDIT: It now appears that MA have now provided a response to this issue:

Hi,

We can understand this is a sensitive matter and we will try to address the different aspects of the problem.

Unfortunately, image encryption is not a feasible option, as graphic cards cannot display encrypted images, meaning any encrypted image would have to be unencrypted before being displayed, thereby making the whole effort meaningless.

While images are stored on participants’ computers, the exclusive rights of the material are protected within the Entropia Universe by the EULA §9 which prohibits participants from displaying copyrighted materials or materials created by other participants. This allows MindArk to effectively protect the exclusive rights of your materials within the Entropia Universe.

As we are all aware, the internet has given rise to serious copyright and distribution difficulties which are being wrestled with by many large corporations and we will naturally follow all developments closely.

We hope that this helps in clarifying our position.

Regards,
Entropia Support

Well done!

Congratulations Ido and +rep for that!

You might not have been the first one to have that idea ;) but you were the first one to pull it through. Great!

Concerning the copyright problems: maybe the only feasible solution would be if the artworks were not "content" of a frame -- at the moment the pictures are still named after the frame they are put into -- but "objects" with the name of the painting and the artist put on them (as MA did it with Karadi's or Kostabi's painting in the New Oxford Gallery). Only then you could restrict the number of copies available and could have some "proof" of authorship.

I am afraid MA has other priorities, and it would be a lot of work to provide budding artists with that opportunity. As it stands MA probably thought of "Signs" rather than of artworks. Let's try to make the best of that situation anyway. Go on with your work Dido! Others will certainly follow :)

fantastic work Ido....

you are the first to have taken the opportunities given to us with the PC displays and made it a reality by uploading your hand drawings.

your work will help developing the bridge opened by MA to bring RL member's creativity into the universe.

uploading RL drawings or videos is a first step, +rep to MA.

+rep to you Ido for your work....

cant wait to see more of it ;)

Is just me or something is wrong? How can someone use Masamune Shirow work for personal PR and even fpr some PED? Are the copyrights suspended in EU? :scratch2:

Well hopefully Ido will present us with more original artwork next time, but an artist has to start someplace :)

Great place Ido, love the courtains, but it felt a bit too dark...

hmm i did not scan the images from masmunes work but i was inspired to draw them by his pieces .. i mention that everywhere possible that the characters are taken from masamune shirows works and i belive he deserves the credit for the beautifull drawings ...

i however did drew these myself with my own hands i guess u could call them my interpretations or variations on the art of masamune shirow ... i did run my works with MA (sent all 4 pics to them for review) and mentioned that they are inspired by Masamune Shirows work... i asked if the pictures are in anyway innapropriate as content for EU... i got their ok ...

i did not plan to make this into some PR run to get famous or anything i just wanted to share my drawings with the rest of the comunity ...

I have little real knowlege of the matter of copyrights of art and such since my background is computer science related and i never studied law... i do mention the pieces are inspired by Masamune Shirow... and when i runed it with MA support and they said its ok to add them to the game i was feeling ok with it as they state in their eula they do not allow copyright infricting material into PC system ...

Im hoping everything is ok or am i missing something realy important ?

Wonderful!

I am so happy to see there are other artists skilling on Calypso! Congratulations Ido and I hope it is a true success.

Ido has reproduced a known artist's work, but surely without the intention of breaching any copyright laws, and merely because he likes that artist's work.

he has made his versions of those drawings as he clearly stated on a display in his flat next to the drawings during the vernissage and never said it was his creations, but he is very capable of making his own art work, i am sure you would agree...

it was an experience he made and has found out that many of us liked his work.

so i think its his talent we should congratulate and give him the ambition to develop it and personaly hope to see more work of his own creation spread within EU, as well as work of other artists who play EU.

maybe Toro you have photos you have taken which are beautiful and could upload and share or sell in EU, i know i have some lying around.

it is true we are not all born lawyers but i believe we can all make some art either with our own hands which only a few are capable or by using our cameras or computers...and make money from it.
