I read on EF before the transfer, that FPC had been bought out by some other entity and that an announcement was forthcoming.

Mindstar9 has dropped a few hints that she knows / suspects who is the new owner, so....

Who is it?

When will we know?

Anyone care to comment?

And maybe the most important question.... Does it matter?

I dont know why I should care, but I really do :scratch2:

Getting a bit sick of being sold to the highest bidder

due to the lack of news, im inclinded to think it has fallen through. if a buyer had started paying up front money i'd expect they would have already taken over day to day administration (unless of course its a management buyout, in which case we wouldnt see anything and it wouldnt make any difference either)

Here's my one and only response to this since I made comments in the past ... I was told by a reliable source, who does not have a relationship with FPC, but has close ties with the management team of another entity, that we can expect more controversy as a result of the dynamics of this undertaking. Also that management is going to be quite different as a result of who the new owner is, and where they are located. I know what the connection is with this person, which makes the shared information credible, but won't reveal that, sorry.

However, in spite of perhaps some initial controversy, it might end up being a good thing for the community in how everything is managed, so maybe not so bad. I guess we'll find out over time.

Even though payments representing $6 million USD will be paid out into 2011, there was to be an announcement already before this, but ... maybe they're holding off until the current heat in the community cools off, I don't know. I don't think the deal is off, because it was stated in an MA report I believe, that the purchase was made, papers had been signed (August I think), and an announcement would be made.

Perhaps they're in a transition period ... which is maybe why EP hasn't gotten responses in months regarding exclusive interviews from Marco and Hanne for the March issue. Marco originally said he would do one with me, but then has not responded to any follow-up emails since September, nor to contact made by other EP staff. Doesn't matter now, we have a different line-up for the March issue, so we're good to go.

Whatever is happening at Planet Calypso, I wish them well, and hope that over all, it will be good for everyone involved, and that the future of Calypso will be nothing less than spectacular. Time, as always, will teach us.

me me me !!! ... oh no, wait ... that was some FPS by getting a new gfx card some time ago :ahh:

Based on that information, I would first guess Arkadia ("management team of another entity") -> Deathifier (buyer), or Rocktropia/Neverdie -> Neomaven.

Just guesses though.

Incorrect regarding Arkadia/Deathifier ... and according to the information I have, RT/ND also incorrect ... however, I don't know anything with regard to Neomaven having a connection or not.

Neomaven and Neverdie were in Warants together. That's their connection.

I had concerns if it may be:

Sony Online (Shut down The Matrix, didn't exactly do a great job with Star Wars)

EA games (Shut down Earth and Beyond)

Cant be bothered to list all the others such as Tabula Rasa, Auto Assault, Sims Online and so on, but if the new owner was one that was responsible for a failed MMO, then I'd have to consider my options.

Speculation and all that, it'll go on until there is some kind of statement.

So as this is an FPC forum, ideal place for an annoucement.

There would certainly be controversy if the buyer turns out to be Linden Labs. But maybe the buyer is Anshe Chung. We have not heard much from her in quite some time.

I wonder if Skippie will end up buying her bank. She has to be favourite in my book, as she has put it on auction twice already.

Sorry, just had to have a little fun.

Perhaps Linden Labs wouldn't be so bad. Sure, their well-known virtual universe is no longer the flavour of the month any more but it was successful for a while. If they can promote Calypso as they did Second Life then that's not a bad thing, and if the other planets get residual business as a result then great.

That said, they can keep their porn and men in green macks.

but it was successful for a while.

nobody can prove that they really made _that_ much money in SL or if it was a PR stunt. And they didnt run the bank successful and not long, even with big plans behind etc... They don't know anything about the game, dont care about the community... they are definately not the buyer and will stay away from EU for loong :)

Regardless of who purchased it or will be purchasing it, fpc will not exactly be a tough act to follow.

That a big entity like Sony would buy a planet is something I very much doubt.

The more companies run different planets the better,
it means more competition to attract players, incentives for marketing campaigns, more stability for MA (less risk that MA will sell out to an industry giant) and also more pressure on MA to deliver improvements and to flounder less.

MS 9 either "knows" way to much to be playing this game, as a normal player. OR is an incredible gossip. OR ?

or is a reporter asking the right questions to the right people. Should have more of those in game, lol.

Never the less, it will be interesting when the time comes :wise:

Could be..... could be..... She's certainly up on the goings on in all the planets. Rocktopia... and the goings on with the rockstars .... NI...... private emails from David..... Calypso... inside sales and such.

Don't "Reporters" Report .. um... FACTS?

Everytime I read a MS 9 post I feel like there are allot things, going on that I, (nor 99% of players) don't know about. I don't like that.

I think MS 9 should REPORT FACTS, or NOT SAY.

of course since this is the FPC forum... or whoever owns it now, I guess they decide.

I like this kind of threads where nothing is said. May I add mine guess?

I'll give you guys a small hint ...

The new name of the game will be Atrax Beachotopia...

Let the speculation begin!! :eyecrazy:

Neomaven really??? ow boy

The US government bought it so they could gain support attacking the middle-east.

if FPC was already sold , who gets the cash for Medusa sale?

Blizzard maby, now that would cause some controversy

Controversy........hmmmm  I would think it would have to be a player or maybe a mix of players with a few currently in FPC. I think that would cause a big stink and tinfoil hatters coming out of the wood work dredging up info from long ago showing the relationship.

So many options. My choice would be someone or a group who has been close to MA long before FPC with money.

Rumor mill is interesting needless to say.
