AT-every-F*n-day

But with the ATH do players keep peds in game or withdraw, I personally would leave some in game but definitely take some out. An ATH could be more of a drain on peds then 10 people sharing the ATH, a 1k ped HOF would be more likely kept in game.

yeah, i would also rather see more globals and smaller Hofs say around 200-600.

Just have an ATH high like every month. Make it rare !

Discussion of ATH in general aside, do you feel like they happen too often lately?

Let's say EU has been running for 6 years (it's longer but there are bigger mobs, mining amps, etc, now that mean it's unlikely many loots before that time remain in the ATH list - also the list used to be only 25 long back then).

So there's about 2100 days in EU's ATH history and 100 items on each list. So nowadays, without taking the maths too seriously, an ATH in each table about once every 2100 / 100 = 21 days seems reasonable to me. Including mining, hunting and crafting that's one ATH a week. But there's bigger mobs, mining amps, people crafting big amps, etc, than there used to be. So I'd expect it to be higher than once a week.

The clustering of rare events doesn't mean they are suddenly more common - what is the average number of ATH's per month for the last few years?

I look at the HOF board most days, and it seemed like we had been going through a relative dry spell on ATH's for while, prior to the recent rush. The thing is, we are talking about a very small number (and percentage) of loot events, so it is particularly hard to draw any meaningful conclusions from them. ATH's happen, and will continue to happen - they will also continue to be extremely rare.

Watching the tracker seems to affect people's perceptions more than anything else. Not watching it works for me.

Yes, good call. I didn't consider looking at it like that. It could still be in line with the yearly "average."
Best advise is just to not look and play
:)

I can, its real easy.

have 93k ATH not jealous
dont have 93k ATH a tad jealous.

Did your dad also tell you the ice cream man only rings his bell or plays music when he has no more icecream left? :)

That's where the being a smart ass came in. I was poking fun at the common mistake of using the word jealous to describe being envious.

Jealous;
• fiercely protective or vigilant of one's rights or possessions
Envy
a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions, qualities, or luck

So basically if your jealous it because you have something and you think someone else envy's it. Okay done being an off topic smart ass now :)

Ahh now that you point it out i see what you mean... but maybe now you need to look up the word "fun" :)

My Chinese neighbors middle name?

Just curious...where did you get that definition? Looked up "jealous" on both Dictionary.com and Miriam-Webster.com and they both define it closely to envious. Thesaurus.com also lists "envious" as a synonym for "jealous."

With the HP to No Loot ratio that Leviathan have they are going to hit big, especially with as many people as are hunting them.

narfi

that still does not represent a balance though either.

The definitions on dictionary.com feel to me more like definitions of envy. Sure, jealous kinda fits too, but only through common usage. To be honest though, I tend to think once something has been in common usage for long enough it becomes part of language. So whether it's right or wrong is to some extent opinion.

But jealousy I think of as referring to things/people you perceive, rightly or wrongly, as being yours (e.g. you're uncomfortable because some guy is talking to your girlfriend, or you're annoyed someone got the promotion you thought you deserved) whereas envy refers to things/people you perceive as not being yours (e.g. you wish you had a girlfriend as hot as your mate's, you wish your job was as good as your brother's).

According to the Oxford English Dictionary, however, the meaning of jealous in the expression jealous God is "having a love which will tolerate no unfaithfulness or defection in the beloved object."

Blast it!! Large sums of money being handed out more often!!
I hate that!!

hof today

Check out the board today:

47k Force Nexus
90k Level 5 Amp

2 in one day (which i have actually always seen happen a lot)
but I recall an ATH just a few days ago as well.

Its the win all or nothing model thats been in place since i started. I don't think i like it either. Most people would want a reasonable tt return always and not big hof. I think the big hofs are what keeps some people logging in though tbh but many probably don't log in because of big hofs as well.

Would you be complaining if it was you that got an ATH?

Or if you did get one, how would you feel coming to the forum and finding folks complaining about it?

If there is no one in a forest and a tree falls does it make a noise?

If there is no one in a forest and a tree falls does it make a noise?

Well yes, just because people aren't around to witness an event does not mean it didn't happen.

And yes Narfi, the Pope wears a funny hat :)

Look it in terms of expenses for each player. What payout % is Mindark using ? Each processed transaction is subject to a % processing fee, eg placing 1 ped into the loot pool would tax 5% of its value, therefore allowing 95% of the original value to be placed back into the system ie 0.95 ped.

This system has to payout 95% (just as an example) of deposits made over a set period eg 1 day. MA is not in control of this, players are. Players also control markup and how often / which resources make it to market.

I do not see how this is the platform provider's problem. B1tching about it is like trying to get information on how a casino works. Good luck.

The biggest problem is that we are basing the value of an item on it's raw ped value not on how useful the item is.

Actually, Corey...

If no one (living creature) is there when the tree falls, there is no noise (sound). :)

Of course, we're drifting off topic...

Or are we? :wise:

If no one (living creature) is there when the tree falls, there is no noise (sound).

Well, if you define sound to be the waves of pressure that can be 'heard' by a living creature, then sure there is sound even if there's no-one there to hear it. I'd say pressure waves is the standard definition of sound. If instead you say sound is the thing we perceive through the process of hearing, then OK, there's no sound if there's no living thing there to hear.

well

Well, 7 days later we have a 98k Levi
number 8 ATH

Yep. Gz to all of them. :yay:

Only 4 ATH in 2 days, perfectly normal.

So tell me again, why did the tree in the forest fall?

I just hope my ATH is soon so I can buy my angel armor and UL R150. Ok now I woke up :(

my main point was the frequency of ATHs lately. A few a week? A handful a month? Makes them less "special"

The perfect frequency imho would be an ATH every 3 hours or so in each profession. Then I'd have more chance of grabbing one.

So tell me again, why did the tree in the forest fall?

That's simple the tree died of misery it could not take the whining anymore. This was a very special tree it liked to read pcf as it was a fan of EU. Rest in peace poor tree.
