im glad the link was removed before i found this.

but now im gonna gofind the benifets of a goldcard just incase

And of course ban the scammers account.

Its realy sad someone would do that. Whats even worst is that some of supposed good anti virus programs didnt pick it up, unless some of you are lax on updating. I use AVG free and I'm so confident with it, I downloaded it knowing it had something in it, just to see what was in it. AVG picked it up instantly and posted it to be "Trojan Horse PSW.Bankers.25.S".

Because Norton is worthless. Get a real antivirus like AVG.
 
I work as a Security Consultant for an Investment Bank and from a legal standpoint this guy has broken the law (computer misuse act 1990), by bypassing security to gain unauthorised access to your machines, and as he has stolen goods albeit virtual they do have a a real life value. At the very least MA should report this to his ISP, get his internet account blocked. Further action could be for them to ask for the crime to be reported to the police or something like the High Tech crimes unit (which we have in the uk.) If a lot of people have been caught out by this, this guy could have stolen thousands of dollars worth of stuff. MB can provide MA with the time when the post was posted on this site and those that were scammed could hopefully get their things back, that went missing from that time.

Hope it all works out for those that got scammed

Simply copy the txt below into a notepad and save it as "something.pem" and place it in the neomap folder... then open the file and you have some mining locations:

I very much hope that in this instance at the very least MA are able to block this scammer's account, return all the items that were stolen and prevent him from withdrawing money from the game so that he doesn't benefit financially.

Then set the computer detectives on him and HUNT HIM DOWN!!!

People are now getting put in prison for computer crimes and that is where this guy deserves to end up.

Yeah I agree, this is a serious crime that contains stealing items that are worth real money, he deserves jail thats for sure.

This person should go to prison and their should be civil penalties involved too.


I would presue this If I was the victim, and see if you can sue him for damages and pain and suffering. I would also press criminal charges against him. (I can only base this on us law, a lot has to do where this person lives) but I would contact the proper law enforcement authorities regarding this)

Its been over 16 hours since I posted a support case to lock down my account, change the password, and such. Haven't heard a word. Just tried logging in and it works fine. :mad:

Is there a way to change the password as I haven't found one?

I've got about 100PED that could still come in from open auctions that I was concerned about along with my skills disappearing. Oh well. Guess they might go the way of all of my other stuff.

FYI - I was running NAV 2005 completely up-to-date. It didn't catch it. I'm the moron though for running it. I've never run downloaded files, but this forum has been such a great help I've let down my guard.

I'll let you know the outcome, but doesn't look good. Really shocked that MA hasn't responded yet.

Moose, Im really sad to hear that! I hope MA shows some balls on this and investigates. You know that with as much money as is involved in PE that they log all kinds of stuff. Chats even I would guess. It was great fun hunting with you ingame and I hope we will still be able to do that. Hope you decide to keep playing... although maybe this time with a gold card or something. Best of luck, this is bad news for all of us!

Falls under Homeland Security, and terroristic acts to hack someones home computer.

And its only a game.. but it isnt..

Just so happy I got the gold member card, I feel so much more safe now, than before - and with this incident I really understand why I wasted $20 on it, afterall I have way over $4500 in stuff in my account. So...
 
Ursarkar, the reason why we fell for it in the first place is "respectable" antivirus software being full of holes and at the beginning of this that guy didn't have a negative reputation and none of us did bother looking for him ingame BEFORE running the virus.. hell it was too late in the evening and personally i was about to go to bed.. well the chain of stupid coincidences is as long as this thread i'm afraid and it's basically our own fault..

Von, gratz on finding the keylogger but i would still double check you have cleared everything, and Carebear, thanks for the info on those spyware programs. Will check that out myself.

The Thief had 1 post, the thread was giving of bad vibes straight away with the way the post was written and it just shows how greedy and stupid people can be. Ok, we all know there are some high end ores out there, but do you really think that someone who really knew where these ores were, would actually give you the locations?

Think of it like Gold Digging. I have found a stack load of gold, and I'm going to give you the location to my fortune making area. You come along and rob me of my gold. Hence, the reason I wouldn't tell anyone where my pot of gold is.

Wake up people. This is a hard lesson for all you people who fell for this and got stung. You can't whine about losing your stuff, and then complain that you are not going to play anymore or that MA are not going to help you in returning your stuff. MA have said on more than one occasion to be careful and there are plenty of threads about such things here on EF.

Just don't download stuff from people you don't know. Ok, there could be some unscrupulous people that even have a high post count and feedback rating, but this is more than highly unlikely unless there account has been hacked here on EF.

I just hope you all get your machines sorted and keylogger free.

Yes, the free version removes all the bad stuff. But to be safe, I also did a search in my registry (via regedit) for "bpk" and found a couple things... deleted them of course. I also downloaded a couple monitor programs to check processes and hard drive access.

I also had enough luck to outweigh my stupidity since i installed it on a computer i don't run pe on.

But do all those who posted "your stupid for downloading this" posts... is that really helpfull? is it providing anything for readers? What, are you trying to just feed your self pride/ego? Come on... at least be helpfull
