Become the next Entropia Forum Official Reporter!

EntropiaForum is looking for another Offical Reporter to bring the latest news and happenings in EntropiaUniverse to the members of EF. We hope to have fresh news stories on a more frequent basis, and as EU and EF grows, this requires the contribution of many dedicated people.

Given the amazing wealth of creativity and talent among the members of our community, we have decided to open an exciting little contest to help us find the next Official EF Reporter.

Any member who believes he/she would serve the community well in this position, and is capable of reporting news, events, and other notable activities that happen in EU can participate in this contest. Entrants should have a good knowledge and understanding of EU and an ability to draw from previous events for comparison if necessary when reporting current events.

Rules

  • Contest will be open for article submissions until Sunday, October 22, 2006, 23:59 MA time
  • Articles must be EntropiaUniverse related: a major event, storyline, act of kindness, or anything of significance that the EF community would be interested in reading about. It may even be a profile of an avatar you feel has made significant contributions to the community, or is just a very colorful and entertaining individual that we would all appreciate getting to know better. Your creativity is the only limitation!
  • Articles should be lengthy enough to be able to judge writing style, and should include a picture (if possible) to complement the content.
  • Articles should be written in English, in a professional manner, and proofread for grammar, typographical errors and clarity.
  • Contestants should post their articles as a thread in the EF Reporters Contest subforum. This forum works just like the Diary forum (only the thread-starter can post). Each contestant should have only ONE thread in this area for all articles, edits and comments.
  • After review of all the entries, EF staff will choose 5 finalists. The entire EF community will then have a chance to vote for their favorite of the finalists in a poll. The winner of this poll will be the next Official EF Reporter!

As editor of the News section of EntropiaForum, MindStar9 will be managing this contest, and coordinating current and future EF Official Reporters. Any questions entrants may have should be posted in this thread, or sent via PM to MS9.

Good luck to all the entrants!
We are looking forward to reviewing your entries, and ultimately finding that star reporter that will help us keep the Front Page fresh and interesting!

A few giudelines on the layout of your articles.

To make a picture appear next to some text you can use the WRAP bbcode, to make a picture appear to the right of some text use the following format...

HTML:
[wrap=right]https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/gallery/files/1/mape_black.gif[/wrap]
Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text

...which would look like this...

[wrap=right]https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/gallery/files/1/mape_black.gif[/wrap]
Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text Some text

...and use LEFT to get the pic on the other side ofcourse.

You can see all available bbcodes here...
https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/forums/misc.php?do=bbcode

Also, please avoid using smilies in your articles, they dont look too good on a frontpage.

Any pics you use in your articles should be no more than 490 pixels wide, so that they fit the frontpage better, bigger pics is can be used though, they can be made as clickable thumbs, but atleast one pic should be "fullsize" without the need for thumbnailing it.

Happy writting :)

 This should be fun. Nice one 711/MB/MS9 et al :)

I may give it a try but my english isn't the best

Just to confirm, I saw we are only allowed to enter one "thread" in the competition section. Is that only one entry, or can we make multiple entries on the same thread - I can think of a couple of stories i would like to cover and would be great if i can do both :D

Yes, you can have as many news stories in your thread as you like, the more the better :)

This is really an exciting contest, because it gives us all an opportunity to share in the writing brilliance of so many creative members in our community. I am hoping that many of these individuals will come forward and submit an article or two and take a shot at joining our reporting staff.

Our mission in designing such a contest and increasing our reporting staff is to be able to bring fresh, interesting, and perhaps exciting news to the community on a more consistent basis. The goal is to keep the community informed and entertained, and based on some of the threads and posts we've all enjoyed at this forum, there are many who have the ability to help us achieve our goal.

Don't be shy ... get out there and bring us your best stories, but be sure to review the rules first so that your submissions will be in compliance. If you have any questions whatsoever regarding this contest, please post here, or send me a PM.

Good Luck to all of you! :D

Sounds fun...

Can't seem to get a new thread started, something I'm doing wrong?

Whoops, a permission wasnt set right, should be fixed now, please try again. :)

Maybe we could have something posted by certain skilled players forexample:

1st day of month: Marco - MA Staff
5th day of month: Akoz - Land Area
15th day of month: Buzz Lightyear - Crafter
25th day of month: Neverdie - CND

those were a few off the top of my head. Maybe twice a month Marco could post a little artice on news MA is working on. Maybe other Landowners & someone skilled in certain areas give us a brief artcle how their mining, or crafting etc was for that previous time....

so if people knew on those days of the month they visit & see something they were waiting to read by the certain person they might be interested in...

Good ideas BD, and something to keep in mind when we add to our reporting staff. Part of the responsibility of the reporting staff will be to go out there and get the news, which means that they would most likely "interview" each of the individuals above to gain their front-page story content, if in fact this is the direction they go.

With regard to MA ... maybe as Editor of the News Section now I could entertain the idea of interviewing Mr. Marco myself once a month (twice might be too much), and perhaps get some input with regard to anything that might be of interest to us, outside of what Bertha and/or Marco posts himself. Mind you I said MAYbe ... this may not be possible for any number of reasons, but worth considering.

I like that you took the time to post some ideas BD, and I'm hoping that perhaps more will do the same. But more than this ... I hope that some of our more prolific writers in the community will take the time to submit some articles into the contest for consideration, and possibly becoming part of our reporting staff.

Let's see some magic in those keystrokes people ... you've got until 23:59 AM time next Sunday the 22nd to get your articles submitted.

Hmmmm.... interesting. (just got fired, need a job LOL)

2 questions;

Can the "event" reported on be one/some that the entrant has organised himself?

What does the new reporter "get"?

Respect of ones peers of course :D

I had an idea for a story but it was more in line for an MA EBN news story. tbh though im not that imaginative 99% of the time and im drunk the other 1%.

Eternal fame if you're good, a good bashing if not, a ban if you cross the line :D

Bashing can come with beeing a good reporter aswell ;) Not everyone will like what is written, I recived alot of bashing on one interview I did. Not anything about the quality of the interview, but about the views of the person whom I interviewed.

Sometimes, people dont manage to differ between what is the reporters and what is the interviewobjects opinions. When a reporter doesnt let his/hers own opinions shine through (which it shouldnt in a interview..) the objects´s opinions are often mistaken as the reporters.

You need to be able to take that risk if you want to be a reporter tho.
Like my mum always say, if you stick your head out the window you should expect it to blow :silly2:

I am not exactly a business major, so bear with me if I am wrong, however...

When choosing someone to represent a company, or in this case, a web-forum, I think that talent alone is not enough. The individual chosen must be more than somewhat committed, and fairly stable. With that thought in mind, I wonder of someone who, in the recent past, has wandered from the fold, and has upon occasion, gone off on a rant toward the forum management, would have a fighting chance, assuming their work was passable...

What do you think? I'd really like to know because I have this 'friend' that wants to do something up, and he is afraid he will not even be considered.

Sincerely,
Donald

Well I think the person have to be fairly trusted. Im not sure how mr 711 and Buster have thought about setting this up, if you need approval of them (= the story will be in development forum until they send it to frontpage) there isnt much else needed but talent and a fairly good judgement
(= not releasing info that for example I write in development forum before published)

But if they are thinking about giving the priviliges to send the story to frontpage right away then I think some trust is required :) But I think the first option is what is most likely.

Your 'friend' will do fine im sure :D

Donald,

I would urge your unnamed friend to make a submission in the contest. As long as the member is in good standing as a member of EF (e.g. not banned) then their entry will be judged on their writing and reporting abilities.

And to address Skam's point, this new reporter will be supervised by Skam (Senior Reporter) and MindStar9 (Newsroom Editor). Like any reporter, the winner of this contest will have freedom to pursue whatever relevant stories he/she wishes, and then work together with forum staff to present them to the EF community in the News forum and front page.

Excellent! Thank you for clearing this up. Ruprecht shall be most pleased...

We all report to 711, and Skam and I have always worked very well together as a "team" so that's how it will be ... we just have a different set of responsibilities in order to make it all work.

I have professional editing background with a book in publication, not to mention Editor of 4 international corporate newsletters in the past, so my main function will be pulling the end product together prior to final review by 711 for front page publication.

Skam has great experience as our front page reporter at this forum, so she'll be an asset in directing additional reporter staff with the ins and outs of putting a story together. We've all enjoyed her work, so I'm sure we can continue to expect our front page news to be just as interesting and exciting with her as Senior Reporter and assisting the new staff. She's done a great job, and I'm looking forward to seeing this revised structure add a new flavor into the mix.

Here's to finding our next reporter! :beerchug:

 cute one Skam!

Skam and I are partners and I will always think of us in that term, and as a team ... NOT anyone being under ANYone, but all together working as "1" ... not divided or anything else.

As I said, we just have a different set of responsibilities to bring it all together, and Skam will do a super job directing the new reporter staff. I'm more involved in the end product prior to 711-review and publication.

Skam has earned her position as Senior Reporter over new staff, and there's every confidence that she's going to do a bang-up job at it, so I'm looking forward to seeing her experience come through in training new staff reporters.

Let's keep it positive and look forward to new stuff happening on the front page. :D
