There is an advantage to hosting a business meeting in VR. All participants are equal, unlike videoconferencing.
I am not saying this is the best idea ever, but it is also not complete and utter crap.

I been setting up video conference equipment, since Tandberg was Tandberd, since last time I was working for salary, since year...2004 or so.

Nobody would fucking go and mock themselves with a fucking pixelated avatar :eyecrazy:

PS! Ok, maybe some startup 19 years old kids would play around and have fun, but no serious business will consider this shit.

The beauty with being God in a virtual universe, is MA can make the sun shine whenever they choose. If zero players logged in for a whole week, MA could make 100 ped last a whole month of continuous shooting on prots "if they wanted too".

That's why this cash cow won't die, because rules can be adjusted to suit what players want to pay. Which actually raises an important fact, players "are" still paying in the current environment, because if they wasn't MA would change it.

Must admit I've not been to the forum for a few days, sadly it's the same old story of players feeling upset for a variety of reasons.

Life moves on.

Well, at least its not a castle remodel project :dunno:

Now back to dreaming what this game could be like with a competent dev behind it.

if they still have their castle near Dresden, then it might be their most profitable business decision in the past 10 years.
value should have doubled by now (if they didnt pay too much for it).

real estate prices in germany are gaining steadily 4-8% per year.

Was thinking the same back in 1997 when I setup our video conference stuff. Thing was, back then we didn't have cell phones as we do today and why for the most part that is not really used anymore since now we can talk to anyone in the car on the way to work.

For the most part, for what is needed for this to take off, our computer power isn't strong enough yet and MA wouldn't have a clue in what direction to take it. For this to work you would have to be a company like Microsoft with thousands of programmers who could create a product where a person could join a group of people and build an idea in front of their eyes. That is when VR will take off. Yes, Microsoft has it now, but 1) it cost to much; and 2) the overall computer power just isn't ready yet.

But the biggest issue we do have which many are overlooking is that MA is once again looking for other channels which if they do well with would mean the end to EU. We need to ask MA if they are planning to keep EU going and how much longer. (yes, Yes, I know..it sounds bad but well).

It isn't the worst of all ideas for a company to try and make their business stand on more than one foot. However, if it means overstretching their resources and neglecting one, they will fail in all. I am sure they know that, but communicating anything to the customer base isn't their greatest strength. What they announce with the usual hyperbole rarely gets delivered, so instead of keeping to take the heat they went to delivering without announcing. It's just not what anyone would have expected or asked for. At any rate, this game never was an "investment", RCE or not. Just a game. Should it fold, it would be like a favourite pub closing where I liked to drink my beer. I don't expect to get any money back from there either. Good luck.

Well the current (I believe) CEO is Klas Moreau who joined from Ericsson, the same company we got the voice chat system from. Hardly surprising MA is dipping it's toe into the comm's business, I wouldn't surprise me to find out that Ericsson is MA's partner in this.

And yes I think it's utterly pointless as well, we have video chat from many other sources why would I wan't to talk to avatars when I could just have a video conference call and see people's true reaction.

Besides, half the people I know who use conference calling can barely use skype or a pc for that matter.

IIRC, this may well be a left over idea from the old Project Calypso days, around VU 7.

Anyone that made their way into the RDA building at Port Atlantis probably remembers that MA had a virtual office in there. Artifacts within included a Mars globe, a drone head on a shelf, etc.

Whether making good on it is good for a GAME PLATFORM, or if MA is falling victim to even further feature creep, remains to be seen, I suppose.

How did that virtual casino business idea go?
Website was down last time I looked.
I have more faith that people eliminated from American Idol will drop a successful album

Sorry - but time and experience has shown your 100 dream ideas that fade into the night.

I would say no.

We don't live in a surrogates type world as yet. For a business to invest in buying VR headsets and the cost of the software would be prohibitive compared to the ease of videoconferences, Skype etc.

I would suggest they focus on the Entropia Universe platform. It is like finding a seam of gold and not having the equipment to mine it. The game has barely reached its potential, other MMOs have noticed are taking over. One MMO... I forget its name...citizen something or other....Jenna Star might know has managed to crowdfund sooooooooooo much development into its space MMO it is breathtaking.

EU has a niche market, many of us are employed professionals with disposable incomes, yet need to have confidence in the game economy

1. I will invest in items if I know they are stable and the economic managers are aware of the effects of loot distribution etc
2. I will invest in crafting if successes were better balanced and Explosive projectiles were removed
- further to this, (L) items should be removed from the loot pool so crafters can make them
3. I still feel that the Explosive projectiles have had a significant impact on crafting diversity, if nanocubes were put in the loot, then at least there would be some balance
4. At least 4 out of 7 planet partners are non-functioning. Why is this the case? Surely it is in the best interest of the game to allow their content to be presented on a timely basis.
5. Developer public relations. One key success of any business is public relations, keep clients (Players) up to date with development. The Developer notes are very vague at present.
6. Reward players for longevity and commitment to the game with skills Agility, Stamina, Health etc.
7. Make skills count. Ie you have to be a level 25 pilot to fly a QUAD.
8. Stables and taming....still needs development
9. Shopping malls, need an over hall
10. Lag on Arkadia, celeste harbour needs addressing

The economy of this game is the key to its success. If players can profit, build empires and employ other players it will grow massively.

for the record, I did not have a problem with lag in this game once, in more than 2 (3?) years of playing now.

LOGGING IN is a constant problem! takes 2-3 attempts on average. but I've never seen anybody complain about that, weirdly enough. only about lag

Yes sad to say. Just this last weekend I came to Calypso for a soc hunt to see the lag 2.0 in first person. So bad now that if you don't stop shooting as you kill the mob you will waste shots. Now I find it not that big of deal using my Opalo, but I can see many others loosing a lot of money with this latest 'bug'.

Sad enough I'm guessing MA is moving servers around using our servers for other projects as well. Come on MA, EU is not DEAD!

Don't listen the opalo guy . On 15$ internet here and all is good no lag
So your saying everyone this last few weeks who have been saying lag on CALYPSO has been bad are wrong? I was just saying that I had no lag on Arkadia yet coming back to calypso I could see what a lot were saying. It wasn't as bad as I have seen it in the past but bad enough that shots where lost after the mob was dead -- which is kind of new.

Lets take it as an exercise in common sense. One guy has terrible lag, the game is pretty much unplayable. Right next to him stands this other guy who has no problems whatsoever. That's a situation I have seen firsthand, several times.
So, there's some players who have lag and at the same time in the same area others who don't. Can you explain to me how can this be caused by the server? Mind you, one doesn't have to know anything about internet or computers to figure out the correct answer...

[Disclaimer: I'm not trying to say lag doesn't exist at all. I'm not trying to say I know what's exactly happening in this case. All I'm trying to point out is that some possibilities can be excluded using simple logic.]

Let us follow some more logic. Mindark makes some changes in the form of an update and suddenly multitudes of people are experiencing issues. No way that can be a server issue? Hmm...

Yep, good point.
I suppose now we're getting closer to the understanding what's really happening in a situation where some people have lag or drop in frame rate, while others don't have any problems... But we're going offtop here, its better explained in more "techy" threads and by more qualified people than me.

Well, lets see, since everyone was bitching about it in all chats and here on the forum and I for the first time got to go to calypso from Arkadia to see it first hand I was pointing that out.

But also yes, it's a good sign really. See, EU servers have always had a hard time if a LOT of people are playing at the same time, but here I don't think is the issue since it seems that the servers are out of sync.

If this gives them experience in VR, and crosses the knowledge they get from this to Entropia, I'm all for it :)

From work, from home, from friends place. Laptop, PC, connection speed between 20/20 to 500/100. All lag.

So please, stop posting bullshit. Something changed, something is broken. MA has to fix it. End of story.

ill just say Ready player one is my favorite books ever, and after reading it , I dreamt and hoped that the OASIS would once become reality..

But tbh I wanted it to become a place to hangout with friends and play old commodore 64 and arcade games. Not a place for Excel , Powerpoint and men in ties (work stuff)
