I voted ... "
More focus on mining, less focus on PVP"
First let me say that I think this is an awesome event ... I love the concept and how it was designed ... BUT
Everything in the rules speak about this being a mining/pk event ... not a mining/hunting/pk event ... therefore I have some thoughts to bring into the mix that hopefully will be accepted as some critical thinking on my part, and not from a position of complaining or whining in any way ... this is my perspective.
As indicated above ... everything in the rules state this to be a mining/pk event ... for example: (and I'm mostly paraphrasing here)
"score mining globals"
"others can level advantage by PK'ing your miners"
"protect your best miners"
"beware of driller killers"
"mercenaries cannot be hired to hunt or protect miners"
"if a miner was killed ..."
"there's no distinguishing between miner or bodyguard"
"the pics in the original post even show VF and Lykke holding mining equipment"
I mention these things bcuz ... there has been a barrage of PK'ers roaming the domes and taking anyone out who's on a registered team in this contest whether or not they're mining.
Case in point ... Moonie and I were in Dome 13 one evening enjoying our usual bery hunt ... not mining ... Moonie was killed by a critical hit from a bery stalker, and I was left to battle it out with the stalker, as well as a prowler who joined in the fun.
I was doing just fine with the stalker who was almost dead when all of a sudden I took a big hit ... I thought it was the stalker and prowler doing it to me. I tried to fap (I have a 2600 and it wks fine), but then one more hit and I was dead. It wasn't until after I looked in the chat window to see if I had gotten a critical that I noticed that the berys did nothing to me, but rather "Skalman" had PK'd me. I discovered later that he had taken a pic thru his scope and had it posted at the EF forum to render a -1 against JetStar Alliance in this competition.
I have NO issue whatsoever getting PK'd during this event, and I want that to be clear... I understand that all 20 domes are PK, and I understand that in this event, a participating person takes a risk getting PK'd this first go 'round in domes 6-20. I think the PK aspect of the event makes it more exciting and heart-thumping when you see green dots enter the dome, and anyone who knows me, knows that I'm always up for an adrenaline rush.
The issue I have is this ... all along it's been called a mining/pk event, but it quickly turned into what I feel to be more of a PK event, and that mining globals are secondary.
My understanding was, from what I read of the original post ... that "miners" and their "bodyguards" could be taken out and that each would render points for the team taking them out. Fair enough ... I don't have a problem with that AT all, BUT ...
What's happened here is ... PK'ers are coming into domes and taking players out whether they're mining or not, and I really don't feel that it feeds into the spirit of this contest.
A point was made to me that it would have been difficult to know whether or not someone was mining ... my response to that is ... perhaps it could have been part of the original rules that pics only counted if there was proof that the person was mining, such as mining equipment in hand (maybe not always visible), or a claim rod up. It clearly states that the person cannot be PK'd a 2nd time after going bk to their claim, and would have to be allowed to extract that claim.
Personally ... I am disenchanted with how this is turning out, bcuz I was really looking forward to the challenge, as well as getting some mining skills in. I was ready to be PK'd while mining, and willing to continue in that vein, BUT ... it seems to have turned into a PK event without regard to whether you're mining or not.
If Skalman hadn't been in a soc that was registered as part of the event, then a straight-up PK while I was hunting would have been just that, and I wouldn't have had an issue with it at all, and rather honored to say the least bcuz it was Skalman, but the pic was posted in order to "level advantage" as the rules state, however ... mining had nothing to do with it.
I'm interested in seeing how the poll turns out, and what others have to say. It will also be interesting to see if the poll results match what will be shared in this thread.
I have nothing but sincere wishes for success with this event, and VF and Lykke know how much I adore them and support their every effort, but ... anyone who knows my reputation at these forums also knows that I'm one to be a critical thinker, as well as one to objectively give a perspective regardless of associations. My goal is to be as considerately constructive with my input as possible so that it has some kind of substance and value.
Here's to an awesome event continuing in the vein it was meant to be ...
