I did some tests on the new Steel Birds and proved that they do Burn and Electric damage.

Here's how:
Pixie 5B took no decay so no Stab, Cut or Impact
6B plates took decay so there is electric
6A plates took decay so there is Penetration and/or Burn
2E plates took no decay so there is no Penetration
Polaris took no decay so no Cold or Shrapnel
Goblin took no decay so no Acid

I think it's probably 63% Burn and 37% Electric

So forget wearing Vigi, put on Ghost with some 6A or 6B plates

nice test results. thx for sharing

Thanks for testing and for posting your findings. I hunted them in Vigi+6b and based on my results I was guessing at Burn+Electric but hadn't done any proper tests yet.

It's probably possible to isolate the proportions of each type by using Thunderbird and Vigi.

How do you work out the percentages?
I got these plate decay measures via fruit tests after a single hit using pixie as a plate holder:

6B - 12 Electric - 1750 Durability - 0.817 PEC decay - I took 36.6 Damage
6A - 12 Burn - 1400 Durability - 0.820 PED decay - I took 41.6 Damage
2A - 1 Burn - 600 Durability - 0.09 PED decay (min decay) - I took 51.9 Damage

Both the 6B and 6A decays show they absorbed the full 12 points of damage, so all that tells me is that electric is at least 25% - 12/(36.6+12)=25% and Burn is at least 23% - 12/(41.6+12)=23%

Sounds like a mob for phantom! Where's the bigger ones? ;p

Neh they are not too hard, just need a good fap or vivo.
Without armor they hit me up to 65, highest critical they gave me so far 130.
But some armor would be helpfull, nice results. ;)

Bigger ones ? I guess this will be it for the event.
Then after the event they will be adjusted and more gens will be added.
Low gen on low altitude, higher gens up to 1000 ?
If so ?
We can kiss our VTOL's goodbye.

That's the right method but it's more useful if the armour doesn't absorb the maximum it can, which is why Thunderbird with its high electric protection would work.

Work out the damage unplated Thunderbird absorbs using the decay test, making sure that you get more than a 1.0 hit. Since we know from your 6a test that a decent sized hit will use the full 10 Burn from Thunderbird, the rest of the absorbed damage must be the Electric, and as long as the armour isn't using the whole 50 Electric protection, that must be all of the Electric damage. Add the absorbed damage to the received damage and you'll know the total damage inflicted (before armour), so you can then work out the proportion of electric in the total.

e.g. say Thunderbird absorbs 33.6 damage and you receive 25.4 damage.

33.6 - 10 = 23.6 electric damage inflicted
33.6 + 25.4 = 59 total damage inflicted
23.6 / 59 = 40% electric damage

(Completely made up numbers btw :))

I don't know if you have Thunderbird (L would work too of course), but if no-one beats me to it I'll try to do this test tomorrow.

Did a run on them with Hermes and 6b's didn't need to fap at all :D

Well I managed to borrow some Salamander which has 50 burn protection and no Electric, durability is 3000.
So using this: http://www.entropiawiki.com/Page.aspx?page=Armor+Decay

I took 13.5 damage and the Salamander decayed 1.847 PEC, I calculate that the armour took 23.28 damage, so 23.28/(23.28+13.5)=63%

So its Burn 63%, Electric 37%

(hope this is right Oleg? would like to compare to your Thunderbird test)

So with 6A or 6B plates these armours are good:
Thunderbird
Phantom
Martial
Ghost
Zombie
Orca

I believe I got as low as 1dam on Salamander +6a, no electric at all in this combo. Can you maybe test salamander +6a see what happens?

I hunted them last night with Rascal + 6A but needed to fap. With the results of your tests it should better work with Rascal + 6B or 4C.

Thx for the tests !

Oh, btw, this stupid Steelbirds stucks in the Trees and can't come down, anyway from what direction you shot them. I wasted some ammo before i found out this.

When you overlap plates and armour, the damage types get reduced twice.

No, the result would be exactly the same 6b adds 12 electricity protection, 6a adds 12 burn protection, in either case you get 24 total protection from steel birds and all of it gets used.

You'll get a few 1 dam with Sala 6a.
Their damage is about 67 so they do from 33.5 to 67 damage and with Sala 6A you'll get 1 damage if the hit is from 33.5-35.3, which is about 5% of the hits.

So with 6A or 6B plates these armours are good:
Thunderbird
Phantom
Martial
Ghost
Zombie

Of these, Thunderbird(L) has very nice markups, and a lot of the looted parts make their way directly to the TT. Should make a bunch of hunters happy if this changes.

I don't have my decay formula handy but this looks good.

Playing around with some scaled-up figures it looks like it's probably 68 maximum damage, of which 43 is Burn and 25 is Electric.

You do not need any armor at all, they hit even shittier than trox!
Go get some dodge! :D

i get a pretty consistant 1 damage from them with Eon sga and 6as... so maybe something is wrong here?
(steel bird 01)

i only have 5.3-5.5 electric protection... so they may do electric... but not much in total...

https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=252696

for the purpose of ease... i will round a bit

74 Pen
30 Impact
61.5 Burn
5.5 Cold
31 Cut
31 Stab
27.5 Shrap
5.5 Acid
5.5 Electric

if 33% of the damage is Electric... and i have 5.3-5.5 protection being 1/3 the damge... would mean that these things dont do much more damage then 16.5 damage (5.5 x 3 (Three 3rds) ;))

And a side note... I was expecting a large decay bill because of the damage protection i was getting...

i dont know if it is a bug or not... but 1.5 hour hunt... and 300 peds used in ammo on a as129 (lower ammo burn weapon) and i got 9.3 peds of decay with Armour and plates... (6a)

so very low decay... for sure damage absorption... and it maintained a pretty consistant 1 damage through out the hunt... didnt leak much damage... so i dont know what is going on but it cant be 33-40% electric as some claimed here... that or the armour is bugged ;p

So i went naked and found 35-68 damage shots i was taking... which was probably reported in the thread already...

so if 1/3 of the damage is cold... i should get...
(35x.33)11.5 - 5.5(5.5 max cold protection) = 6 damage on the low end...
(68x.33)22.4-5.5 = almost 17 damge on the high end... i can safely say i have never seen a damage this high...

so there must be other protection involved on these guys...

SteelBird seem to miss quite a lot, with Ghost+6a on a 500ped ammo hunt I haven't gone over 5ped armour decay yet,so with a higher dodge level I wouldn't expect a massive decay bill in comparison to many mobs.

i have not tested ghost... but what kinda damage do they do through ghost?

It varies of course but anywhere from 5 to 35ish,the maximum I have received from memory is 40.?

This is because of the weird way plates work. With your protection heavily skewed towards Burn, you are actually absorbing more Burn damage than the mob inflicts. Hence the small amount of Electric protection is enough to give you 1.0 hits.

If I am right about the 68 max damage with 43 Burn and 25 Electric, you would get this result from a max hit:

43 Burn protected by Eon SGA
12 Burn protected by 6a
5 Electric protected by Eon SGA

Toal protection 60
Maximum damage received = 68-60 = 8

Note that your Burn protection reduces the damage by 55 even though the mob only does 43, due to the plate anomaly.

On a minimum hit (34 total, 21.5 Burn, 12.5 Electric) the numbers would be:

21.5 Burn protected by Eon SGA
12 Burn protected by 6a
5 Electric protected by Eon SGA

Toal protection 38.5
Maximum damage received = 34 - 38.5 = -4.5 (so 1.0 received damage).

If you are getting (non-critical) hits higher than 8.0 then my max damage figure is wrong, but the % damage distribution is correct.

and it is tiered so i get up to 10% more burn protection ;) it all makes sense now...

Thunderbird is good, but I'd rather use my UL Ghost and save my (L) Thunderbird for the Eviscerators.

To answer the other questions, when a MOB does multiple damage types you get more protection than you think when using plates. Here is a breakdown of damage for various combos. First number is the damage the mob hits with, the second is the damage you receive:
