Oh my god! 2 people out of 700,000 claimed account holders. Give me a break.

When they first started posting here for subjects for this story, we all said it was a bad idea. Now that they've done it, all we can do is wait for it to come back and bite them in the ass, and us along with them.

btw, did I miss-read something, or did both of these players start more than 5 years ago? Wasn't that pre-gold, or shortly thereafter?

Nice articles.

However, it's so disgusting to see that MA is still advertising ATM card as functioning, when it's not true for almost 2 years now...

What difference does it make :scratch2: There are plenty of others making +++ each day that don't get reported.
The articles are published and 'fresh' (read: "of consumer interest") because the two in question were in school when they started.... there aren't that many <18's in entropia, if you hadn't noticed

Entropia is building the first stage of the awesome Beijing Recreation District which alone will be capable of hosting more than 15m avatars

:jawdrop:

theres not gonna be anything but green dots in the whole game if 15m people hunt at the same time

...and for every one of those, I would be willing to bet that there are hundreds or thousands who buy into the "earn big money" hype, spend a lot of time and money, and never see a thing. What do you think the news stories will look like when they start interviewing them? The media loves a good expose story, even a small one.

Do you honestly believe it is a good idea to market Entropia as a way for kids to earn college money?

...you are probably right Runsponge about the ratio of profitters and non-profitters but this was not "marketing" by Mindark. Mindark was approached by Entrepreneur mag and asked if they had any (not thousands) any high schoolers that profitted and could they interview them.

Magazines just like every other business try to profit from the "hot topic of the day"... so "ppl that profit from Virtual Worlds" is today's topic. And if you have noticed, many news mediums are all publishing their own slant on that same topic.

This is why, as a business owner, you have to be very careful about your involvement with the media. Although you cannot control every story that is written about you, you need to consider the big picture. It is ok to say "no, thank you, we do not wish to be involved at this time" instead of encouraging them. It's not like Entropia is such a big story that the newspapers would have been tracking you guys down demanding interviews. So now, instead of a fluff piece in WSJ and Entrepeneur Magazine , this has been picked up by local news shows around the country. And all it takes are a few angry parents and this thing takes on a whole new slant.

But, at this point, what's done is done. Guess we have to wait and see what happens next.

amazing. thanks for the post

please somebody write an articel about all the people who deposit and lost several 1000s $ and half their rl because of loosing time, too

should be the much more common version and i dont like to see only one side of the coin

What happened next was ...

I gave you a big fat -rep for being such a miserable, pessimistic, failed, bitter and twisted old scroat! :silly2:

Hopefully you'll pick up a few more on the way. ;)

Nice post Rex, nice interview Da.

Oh, no. How will I ever survive? It's amazing how, instead of pointing out how I am incorrect or offer a any useful discussion on the subject, you resort to name calling and neg reps.

And as far as my receiving neg reps on these two threads, quite the opposite is true. And, for what it's worth, neg or pos reps are only significant when one considers the source. :)

...i believe that we all have our own reasons why we are still participating in EU.
That being said, we all have our own way to push/urge/pressure/convince MA to improve the aspects that we each enjoy and interact with most... individually and collectively.

This thread began with noteworthy press articles that will bring more attention to what we all want... a better EU experience and a larger EU community. :)

...so this discussion is great and as we read the articles written by commercial media, we all need to remember there is no truth in media... only perception!

(was that too deep?)

not at all... I think Rex did a great job postin these articles

I have been watching this conversation quite closely, wondering what people would be bringing the negative attitude to the front. It's actually been fairly polite, considering the nature of the articles.

Most people don't realize what news is. News is PR. Be it good or bad, news is PR.

'There were 10 homicides this week' = bad PR for the police
'There were no homicides this month' = good pr for the police

Watch your nightly news, you will see lots of good and bad PR.

I personally think it's a great thing for Mindark to get more notice. Since so many people like to compare EU to a casino, I will make a poker example. In Texas holdem, there's only 1 winner, everyone else loses. But, still, ESPN shows all the poker tourneys, and everyone wants to play poker to win the big bucks. When they say 'Jim Bob earned 5 million dollars playing poker this year', no ones says 'yeah, and everyone else lost 5 mil'.

So, for those that wish to talk shit about Mindarks press releases, coverage that Mindark gets in the press, or anything else that makes Mindark look like the best thing since sliced bread, I say please, don't bring your negativity to a public forum. Go complain on the poker forums about all the press poker gets, you may have more sympathisers there.

I had more to say, but it'll start going into publicity of governmental figureheads, and I imagine that conversation would be out of bounds for this forum...

I think them saying the cashcard works on the new's may be a bit of my fault as well :p
They asked me they heard there were two ways of taking it out and I showed them the cashcard.
Since I heard the cashcard was going to be in use sometime this year,
I didn't mention it wasn't working at the time.

So its not mindark's fault about it being in the recent new's that was my fault.

Good point here. It's not MA who spreads vicious rumours and lies to the media, it's the payers! :wise:

It does surprise me that no-one that has ever been ripped by MA has gone onto the news or anything with their findings. Unless they've been silenced, which would not surprise me.

Your fanboyism is strong today...
