Hi everyone, I found a directx 10 for windows XP in the internet.

Before I try this one, I will try EU with directx 9.0c and see how it goes.

I just wanted to ask here if anyone is using or has used this directx 10
version for XP ?
If so what is your experience using this ?

Link posted so you know what I'm talking about. ;)

Keep in mind that this is a 3rd party compatibility project.
It is not support by Microsoft as signed drivers.

So not Microsoft DirectX 10 for WinXP;

Just 3rd party DirectX10 support drivers for WinXP.

I would be cautious in using such 3rd party service based drivers, the coding may have potential spyware, trojans, etc. It seems they are written in C++ also.

I hope that makes sense,
They would be use at your own risk, and supplied as is, in their disclaimer.

Not a good sign when their feedback/support site comes up with:
Please direct any feedback to the Falling Leaf Discussion forum
http://www.fallingleafsystems.com/forum/

Or from a different perspective, do you really want to put your Entropia Universe account at risk (client side - your computer side) from using what could turn out to be a potential security risk ?

Thanks Lavawalker, indeed I saw it is not supported by Microsoft,
the reason why I posted this question here, also to check if anyone tried it,
and to get some more info on the risks.

I'm aware it's very risky and you made some good points.
So I think I will leave it alone. ;)

Your welcome, I did not want to scare you away from it.

However that does sound like a good idea. Especially when your using a microtransaction service involving real money such as Entropia, or if you do online banking/shopping and the such.

Take care,
Sparkz

hehe i do have to say that i do think your a bit on the paranoid side ;P

Not everything on the net is dangerous, and as long as you do have protection you will in 99% be safe.

Also there are atleast one dx10 project for xp that is 3rd party, just due to that ms dont want to make it themselves, so the community has to do it themselves. Thus it's a forum used for support etc.

Should be absolutely no problem to use it (except if it's bugged that is) :p

i have it installed, and notice no difference.
If i was to guess, they just make some shit that makes your computer think its a DX10 installed in dxdiag for example, but its rly the same stuff, only a "name change" :D

But i know nothing about it, just my experiance!

its bin out there a while

and i would trust it.

if you dont want to place youre trust in it you can create a directx 10 for xp yourself.

i did it to have direct10 grafics for crysis and it worked.
its basicly a matter of copy paste directx10 files into directx 9

check tweakers.net for instructions on it.

It's more a way of fooling you're system and make it believe it has DX10. You won't have all DX10 benefits that Vista users have.

DirectX 10 is not even listed under FPC's "Optimal Requirements" (9.0c is), so is it possible that DirectX 10 additional features are not even used?

saw some talk about it in random techforum.. you are close to the truth

also, uninstalling this "dx10" might prove to be Herculanean task since there is no uninstall option for directx generally and windows would not install 9.0c since "10" is "newer"

good way to check:install some game demo built only for dx10 and find out if it runs..

Thanks all for the info. ;)

For now I will wait, new gfx card is arriving tomorrow, that should improve
my system enough to run VU10 better.
Still on an old XFX GF 6800 GS/XT, worked well the past years.
However it starts to show the effects of all the hard work. :D

Found out today that somehow I can no longer turn on Anti-Aliasing.
I think this is driver related as an older card works fine, so it's not
the mainboard. End of the year I will get another system, will be my
christmas gift. ;)

I want to keep my current system running on the side, so replacing the
AGP gfx card while I still can.

Now getting and Sapphire Ati Radeon HD3850, should keep me going for a
while. As this card supports directx 10, I had a look on the net if there was
an XP version released. And ran into this unofficial version.

yah tried to get rid of it aswell, when i noticed it was pure BS, not possible w/o reinstalling windows it seems, anyway i dont care anymore, aslong as it works :p

Well I won't be using that directx 10.

Recieved the new gfx card today, installed and everything runs well. ;)
I can now play the Crisis pre release demo with all graphics set to medium.
Runs smooth with no problems so far, hardly notice the demo loading.

VU10 will be different with the added internet connection, but I think I can
run it without many problems.

So all set here for the new update. :yay:

I run that version and I got no problem :D

Please note that dx10 is NOT the better version of the dx9. The thing is that they are different and NOT compatible with each other. If the game wants dx9 then you MUST have dx9 installed. You can have both dx9 and dx10 installed all the same time, it will work, it is designed to do so, but if you have only dx10 installed then your game won't work since it needs dx9 which isn't present on your pc.

This is a common mistake to think of dx10 as a just updated and better dx. It is not.

1) ma has the loader checking your os, so , it won't serve dx10 instructions to you system cpu oficially , hence your system cpu won't have to answer for what is required by dx10 over dx9.0c
2) even if you manage to get an unofficial working dx10 for xp , it won't be of any use since :
a) your vga drivers are not designed to recognize dx10 on xp
b) the loader configures the client to run in dx9.0c compatibility mode
3) I got the hd3850 vga card and I'm pretty pleased with it . On top of it , it runs on a 2 years old system that has only been fed with some additional ram and it allows 1024x768x32bit on high settings with a bit of tuning.
4) I'm sure it would allow much more if it had an os support for dx10 and I also suspect that every now and then my system cpu running on an old win xp OS is getting some of the dx10 instructions as leaks that make its usage higher than it should be.
