In real life I am a TEFL teacher (Teacher of English as a foreign language). I also teach products and services for our economics department. I teach 15 year olds who attend preparatory vocational education classes.
So I was wondering.. Is there a game out there, where the students can learn some English and deal with products and services at the same time.. some game where they would virtually meet other people and practice their English and economics skills..
Well today I taught...
It was a load of fun. It was hard getting everybody's account created, because after 4 registrations from the same Ip-adress , the account creation system told us that the service was no longer available. Luckily the students had mobile phones with 3g/4g, so they created their accounts through there. Some of them just started running and hunting exarosaur, so they ran out of ammo pretty fast before they had done the target practice. Which meant I had to give them some ammo and tell them to do the missions in Thule because else they wouldn't get anywhere. It was also pretty hectic, because helping out 22 students at the same time was a bit hard sometimes. There was also an official helper online there, but my students didn't notice him and walked right past him. Also standard mistakes like dropping actual probes on the floor, and forgetting to tick the ore and enmatter buttons. Some stuff is really illogical in Entropia like operating a vehicle and then having to get out and put the oil in the vehicle storage and then still not being able to move. You only notice this once you watch somebody do it who has never played before.
All in all they learned a thing or two, that losing money is easy and they also learnt some English words like "equip" and "inventory".
