Youtube Adblocker for Edge

i honestly have no idea what add blocker i use, but i dont get adds on youtube for my pc, and i dont pay for it

? idk how well it works on pc, works like a charm on android

Get Brave Browser, it has Adblock/Anti-tracking built in. You also earn BAT (Basic Attention Token) for being served small unobtrusive ads every so often while using the browser. I had accumulated about $40 worth in around 6 months of just normal browsing. Also has mobile apps.

On my android I use regular YouTube and suffer the ads because the revenue mostly goes to the content creator, which in turn supports them and helps them create more content.

Set up pihole with a raspberry pi. Block all ads on all devices including iPhone, android, stupid ass smart TVs. you're uhhh toaster and uhhhh refrigerator.

I've heard of something called pihole that can be run on raspberry pi's but I presume they have to be set up as some sort of internet router or proxy server for it to work...? Maybe worth a google

There are zero good reasons to use Edge. It exists specifically to cater to corporate networks who still have old shits needing to use IE10 for their intranet vaporware.

For the features you require, you will want Brave.

This is a matter of opinion.... and a likely uninformed one at that.

That would also be a matter of an opinion .. and a likely uninformed one at that.
Why would someone who uses it daily, by choice, be uninformed about it's features? Seems pretty unlikely to me.... actually, FYI I'm in the beta program so whenever it gets updates I read summaries of new features.

2 of my favourite features are the reader mode and the azure AI voices for TTS for instance. I find the built in PDF reader really useful too.

Only using Brave for exactly the reason that it's suppressing ads by default.

Also has TOR integrated if you want to open a new tab with TOR enabled.

Really happy with it.

Is Brave somehow related to Opera out of interest? I used to use/like opera before a reinstall and then somehow never got round to going back to it

Yes, I'm using Brave which is pretty good and best to watch YouTube without Ads.
Agreed, but it seems they have upped their checking... get the occasional "adblocker warning" recently..

No. Though interesting fact - Brave was created by one of the original founders of Mozilla who also created Javascript.

I moved to it because I find it continued the spirit of what firefox used to be in the early days before they ruined it.

Is it perfect? No. But it's a step in the right direction despite being chromium based.

To the OP you will be unlikely to find a good Youtube adblocker due to changes with newer versions of chromium which prevent ad blocking ability. The Goog-holes are really trying to eradicate them. So even if you find one today is unlikely to work indefinitely into the furure.

Plugins are bound to the confines of the browser and can't override its core. Microsoft is unlikely to try to go against this by hacking chromium to allow blockers. Brave on the other hand openly opposes it and makes considerable effort to ensure ad blocking continues to work.

Thanks! That was really interesting/useful! I'm really behind on this stuff.

Just to comment on something posted here, you should be very limited in the chrome (or brave) plugins you install. A lot of them are malware and they are worse than you realize. ESPECIALLY VPN ones.

I second vote for Brave!

Anyone use duck duck go? is that any good?

Imagine all the people complaining about the pest that is online ads would switch to Brave. The censorship industrial complex speerheaded by Google could be dealt a big blow as their dependence on ad revenue is so overwhelming.

Instead this is where we are in terms of marketshare: Brave: ~1.5%

All the while Chrome still has 60+%

I used to use it a lot years ago. It had some cool features like using bangs and the search results were decent but still weren't quite as good as Google. But then it turned out they were tracking and selling user data like the big guys...

I since moved on to use Brave search instead. Since Google search has really gotten worse I find Braves results to be just as good and even better in many cases than even what Google used to be like. They have lots of good features going for them as well including cleaner results without a full page of bs before the results like Google.

Brave search also has an AI summarizer at the top of the results that's decent and cites sources. They also support bangs! If you are unfamiliar with bangs it's basically the abilty to add something like:
!imdb
!maps
!wiki
!ebay
To the end of your search query and when you submit it you will conduct the search at that specific site directly. Such a much cleaner experience.

Understanding Manifest V3 and the Future of uBlock Origin

Published: 26 September 2024
With the advent of Manifest V3 (MV3), many users are concerned about the future of ad blockers like uBlock Origin. Manifest V3 is a significant update to the Chrome extension platform, introducing changes that impact how extensions interact with web content. Here's what you need to know about MV3, how it affects uBlock Origin, and what alternatives are available.

What is Manifest V3?

Manifest V3 is the latest version of the Chrome Extensions platform manifest. It introduces several changes intended to enhance security, privacy, and performance. One of the most significant changes is the modification of the webRequest API, which many content blockers use to intercept and modify network requests.

How Does MV3 Affect uBlock Origin?

uBlock Origin relies heavily on the webRequest API to block unwanted content before it loads. Under MV3, the webRequest API is limited, and extensions are encouraged to use the new declarativeNetRequest API instead. This new API allows for predefined rules but lacks some of the dynamic capabilities that uBlock Origin utilizes for advanced content blocking.

Alternatives and Solutions

  1. Continue Using uBlock Origin on Firefox
  2. Use uBlock Origin Lite
  3. Switch to Browsers Committed to MV2 Support
  4. Explore Other Content Blocking Methods

Conclusion

While Manifest V3 introduces challenges for content blockers like uBlock Origin, there are viable options for users to maintain an ad-free browsing experience. Stay informed about these changes and adjust accordingly to ensure continued protection of your privacy and enhanced browsing experience.
