The shift from loot 1.0 to loot 2.0 in 2018/2019 I think coincided with some sort of court case if I recall... shortly after that case, looter profession was introduced and also all the guns got efficiency ratings added. Things became fairer on average but too balanced for there not to be an individual element to returns.

Best way I can describe my crazy theory is 2003-2018 EU was more like a lottery, where even noobs could uber on small spend. 2018-current EU is more like a slot machine where you get back most of what you put, in but you never really get ahead without markup like past system, and it will never all come back. Over time the more you play, you will lose 100% without mark up (which is shrinking by the day).

I think it's best to look at EU as entertainment budget and have fun doing the mission chains and chatting/skilling. It's best to focus less on returns ;)

Over the years I've had many theories, but in the end I decided 14 year old me was right all along

Oh, don’t get me started ... but here're a few
  1. Perception. Yes, every time I get perception, I'm certain there's at least a 15 PEDer loot nearby (ground or mob)
  2. Loot pool dynamics. People are constantly filling the loot pool in an area, and it might overflow and result in a nice HOF in time. So go where the people are
  3. Say thank you to Lootius. He remembers and definitely gives back
  4. Speaking of Lootius ... Say a prayer or request one from the Church of Lootius to bless your hunt, mining, or crafting trip. It matters ...

And even though the rest are only for the Deep Dark Champer :vampire: I'll share one of the most sacret rituals here:

How to summon the ultimate blessing from Lootius

Dance naked under the second moon on the 31st of February, whilst sweating a Chirpy (yes, that one ... don't let it escape).

Then (in this order):
  • Roll twice to the right
  • Jump one step forward
  • Roll twice to the left
  • Jump one step forward
  • Then one step backwards
  • Perform a flikflak (bonus if it hurts)
  • Lie down dramatically, whispering “Lootius sees me”
  • Fire three shots in the air toward the East, West, North, and South (yup, that’s 4 directions)
Only then will you know if you're truly chosen to get loot

agreed and im playing EU to enjoy healing and growing with my gears through tiering.
with game of chance aspect its perfect fit for me :)

my theory is:
Read 2017 document that explains loot 2.0
Read EntropiaMaster's post and not level 10 looter posts
trust the almighty algo

. I have formed an unshakable belief that there are lucky areas, and if a mob is killed in one of these areas loot is generally good. (it is just something I have noticed over time.

. I feel that there are local loot pools - I noticed this while hunting Rextellums. There are only two TPs on the island - and you can get a good idea of who is hunting there (ignore the other spot on taxed land). Do a scan on the people who will appear at the TPs - if you possess more looting skills than them, then you will be in luck. But if JBK & friends (or suchlike) happen to be hunting - go somewhere else till they leave as all you will be doing is contributing to their good loots and just pissing you off :(

My favourite is the facing North one. But its just the view need to facing there with the minimap, not my avatar.
It is like the rain dance, if you dont stop till it works, it works.

None but all time i changed weapon after a dry period it worked out. Lately i never used weapons under 83 eff lets say. I focus on 83-90 eff only.

Globals and hofs are just your tt losses paid back at 95-99% average , the system is not pool based or avatar based , it is a hybrid of both otherwise people would have 20% return long term , I do believe that some avatars have a more long term and some have a shorten payback window/cycle. If you hunt for MU then you won’t lose as much but if you go for sharp only mobs you’ll lose on the long term

where would you get a weapon with 83+ efficiency :(

as far as the system being pool based or avatar based - I have no idea. I am just aware that if I am hunting for the same mobs as other avs who have lower skills than I do, my returns seem to be better than if I am hunting by myself or in the area with more skillful avs.

There is no science to my observations , just stuff I seem to notice over time. I have not deposited since Jan 2024 and I seem to be getting by (so far)

If I told you, everyone would do it, and MA would change it!

Sadly that sounds like a few people with special knowledge taking advantage. If Mindark would change it if they were aware - means it is an undiscovered exploit :(

items that were revised so that max repairable ped amount was lowered give loot pool bonus if ped value is still higher than current max since it was never used down to that level. Similar thing happens with pets that had max food level reduced. This is speculation like all things of course... multiplying by negative random numbers and what not...

;)
