Question: Who bought FPC?

Well if the take over news is true, it's going to be interesting.

Simply cos they will have multiple planets they will have to manage and plan for, without showing favoritism to either.

If they started pushing one planet over the other, there is a chance that the player base may not be too happy about that. Even if they are not doing that consciously, the perception itself may become an issue.

Like how the perception(real or not) of ND having insider info / conflict of interests has become an issue.

My only issue with SEE is the amount of Calypso 'resources' that will be re-allocated to build SEE's new planets.

As long as Calypso doesnt suffer in order to build MJ world I'll be fine ;)

Then again I'll probably have moved to Arkadia by then anyway.

Interesting comments ... would love to see more critical thinking about this and what the community thinks. If SEE is in fact the new owner with rights to Calypso, then a few valid questions have already been raised ... resources for one, and whether Calypso would suffer as a result of building out other planets.

There are several planets already in concept stage, but I'm wondering if SEE would be in a position to bring in a much larger staff as a result, or if the same thing would happen as has happened at ND Studios ... there are supposedly 10 developers on staff (according to ND) that float between RT and NI depending on needs (ND's video certainly didn't demonstrate this however).

Not sure the most effective way wouldn't be to have dedicated staff on each planet so that content focus didn't become blurred ... we already know what we've experienced thus far, so keeping everything straight with more than one planet in-house can't be that easy. :dunno:

Know what I'm waiting for? ... the first financial report from RT and NI. They have to do that right? :)

As long as SEE have a lot of hamsters and/or staff in reserve, all should run smoothly. :silly2:

I like this kind of threads where nothing is said. May I add mine guess?
It's part of human nature .. always curious even when they sleep in their dreams....and in general it's a good thing

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh please stop quoting those comments MindStar because they literally give me a nervous breakdown! :cussing:

If you do not like the theme or game play of a particular planet,
then just don’t go there!

ie. like it or lump it [or FU to be blunt]

Some people seem to want to stick to a sci-fi theme throughout the universe! How boring! Open your
mind and see the possibilities of what this universe can offer."

Yes, some of us would have infinitely preferred a sci-fi theme throughout the universe! (how very boring and closed minded I am)

That was one reason I signed up for PE 6 years + ago: I could see the possibilities within the model to create such a coherent universe with various planets to be added having 100% relevance to the storyline, neatly dove-tailing to create opportunities for wars, alliances, trade etc.

Instead we get an incoherent universe with all the logic of an Alice in Wonderland scenario and nobody in-game or apparently at management level has any clue where EU is going or will end up.

Bah! I'm just going for a lie down now. :wise:

Awww ... sorry Kev ... but it was kinda relevant? I know what you mean though, and I knew that David's comment in the magazine article would stir up a few people, but it was what he gave me to share with the community. I agree with you though, that we do have an incoherent universe to a certain degree, but I'm banking on being able to go to a couple of planets that have coherent content and storyline (Arkadia and Cyrene), and from everything I know to date, these are two planets that are going to be worth waiting for.

I love that Arkadia releases a storyline episode every week (I believe), as well as engages the community to submit their ideas, and ... Ed Robles from Cyrene frequently interacts with us elsewhere to keep us updated. I feel confident that we will be able to inhabit a planet that has it together, and we can make choices with our PED card to support the planet partners who get it.

I hope you get some rest ... I'm headed that way myself soon. :)

I don't think it will matter much who the owner is, but how much cash the owner can invest. What FPC need are more capital to invest in some promotion and a bigger development teams. They need to speed things up and increase the player base.

For players it could be one advtantage if it was CEE:

If they integrate it with calypso it could mean a brand new area we can go to without giving 80 PED to hangar owners :yay:

I don't think so Hon ... and I wouldn't get too excited about that ... I think there will still be separate planets for sure, and I also think there will be a transport fee to get to them, just like ROCKtropia and Next Island, which were both developed by ND Studios.

Well, that is exactly the point here - it's not like we have a choice:
All the shit is invading calypso already, HoFs on Pirate Skeletons, someone discovered Pina Colada Cocktail, Orgasmatron Axes in auctions...

I would LOVE to not go there, but those planets are coming to my place now...

I'm one of those who thinks that announcements of globals and hofs should be planet-specific only, and not announced on someone else's planet. Each planet should have its own self-contained environment, from auction to blueprints etc., and build their own economy. It is my understanding that planet partners create their own blueprints, as well as write their own quests, so why weren't these available with RT when launched in April, as well as NI when soft-launched on the 8th? They're advertised to the media as being part of the planet environment, with the impression it's all available.

[sarcasm on]Oh wait ... other things have been advertised to the media as being available and aren't either, sorry ... just a continuing pattern I guess.[/sarcasm off]

I'm looking forward to other planet partners stepping up to the plate and showing us how it's done. :)

And yes, I do have faith that they will.

my post is so off topic (not saying yours was)... but seriously this is how it should be! hopefully how it will be.

who bought fpc? dunno can't wait to find out.

I see great potential if SEE is able to bring in some of the creative talent associated with the Michael Jackson organization and Universal Studios. Will Martin Biallas be able to attract the financial backers needed to add more staff and talent to FPC? Time will tell.

Agreed. It's a mess right now. Imagine how great Calypso could be if all the effort that's been wasted on other planets had been put into Calypso, and some of the investment that's gone into the same put into marketing instead.

The problem is for me it's now pretty much impossible to suspend disbelief. Nothing feels remotely believable. And as far as I can see the new planets so far add nothing in terms of gameplay, they're the same game with different eye candy. In terms of attracting a new market, take a look at how CCP are going for the console market with a new MMO set in the Eve Universe. Totally new gameplay, completely new appeal, no loss of coherence whatsoever.

One of the planet partners has to come up with something truely different, and planets need to be much more separate from each other. Then it could work. Otherwise the whole planet platform is just going to be the most over-developed expansion pack ever made.

Agreed, this would make things better.

Maybe there should be the option to switch other planets globals off, with the default for new players set as globals only for the current planet's globals visible.

I agree to this too. Just think of the mess if there are 6-7 planets out there.... Gonna be more or less
impossible to see chat due to all globals all over the universe. ;)

OK I have read entire thread and I think I know who. But is there a 5K Ped prize for the one who guesses correctly?

Sir Richard Brandson

Hey its worth a shot:laugh:

Very interesting (and funny) responses. :)

Interesting that in over 100 posts no one from FPC has been tempted to comment. Thank you Mindstar9 for revealing your intuition. We shall see if you're right some day.

MA cud alter "read global" filter.

But MA and FPC do not care..

I hope we will be able finaly to have chat chanel clear and free of all globals and hofs spam.

Considering you're no newbie I assume you know you can turn off the global channel from showing, if you so wish. :)

FPC and MA no longer have to answer to the players. It became clear after the tiering change that they have no interest in responding to controversy on the forums.

Perhaps Linden Labs wouldn't be so bad. Sure, their well-known virtual universe is no longer the flavour of the month any more but it was successful for a while. If they can promote Calypso as they did Second Life then that's not a bad thing, and if the other planets get residual business as a result then great.

That said, they can keep their porn and men in green macks.

its unlikely, they were letting developers go and last I heard was Microsoft had put a bid in to buy them.
