I figured this is a good as place as any to keep a log of what I do in Entropia. I found info on this game browsing through youtube and thought I would give it a go. I already play or have played many other MMO's including SL, WoW, GW2, Tribes Assend, Star Wars and EvE. Currently GW2 is by far the best dollar per entertainment value. I paid $58 for the game (pre-order, played since it went live) and have not had to put a penny into it since (over a year). I put a lot of money into SL over the years and have taken a lot back out. I still use it an my #1 Role Play game.
I have been researching EU for a week now and very uncertain it is worth the cost. I see some people are putting ridiculous amounts of USD into the game every month and figured I would try and find out why.
Two days ago I created my account and started playing. I got my character looking the way I want. Was disappointed to find I am way taller in world that I anticipated but oh well. I was disappointed to enter the world in orange prison clothes. In the avatar creation you had clothes to choose but thy disappeared once you went to the first mission area. Logged off for the day.
Yesterday after RL work I logged back in to get started playing. It took a minutes to figure out the interface. After about 10mins I finally figured out how to put hotkey buttons on screen and get my keys and WoW mouse setup the way I want. Still feels very clunky moving around. No straif or dodge?
I played the starter missions and got some guns, mining gear and a buggy car. So far pretty simple, almost to simple. Shot some animals (really hope this isn't what hunting is going to be) did a little mining for a mission (mining seems interesting) and then it supposedly sent me to Port Atlantis but I ended up at Camp Icarus instead.
I was under the impression this game had more mature people in it but not so much at Camp Icarus. Seemed like a bunch of show offs putting their fancy vehicles all over, humping the AFK female avatars and acting generally immature. Was having flash backs of Stormwind City in WoW.
As I was trying to do my missions I kept getting spammed with a popup from people wanting to be a mentor (or be my mentor?). No one talked to me first or anything so I just declined. Not interested in getting spammed popups every few seconds. I finally finished my missions in that area and moved on to Port Atlantis as it was not to far away. Once at Port Atlantis I found A few more missions that showed you how to do a few things but it all seemed common sense stuff for the most part. I was pretty disappointed to find these large fancy buildings but nothing really happening there.
I found a TP and ended up in New Oxford. Was not to sure what to really do at this point so I decided to use the remainder of the mining stuff I got in the missions. I tried but said I could not mine in this zone so I picked a direction and started running. After a while I tried again and still would not let me mine so I kept running... Eventually it let me mine. I dropped a few probes and nothing, then finally I got a claim thingy. I eventually figured out how to find the marker (duh arrows on the finder thing blinking) and went to it. I extracted some Alicennies Liquid and then some Typonolic Steam. I then ran out of probes. At that point I remembered I had a car and decided to explore a bit. Ended up at Treasure Island. . Being I ran out of mining stuff I decided to look at the auction and see how much stuff costs as I must get some type of clothes. I am not running around like an escaped prisoner. I also wanted to see how much flying vehicles cost and how much more mining stuff costs.
I am still not sure how to read this auction interface. I can't seem to find an actual total for something. Spoiled on WoWs auction system I guess.
I figured out the mining stuff was in the trade terminal with some other basic stuff but no basic clothes... Although there was some armor. I may just get some armor for nothing else but to look decent. Still hashing that out. Being this is the first of the month I decided to deposit $25USD (yea, tried that sweating thing, no thanks) and got 240.10PED out of it. Now to get some kind of clothes, maybe a flying vehicle. and some more mining stuff..... Will see how far $25USD goes.
I also spent some time trying to figure out to use the screen shot system in this game. After extensive research it appears there is not one? I am pretty baffled on that. Making easy in game snapshots that people can easily upload to their forums and websites is such a basic and easy form of free advertising. So I got the free versions of fraps. However I will have to dust off Photoshop to convert to jpg if I end up uploading anything. No big deal to me as I use Photoshop and Gimp a lot for SL but the average player may find it troublesome. There really should be an in game screenshot system.
Anyway for now I am off to buy some stuff and start playing. Will report back later.
